I am an outsider (Kansas fan) but I am curious to find out the perception of the past coaches at UK? Your fanbase is very demanding and I would assume that only Rupp is viewed as a legend. Please rank in order the most loved coaches post Rupp. Doesn't have to be most successful.
Joe B Hall
Eddie Sutton
Rick Pitino
Billy Gillespie
Tubby Smith
John Calipari
From what I have heard Pitino would be number 1 if he hadn't gone to Louisville. Possibly Sutton if the package hadn't happened?

Internet amplifies the idiocy. You know that, or should. Most UK fans don't act like bed-wetting snowflakes but the one's that do make the rest of the fanbase look like idiots.

But I will criticize Cal when it’s warranted. I think last night was BS and Cal needs to change. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for at least an elite 8 or final four this year and anything short of that, I’m ready to for a change. Whether that is for the better or worse.

After Rupp? Here’s my ranking:

#1. is Joe B. It was an almost
Impossible task to follow coach Rupp, yet coach Hall managed to win an NCAA title, reach another title game (which he only lost because it was John Wooden’s last ever game), and another final four. Plus he was a local guy (Cynthiana, KY) whose passion for the University and state was unrivaled. There’s a reason why there’s a statue of Joe B. Outside the Craft center. Next to Bill Keightly and Cawood Ledford, he’s probably the most beloved Wildcat ever.

#2. is Pitino because he not only rescued us from purgatory, but did so in an extremely exciting, extremely dominating fashion. He would easily be #1 if he had stayed.

#3. is Cal, simply because you can’t argue with the banners that he’s hung. But the further the program falls under his watch, he is in danger of losing this spot to Tubby. That said, if he can pull a rabbit out of his hat this year or next, he could vault to #1 just based purely on accomplishments (not character).

#4. is Tubby. Dude was all class, brought us a title, and made it to the Elite 8 three other times but just could never get over the hump, which is why he’s #4. But he never had anything even close to a losing season, and never failed to make the NCAA tournament. He could also coach rings around Cal, and his players were tough and played as a unit, not a ragtag band of mercenaries.

You started off well, but by the time you finished with #2, you must have had one too many egg nogs, but it is the season. Lol. I needed a few while watching the game.

Bill Self - look at all he has gotten away with!! Systemic corruption in recruiting and officiating (Home Court advantage so great that even commentators joke about it during games). DUI's, Domestic Violence etc...

Oh wait - you said UK's favorite. Not KU's. I would think BS would be an easy pick for you.

Hall - classy guy.

Below is my list which followed Rupp. 1978 is my first recollection of Bball so I don’t recall anything to do with Rupp from a personal observation. Below list also just takes into account their time at UK only.

Pitino
Hall
Tubby/cal (dead heat for me here)- both killed the joy of UK basketball during their tenure. Both won a title so keeps them above the two below.
Sutton
Gillespie - just the worst fit arguably in all of sports.

I agree with you about Tubby/cal. The main difference is that one of them was about as respectful as one could be as a coach and the other is just the opposite.

Don't love any of them. They are just some coach of a team that entertains Me

Pitino won the most so I guess him. I'm all about results. Then I'd go calipari and then Smith and then G. I'm not old enough for Joe B.

You putting Cal ahead of Joe B surprises no one. Laughable. Cal is a carpetbagging used car salesman. Joe B Hall's entire adult life was about Kentucky basketball. Of all the posts you've had, this may be the worst and most outlandish
Joe B retired because of the way he was treated by fans. Can you imagine this board in 1984. Poor guy quit rather than deal with fans.

Literally has nothing to do with my point about you ranking Cal as more beloved than Joe B. I'd just like to hear your rational for that...

Ask the same question 10 years from now, after Cal has left, and the the number 1 will be Calipari.
I don't know. I can see this possibly playing out to where most fans would rank Cal down with Sutton. Depends on if he wants to do the job he's paid for and how graceful his exit is.

Putting Tubby ahead of RP is highly questionable. RP (the coach not the person) was the best coach UK has had since Rupp.

When pitino left he would have been number 1. Now most people have him at 3-5. When Hall left he was not as loved as you think. Time has changed how he is viewed by many fans.
