Talk about a tale of 2 halves, sheeesh. Wilmington is Wilmington and did there thing. Their biggest advantage was in the coaching category. Reents made halftime adjustments, Thorson...not so much. First half was very clean, 2nd half Morris did all they could to give the game away with penalties. Morris had multiple personal fouls that basically walked Wilmington down the field and on the last drive they'd get to the 1 and then have a false start, and then did it again.
Not sure what I think of the Morris defense. Tough to tell when you only have to defend against one pass play prior to the last possession, which was desperation. The only real sustained drive Wilmington had was aided by multiple Morris 15 yard penalties. I was impressed with Wilmington's defense and their tackling, very few broken tackles. Curran had some chunk plays but those were open holes where he wasn't touched until the 2nd level.
Varner is a solid QB for Morris, but not sure why they never attempted to get the mid range passing game going. He had a few nice deep balls, but everything else was attempted WR screen passes. Nothing across the middle or even just simple out routes.
Glad the Redskins got the win, but much work to do. Wilmo will win out until week 9 before the big showdown with CC. If they happen to lose that, I feel for the poor bastards that have to face a 7-2 Wildcat team in round 1.
