Against North Carolina in the Liberty bowl in 1977.
YES! Played on Dec. 19th. Before this game it was the 1962 Gotham Bowl played on Dec. 15th. Nice job.
Before that it was the 1969 Sun Bowl played on December 20th against Georgia.

Correct! Had split time with Tom Sorley before Sorley secured the starting gig. But that was not Sorley’s night, so TO made a call to the bullpen.
I remember very well the summer following the '76 season. Ferragamo was gone so there was a lively debate on who, Sorely or Garcia, was going to be the starting QB for the first game of '77 season. Well I believe Garcia got the nod. Ended up not mattering much. The Huskers lost to Warren Powers and Washington State. Ouch.
