To me he's the difference between a sweet 16 and a final 4 with a championship possibility.
Couldn't agree more. W/O I think the ceiling is probably S16 and middle-ish 1/3 of the SEC. With and I think the ceiling is exactly what you said. He just takes the least productive player off the floor and replaces with probably the most productive player. That's a huge jump.

Yup. Another sweet 16 if he isnt on the roster is most likely outcome. And no sec regular season or tourney title either. Some feel that deserves a year 4. I dont get that logic.

Huge jump like you said. Without Mitchell the roster imo is bland. Another good team that loses to many games and ends up a nine seed in the SEC tournament. With Mitchell I think we are one of the better teams in the country that don't lose those close games.

Experience on top of the talent. Mitchell is a big deal this year for Pope and I'd damn near be ok with him sitting out half the season if that means Mitchell plays. I don't care about all the integrity stuff when it comes to stuff that doesn't have anything to do with integrity...like in no way am I mad at lsu or Lane kiffin.

Look at college sports and y'all want to act like there is some integrity line we are crossing...I hope UK and LSU give the SEC and NCAA the bird. We've been nice long enough. That's why UK is always the one that seems to get fcked because we are always playing puussyy. All those conspiracy theories are true because we are a school that never fights back.

This seems like a swipe at LSU and Kiffin and Mitchell is collateral damage. I don’t expect UK to fight the conference over this.
One of two things must happen for Mitchell to play for us:
1) Kentucky makes a plea to the conference and Mitchell is allowed to play. If that plea is denied, I don’t think we make an appeal.
2) we are the benefit of an aggressive action from LSU, their players are allowed to play and by extension, Mitchell is eligible.

Were you around when “Sosa” now “Doodee” said he was taking his kid to a tee ball or baseball game and then wanted to meet a guy he was arguing with (not me but I was watching the meltdown) amd said he was going to beat his head into the concrete? It was an anger meltdown of unprecedented proportions.
Lmao I’m pretty sure, I know I’ve been around for minimum of 3 address drops, him threatening with a gun, and a minimum of 30+ slurs

what is this guy I’m confused, talks like a 25 year old high school bully but he has a kid?

I thought I heard he said he was sick and didn’t care anymore, which is sad so I hope DudahUK makes a full recovery.

I had to put the guy on ignore for my own sanity and advise you do the same. Here’s the actual data for you to make your own conclusions for D1 men’s basketball transfers. Remember this is the first year that this could even be a topic or thought.

2754 entered the portal spring of 25
2605 entered the portal spring of 26

Womens basketball also saw a drop this year. So yes there were some players that entered illogically(mainly due to having absolutely no pro prospects) but obviously there wasn’t some huge surge of players doing it.

Also people need to stop lumping Aberdeen into this conversation. He had a specific argument for his freshman season not counting against his eligibility thus this upcoming year being his senior year. That’s why he entered and committed during normal timing.

The 5th year guys who entered the portal when they were supposed to, showed that accomplished absolutely nothing as none(or very few) of them committed to play at a school before they were granted eligibility through one of the court cases.
I have strongly considered it.

In my opinion:

Most likely COA: UK goes the waiver/exception route and argues Mitchell is a unique Class of 2022/TRO case. Batt probably tries to solve it administratively without making this UK vs. the SEC.

Next most likely COA: Mitchell’s legal team goes back to court and asks for clarification or broader relief. UK stays behind the formation and lets the judge clear the obstacle instead of charging it head-on.

Another plausible COA: LSU or somebody else drives the tank through the wall first. If they get a broader ruling, UK just walks through the breach with Mitchell and argues the SEC can’t treat him differently.

Most dangerous COA: UK says screw it, plays Mitchell, and dares Sankey to impose the penalties. That would be the direct-fire option. Entertaining as hell, but probably the one we want to avoid unless every other route is closed.

Mark Mitchell the whole season and Pope half the season? Or Pope all season and Mark Mitchell for none of the season? Yeah, that's an easy answer. Lol

Lots of seniors entered the portal in anticipation of a 5-for-5 eligibility fight. Mitchell has only himself to blame for that.

