The portal is for anyone.... Bunch was a walk on and he put his name in for football. It means if you’re a scholarship player, the university does not have to honor that scholarship anymore. If you’re a walk on, well then no harm really, cause you aren’t losing a scholarship anyway

I really thought Harris would have an opportunity with Hoiberg. I hope he sticks around. Most experienced player returning is Thor...

Can you tell the Mayor spent some time in the NBA as a coach and front office executive. He is not afraid to turn over the roster.

Meh. Roby was the only player with eligibility that I really wanted to see come back. Harris and this other cat aren't big losses.
Agreed, thank god Thor stuck around. (Yawn). I have a feeling there looking good on a few other transfers .

Been nice having at least Amir Harris..

Just saying..

idk maybe anyone who committed to NU to play hoops is actually bad at hoops, because if they were good they'd go somewhere good?

we'll see where they land, and I wish them luck, but I suspect this is the last we hear of any of these transfers.

adios!

I don't think that potentially not having a single returning scholarship player is a good thing. We're going to have a lot of growing pains next year. If a player doesn't transfer out on their own, I'm of the opinion that you should at least give the player a chance to show what they can do before showing them the door. They did commit to the university after all. Sure, some of these transfers may be better, but some may not be and some of the players we seem to be going after have transferred multiple times already, which indicates they may cause more problems then they are worth. I just hope that football doesn't turn into the shitshow college basketball has become with all the transfers.

Im sure it would be nice to keep all of Tim's guys but at the end of the day Hoiberg is getting paid top money to build a consistent winner. He has to have full autonomy to get that done. Harris cant shoot a lick and Davis has a slew of injury issues and also cant shoot. If you cant shoot Hoiberg cant play you in his system. The whole offense falls apart.

I really liked what I saw from Harris on D and offense at the rim late in the year. I thought he would be a guy who could work for us and hoped he had stayed. That said, the knee injury made him a wild card for this fall. Who knows about Davis. I'm sure Fred has seen him work out and decided we've already recruited over him. Hopefully Fred can pull a couple of rabbits out of his hat because if he doesn't it's going to be tough to field a competitive team with what we have now. I don't care how fast you play or how you shoot 3s, you have to have SOMEBODY who can play in the paint to some degree. He HAS to find a couple of bigger bodied guys. They don't have to be 7 footers. 6-7 to 6-9 with some strength would work.

Agreed. We need a post presence, It's a major bummer we lost out on Jayce Johnson, he was our top target and he went with Marquette. There aren't any other 7 Footers out on the market now that he's gone. Blackshear Jr. from Va Tech would be a huge get. Although I don't know if we are in his plans. As it stands right now it looks like we've got Cheathem, Kavas, Green, and Mack that are guys that can actually play meaningful minutes as all signs are pointing to Roby taking his chances with the NBA. Sounds like they like how Thor plays and they think he can be a spot minute guy. We need at least 4, probably more instant contributors. They must feel good with where they stand on some targets because I doubt Fred would shoo away a guy like Harris if he didn't feel he had someone better to replace him with. But priority number 1 is get a big man ASAP.

Arop and Roby are the only guys on our roster right now who are listed as forwards. Arop is 6-6 and not real stout. Cheathem and Kavas are both I think 6-8 but listed at guard.

Shamiel Stevenson visited today he's a 6'6" 245 pound forward with a 40 inch vertical and a 6'11" wingspan. He could be a match up nightmare for a lot of posts in the B1G. Can play as a big wing or undersized 4.

Good scorer and an upgrade from Harris, but we still need a couple bigs to rebound against the B1G power forwards!

It will be really interesting to see how the roster is finalized. I'm not sure Hoiberg is as focused on next year as we are. He may be okay with one ugly season if it means being able to take sit-out transfers that help the following 2-3 seasons. I'm guessing he'll find a big body or two, but it's unrealistic to hope for the type of post players next season that are comparable to what most other BIG teams have.

Does he have immediate eligibility
His first season he played for Pitt and he averaged about 10 pts/gm, then they changed coaches. The next season he was barely seeing any playing time so he transferred to Nevada at Winter Semester Break. Nevada's coach Musselman was hired by Arkansas after this season so he decided to transfer again. He has already sat out 1 semester and there is a decent chance he could get a waiver because of coaching changes from the NCAA so he only has to sit out 1 more semester which would make him eligible the 2nd semester next season. Would be a nice addition to our team. GBF

He will be eligible second semester. The waiver we'll seek is to make him eligible at the beginning of the season.
