There must be some behind the scenes scandal that eventually will come out. They wouldn't fire him at this time unless it were for a scandal.
Moos issued a statement claiming he is retiring. Sounds like a face saving move however unless he's got a sudden health issue. Previously Moos had vowed to stay in place until the end of his contract in 2022.

The timing seems appropriate. Summer session so not a lot of sports going on. End of school fiscal year. But yeah, it seems like there is something more than just a simple retirement going on.
Will be interesting if the new hire is from the Husker "family" (Stewart/Alberts) or from outside.

Any chance John Cook would move up to the AD job?
That would be a very good choice. He is, at least, a face of Nebraska success.
Moos hired Frost and Hoiberg which 99% of the fanbase wanted. He then hit it out of the park with the Bolt hire....he then proceeds to get the funds needed to build the best football facility in America.

People still ***** and complain.
Well, if the articles I read are true, he wasn't responsible for the fund raising. It was done by others on the staff.

He wasn't attending events and hired additional people within the department to make sure some things got done. He definitely was not front and center on a lot of things.

I heard him say he wanted to stay long enough till the new Athletic facility were finished being built..

Welp.... Moos accomplished what he was hired to do. Maybe at his age he just got worn down..... maybe he is being asked to make changes he is unwilling to make..... maybe he slept with a booster wife. Who knows

Frost is in charge of the place right? the fb coach is way more important than the AD

Really odd time for this to happen with the 155 million dollar football facilities just getting under way. He either got offered a better gig or hopefully there is not some kind of scandal brewing. We are a B1G Ten U after all!
Yeah I really hope in a year there aren’t any court documents that say, “rhythmic slapping was heard coming from the shower”.

I don't care if the next AD has Nebraska ties or not, I want to see a PROVEN POWER 5 A.D. come here. The whole, "We need a Nebraska guy" is total BS. If you want to unify Husker Nation, START WINNING!! Nothing builds unity like winning.

I couldn't agree more. We need a home run here, this Nebraska guy thing hasn't worked out too well. We need a legit BIG 10 or SEC top shelf hire. Open the wallet.
I do have to say I am shocked. The guy just hired new swim, golf and diving coaches. I think, have no knowledge, there has to be something like a personal conduct issue. I actually don't blame Moos for the football failures, he gave Scott absolutely everything he could to succeed.

Yes, but when asked do people ever say they're going to leave before their contact is up even if they know they are?

I have no problem with Moos. NU could have done a heck of a lot worse. I had experience managing guy's who retired to do something they dreamed of, like travel or golf, did that for a year or two, got bored and decided to return to they workforce. They usually did OK, but the fire wasn't there and some of them had their work trail off. Then after a couple years they realized it wasn't the travel, golf, or work that was boring, they were just boring people to start with and they quit. I look at Moos like one of those guys, Was an AD, retired to ranch, got bored, came to NU, but the fire wasn't there so he didn't attend a lot of games, sometimes appeared disinterested, spent a lot of time in Washington, etc. Let's hope our next AD isn't a guy looking for "one more big adventure".

They usually are silent and don't proclaim they're staying until the end of 2022. And usually in a planned retirement there is a transition period, not an abrupt departure in a few days. Besides IF he stayed through the end of his contract, Moos was supposed to receive over $1 million in retention bonus. Now maybe they negotiated to give him some or all of the retention bonus to get him to leave quietly.

Leaving in a month? Wow, unless it is health-related folks at that level don’t just up and leave in a month. I doubt we will ever know what happened, but this is about the same deal as the Chancellor or NU President announcing he is leaving in a month — and that would never happen absent a health issue or major blowup.

Moos made three of the best hires he possibly could. There is still plenty of time but its not his fault 2 of them have not held up to their hype. Basketball looks good on paper though.
Basketball will still come through. ...can't wait to see what the next 2-3 years bring. ...definitely pointed in the right direction, in my view.

^^^^ This is exactly my thoughts. SOMETHING has come up. Either health issue or"you can retire immediately or we're going to terminate your service".

You don't retire effective the end of the month which is in 5 days.

For his sake I hope it's not health related. For our sake I hope it's not scandal/sanctions related.

As Tru Husker mentioned moos was not an always seen face of the Huskers at events and was not spearheading the fundraising. That's his choice and I m fine with that. Maybe something the regents wanted to change. We're all throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks right??

Hope the search is successful and quick

How many times have we heard, "I'm planning on staying", "This is where I want to be", "I'm not going anywhere", etc.... just for that person to leave shortly after? This isn't something earth shattering or new just because Moos said he'll stay through his contract.

Believe what you want but there are too many signs for me to believe it was an unforced retirement.

It might be as simple as him being asked to do more or be seen more and him just not wanting to do more.

If that happens the entire rest of the conference will say "Welcome to the BIG -- finally! What took you guys so long?"

He's leaving in about a week.

Or maybe he just decided to retire. Why do so many people in this country want to believe that everything is a conspiracy theory???

I mean, that could be it. Is the end of the fiscal year June 30?.

Not sure I agree with that, but we know nothing at this point. Im wondering if there is a health concern in his family. He may not want to state that yet.

There's no conspiracy involved. It's likely just an incident of some misbehavior that would put the University in a bad light. That's not conspiracy, that's job performance related.