UK voted for this rule in the SEC. They empowered Sankey to enforce it. They just recommitted their support for Sankey to enforce it.

Mitchell's best option now is go to a non SEC school. He's got his TRO. He's temporarily eligible. He can't return to Mizzou bc they are full. He's not going to play at UK without UK suffering the penalties outlined in the SEC memo.
Why don't you get your tar heel *** off our site?

One thing I have learned from all of this: I was automatically entered into the NBA draft when I graduated so even though it's many years later there's a chance that I might still see my name on draft night.

The SEC is allowed to make their own rules and enforce their rules. Since their rules don't prevent Mark from going to a couple hundred other schools, it's likely not going to qualify for an Anti-Trust hail Mary by a lawyer.

This is totally different than the NCAA which can make a guy ineligible from all the D1 schools, and who just passed a new rule that seems to punitively impact Mark's specific class. There are legitimate grounds to believe the NCAA will ultimately lose their fights against Mark's class. It just might take months.
But all the conferences coming together at the 11th hour and forming their own rules together would probably cause antitrust problems.

It's not as if you can't transfer w/in the SEC, we have three players who transferred to other schools. But this guy, who didn't know he would have eligibility, can't play for us because it's August and not May? Asinine.

Did the rule go into effect before Mitchell committed to UK or after? If it was after, then there are now 2 rulings after the fact that will screw him out of playing for the team he wants to play for. These rules should have been announced PRIOR to the portal opening and PRIOR to the 2022 class believing they had no eligibility thus not entering the portal.
The SEC transfer rule has been in place for several years.

I have the gut feeling that UK will abide with whatever decision is made. I don’t think they put up a fight against the SEC. Who knows?

Oh crap not thousands of players that no longer had eligibility that is not true at all
Over 180,000 D1 athletes compete every year in the NCAA. Yes it is true, thousands of seniors entered their respective sports' transfer portals last spring. Their agents advised them to. That's the importance of having a good agent.

I still feel like Mitchell playing for UK is better than a coin flip. Monday's court proceeding will only be step 2 in what will eventually be a 3 step process. Mitchell needs the judge to extend the injunction to prevent the SEC from using their intraconference rule. Then Mitchell's camp needs the court to deny the inevitable appeal that the SEC will throw back at Mitchell's lawyers.

It could be a while until we get final clarity. If Mitchell's team wins Monday, I'd bump up his chances to playing for Kentucky to 75% or greater.

None of this caught Kentucky, its lawyers, its coaches, or Mitchell's lawyers off guard. The goal post hasn't shifted. This was expected from the beginning, and knowing that, Kentucky still went ahead and swung for the fences anyway.

I respect that.

Sankeys new memo and what every president signed was that they would not take ghost transfers. Some schools were letting guys transfer in without going through the portal.
That’s what this new memo was designed to stop and each school agreed they would not allow someone to transfer in that didn’t portal.
Mitchells TRO put him in the portal. Sankeys only way to stop him is the inter conference transfer rule that says you must be in the April portal. It’s a technically. Mitchell is in, but didn’t do it in April. IMO Sankey won’t care it’s a technically and fight to the end to not allow him here. I’ve always believed Sankey loved Mitch because he could screw UK and still get his butt kissed by Mitch.

Based on the way fans on this board talk, it seems the monetary fine is more worrisome than Pope's suspension
Luckily that’s just the radical loons…… .1 percent of the overall fanbase…. Meaningless snot-nosed crybabies that never stop. Our worst fans literally stalk the internet to try to locate and expose total strangers and/ or threaten to beat them up. LOL! That’s actually .01 of the overall fanbase.

You’re absolutely right, but that’s the rule that’s been in place since 2023 and he had to know it. He just figured he was good enough to stay on an NBA roster. He should’ve gone ahead and entered the portal like so many other players that had exhausted their eligibility did, but he didn’t. Three of his teammates at Missouri did and even our own Denzel Aberdeen did duh!

The rule was clearly not implemented for this scenario. What advantage is he gaining here? It's not reasonable to stop him from playing on a technicality and allow others to play for opting in to something which had no advantage at the time.
