History shows he freaked out, spent 15 secs in Porcinis, and let in the whores for his players. It happened there. It could well have happened in Lexington.
I don't operate in the land of "could well have happened." In that land, Cal could teach a real offense for once in his life. I am not holding my breath waiting for that to happen. I am looking at what did happen while RP was at UK. When considering what actually happened, he proved to be a much better coach than Cal.

But Cool Hand Lute owned him

Just a bizarre post. If the worst you can say about Rick’s coaching here is that he lost his last game in OT in the National Championship…maybe sit this one out.
You are correct that it is bizarre but consider the source. It is about what's expected from anyone defending CCC.

A game he could have won by 15 if he played DA

The age was 70 Coach Hall had no part in the campaign
I stand corrected on the age but my point was Rupp wasn’t gracious towards Joe B because HE thought Joe B had taken HIS job. Not that Joe B had any part in Rupp’s forced retirement.
I think much of Joe B’s graciousness towards the coaches who followed him was because he remembered how he had been treated by Rupp and much of Rupp’s old guard.

And had DA re-injured himself in that game he never would have forgiven himself.
My niece cheered for UK at that same time and suffered the same injury the same week DA was injured. The surgery DA had using a cadaver ligament was new at the time and nobody really knew how long it would take to heal. The traditional procedure which my niece had took nearly a year to completely heal. Not even Dr Anderson who performed the procedure on DA was surprised how quickly DA appeared to recover.

He was practicing or at least it was reported he was.

Players often practice and aren't played in a game after an injury. But regardless, the coach made the call that he felt was for the best and I think we need to accept that. Losing that game was not as bad as DA losing the rest of his career.

So, what does that mean he was practicing? You seem so naive at times. I guess this explains why you think Cal is a great coach. Practicing doesn't tell you what he was doing and the degree at which he was doing it. There are various levels of practice even for those who are recovering from injury. It doesn't mean the player is capable of full contact participation.

Cal coaches a NBA farm team, so he doesn’t qualify in a discussion about college BB HCs.

Now that we have removed the slag from the population of present and past employees charged with winning games and championships as head BB coach at UK, my lifetime list is Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Tubby, Sutton and BCG bringing up the rear.

GBB!

If you are going to remove Cal, then you HAVE to remove Sutton, who ran a trash program, got us put on probation and then ran off without taking any responsibility. I know a lot of posters hate Cal but I have 10 times the hatred for Sutton. The man is pure trash.

I have to shake my head at the purported “love for Joe B Hal”l while was the UK coach. Had message boards and social media been around back then, he would have been ripped unmercifully. As it was he was ripped every night on talk radio lead by former Lafayette coach Jock Sutherland. The press despised Joe B as did a majority of the fans who wanted a more glib and nationally popular coach.

The reality is all coaches got ripped while they coached including Rupp especially in his later years. Pitino was much appreciated but later hated when he went to Louisville.

I am an outsider (Kansas fan) but I am curious to find out the perception of the past coaches at UK? Your fanbase is very demanding and I would assume that only Rupp is viewed as a legend. Please rank in order the most loved coaches post Rupp. Doesn't have to be most successful.
Joe B Hall
Eddie Sutton
Rick Pitino
Billy Gillespie
Tubby Smith
John Calipari
From what I have heard Pitino would be number 1 if he hadn't gone to Louisville. Possibly Sutton if the package hadn't happened?
Rupp
Rick
Tubby
Joe

Tier One: Joe Hall
Two: Tubby Smith, John Calipari
Three: Rick Pitino
Four: Eddie Sutton
Five: BCG
Rick would be tier 2 if not for the Louisville traitor tenure and flipping off the Rupp fans. It's as though some on here have no memory past the 90s.
How anyone can place Pimptino above Hall, Tubby or Cal is beyond me.

I would personally put Sutton below Billy G. Billy G was an idiot. Sutton was a scumbag.
