How deep do problems run at UK?
Tucker: Pretty damn deep. Off to the program's worst start in almost 100 years, the Wildcats are in full-blown meltdown mode. None of the players wanted to speak to the media after Saturday's loss to North Carolina, so injured sophomore Keion Brooks did it. Not a great sign. And sources close to the program indicate Calipari is currently in a power struggle with multiple other key players on this roster.
With this oddball year and not getting the good side of being a CBB player as well, wouldn’t surprise me to see a couple guys opt out to start prepping for the draft or joining a g league team. I mean, they could sell it as the system plus COVId protocols and it’s safer to work out 1 on 1 w a trainer.
I heard 2 people express this same sentiment over the weekend.Yep.....Cal got woke. Let Brooks talk about Rupp and changing the name. Did the video. Letting politics into your program like this was a bad idea.
I don't want politics in my sports from any side or agenda. I just want to watch the game and my team and hope they win.
it alienated a part of the fanbase imo. Now, this season looks like a trainwreck. Cutting short pree conferences. Mocking fans. Players visibly upset on the sidelines. Now one has left, and more may come.
Cal is the face of the program. Face the music grown man.
I agree he’s next I’m guessing. You can tell by his body language and I’m guessing his posse is telling him “opt out asap cal is going to destroy your potential lottery night”.I can see Clarke calling it quits. He clearly looks like he doesn’t care at times.
The ceiling would be lower but I’m not sure that wouldn’t be a team I’d rather watch. If Clark and Boston leave we may have to do the “my team is on the floor” method when foul trouble hits
Clarke has had poor body language from game 1. He has some growing up to do.I agree he’s next I’m guessing. You can tell by his body language and I’m guessing his posse is telling him “opt out asap cal is going to destroy your potential lottery night”.
I agree with you 1000% After seeing Powell play at Auburn. How did we not sign him? Can shoot from 3 and was even running the point. The kid can play and Pearl loves him.I feel bad for my University's program not Cal. He was the coach and his staff, that offered these kids.
Taveion Hollingsworth is now a senior at Western Kentucky. He is/was definitely good enough to start for UK for 4 years...stabiity...no drama..think about it. Had a chance to bring in the kid from Belmont who would have lent stability and great sound fundamentals...can hit free throws and score. Had a chance to get Justin Powell and now he is starting and flourishing at Auburn...You know there are others. Has Cal had a stretch of bad luck, perhaps some of it brought on by himself, in kids leaving before they were ready...yes, but a mix of very solid D-1 kids from the state sure could have brought some stability that absolutely does not exist.
I agreePure speculation but it makes me think it’s one or both of Boston and Clarke plus a few more
I read a article about Justin Powell and how much Pearl loves him. Pearl said he loves gettlng players from Kentucky bc of good high school coaching and the players are sound fundamentally.Ky Bass will defend Cal to his grave. It's obvious he has not played much basketball. He thinks everyone is out to get Cal. He loves Cal more then UK, where most of us are just the opposite. There are a few others like him, but at this time, their smart enough to keep their thoughts to themselves, instead of getting into a Pi$$ing contest with fans who know basketball. When he told me on one post, that Kentucky is not producing good High School players, I knew he didn't know what he was talking about. He should go to the state tournament, or some high school games, where the kids give 100%, unlike the players at UK, PRESENT TIME PLAYERS.

Exactly!!! This is the University of Kentucky. Individual goals and accolades including draft position shouldn't even be discussed. Team First > Players First. Otherwise, everyone will have Individual motives. How can you not be high jacked occasionally when dealing with such young men? Sure, empower them but it has to be about TEAM.This is what happens when you have a ‘player run program’
Tucker is usually very much in the know on UK stuff....his other stuff is nauseating and insufferableTucker is usually pretty solid in his coverage of UK sports. He doesn’t usually say anything if it’s not from solid sources. I used to follow his stuff a lot but he kind of turned into Rex Chapman lite and I haven’t been paying as much attention. I’d say he knows something.
Sometimes it needs to happen. Don’t know if this is that situation or not, but sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you realize you need to change things. This may be that season. Or it might take a few more like this. Time will tell.
Cal is in quicksand and the more he struggles the faster he sinks. I really don't see him coming back from this. He can't get the players he needs to run things the way he wants to anymore. I don't think he can totally change and go back to coaching teams full of 3 or 4 year players this late in his career. He's an old dog and he isn't learning new tricks anymore.
What a stupid post. Where is a senior going to transfer to?
Yeah he did. The problem was 2015. Had he won 2015, everything would of been different.Didn't coach hall tell coach cal that 10 years was about the limit to coach UK before everything goes south?
Once again. Cal recruited beta and sissie players. When you see guys sulk and crying like girls, he’s recruiting weak players. Stop recruiting the queens and recruit the bulls.Agreed. All I really know is:
1. Winning cures a lot of problems
2. Losing creates big issues out of little ones and divides people
We're in a bit of a free fall right now. The PLAYERS are the ones that have to step up and solve it. Cal has won tons of games, he didn't just suddenly forget how to coach this year. But this club, with 20 new faces, isn't buying into what they need to do.
I'm hoping for a team meeting, maybe a sign of unity (how 'bout some haircuts guys?), and winning some games to get a new attitude for all concerned. Including the fans.
Wait. You’re telling me the “ACAB” and “socialism isn’t bad” generation has zero respect for authority and are entitled and expect everything easy?Monkey says “We have a bunch of kids that are soft, entitled, baby’s, and have no respect for authority“. I trained this generation to work for children’s services. Most of them resigned because they couldn’t handle all the confrontation with clients, which is a given in this field. They run back to mommy and daddy at the first sign of trouble. They have no sense of dedication to the job. They want everything handed to them. If they get a job and don’t like it after a couple of months they just leave, because they know mommy and daddy will take them back into their home and pay their bills. This is today’s kids. Some kids I trained were committed, hung around, and stuck with the job. Most are now managers and very successful. i don’t blame the kids, I blame the parents. When all is said and done it comes down to how children are parented. How’s your kids? Enough said.
Billy Gillespie says hello. When you allow the program’s legacy to be discarded for the sake of several highly questionable agendas, the end result should not be a surprise.
and still, there will be people defending this model.
Since you can’t read and lack general comprehension skills, have you mom explain the difference between players first and player run. This is what happens when you have a ‘player run program’
