So the poor will get free healthcare. The middle class will pay more and the rich will pay the vast majority. That about sum it up?

Here is my problems with "Medicare for all" type of stuff spouted by politicians. It is mostly a populist line of crap that actually would not work well in our health system without some major changes which is not going to happen. It is something that sounds good but if you know a little about the industry, it isn't as good as it sounds.

Government goes to a Medicare for all, there is nothing to prevent for-profit healthcare providers and private insurance for those that don't want the government program. We will deepen the rift between the "have's and have nots" and I am not in favor of that.

We either need to go to a Single Payer Health care system or figure out a way to make the ACA work better. I think we are at a place where we could improve the ACA better (but it would take Medicaid expansion in all states) and it would include things that many people in the country do not like (tax increases on those that can afford it to help out the poor......or entitlement expansion).

My $.02

I could also support a "single payer" type for all.

Interesting. In my not fully educated mind on the subject, I believe it would work better than a medicare for all. But boy, I can't see the country is ready for that type of change. I would welcome it though.

I should have said I support a Universal healthcare type program.

I got a bill for $8k the other day because my 7 year old went into the ER to get stitches for tripping and busting his head open. The only reason I know this is because they made a mistake in not billing our insurance. I dont give a **** what tax bracket you are in that represents a broken system. Would have set me back let alone a working class family seeing that bill. Hospitals are not required to consult patients on cost...and rarely do. It was suggested to me that a plastic surgeon do the stitching since it was across his brow to minimize scaring. Which I obviously endorsed. Can't image a poor Dad walking into the ER scared that his kids visit for something so everyday could set his family finances into a death spiral. Come on, people. We sit here and blame the poor for being poor instead of doing the right thing and just fixing a system that is out of control. $8k for 10 stitches?

There is a reason it cost that much. It’s not as simple as saying it’s just some thread and needle.

Not under any circumstance should an ER visit to get stitches cost an insurer (let alone a family) $8k. Doctor was out of there in 5 minutes and I did half the work pinning him down. Wasn't like he was in there to get elective breast augmentation.

What should it cost?

Well you don't think it should cost $8k, so you must have an idea of what it should cost. Hell at least discuss why it should cost less.

There is little or no choice in ER situations especially when you are dealing with your kid. Not like you are making a decision as a consumer w/ options. If there were, and you had other regulated and viable options, that bill would be more in line with the service provided (IE not 1k per stitch).

What's the cost of education of the docs and nurses
What's the cost to deal with any potential legal/compliance issues
What's the cost to comply with all the regulatory statutes
Did you kid get any meds while there - what's the cost of those meds, but more specifically whats the cost associated with the doc ordering those meds until the time they actually are administered
Are you familiar with the cost of EMR systems (initial and maintenance)

Again more costs associated with 10 stitches than people know

That might have been the worst attempt of costing out a service I have ever seen.

right because none of those (and the list isn't exhaustive) has no bearing on the cost of care

Lol. Please educate me more on cost accounting.

You do know there is a term for what you are attempting to say. Right?

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying you don't have a clue how to understand a concept way over your head and your ******** is obvious.

When my mother passed away, I hired an attorney to handle some of the estate stuff. They billed the attorneys out at $300/hr, paralegals at $150/hr, and staff at $75/hr. That should be a relatively fair market rate for a hospital. I figure he was in there for a few hours, most of that time waiting. At that structure, you figure in the ballpark of $1k to $1.5k would be comparable.

It's an unfortunate by-product of the market we've allowed to be created, where Hospitals and Doctors have zero incentive to negotiate with the patient on costs. There is no doubt that part of the costs that go into a Hospital's bill are legitimate, but there's also no doubt that some of those costs are inflated.

Cost plus.... T&M... type of billing. It would be interesting to see...

Any system that relies on private insurance is unsustainable.

There isn't another western nation that replies on private insurance as much as we do.

Maybe your little buddy will understand this comment as it is dead on correct. But since your feelings are constantly hurt over being shown to be full of **** on some subjects as well, don't waste your time reading my comment.

I want chaos in the health industry. I want insurance only for catastrophic situations(read, hospitals), cash based co-ops, and help those US citizens who can't even afford that. If you have no method beyond the above... go home if you want care.

32.7 trillion over 10 years.......AOC..." you just pay for it"[pfftt]...and the funny thing is that the folks who are yelling the loudest for it are already rich enough to where it won't matter to them and won't affect them .......don't do as we do...do as we say

Impact yes. Exploit. Yes and another yes. I am not saying hospitals are solely to blame there is gross price inflation up and down the system— all placed ultimately on the backs of the consumer— mostly due to the indifference of people like me whose company carry the bulk of their healthcare. The only reason we as a country haven’t went the sensible route of Europe is because of the “socialism” stigma so many are worried to be labeled with. I’m a capitalist but also see the value in some basic social goods—with affordable healthcare for all ranking right there at the top.

Ever notice how hateful Bru gets when you smack his peepee a couple of times?

Even when you agree with him, he comes out thinking he's a swinging dick. Some people just can't have a natural, layman, conversation about anything.

back to the Medicare for All, discussion. Bernie Sanders bill that doesn't have much support eliminates private insurance. I don't know much about the details of that bill but Medicare as it stands, doesn't cover everything people need with their coverage. People have to buy Supplemental to make up the gaps. Is this the "tricky" way to say they are in favor of Single Payer Government health care system?

The country's citizens are not ready for Single Payer. The Insurance Industry is a very powerful lobby and no way in heck will a bill ever get through congress. There are so many other issues with Health care costs that need to be addressed before we ever get to a Socialistic style health care program, that I can't see it ever happening any time soon.

We need real life solutions to be proposed and discussed if we are ever going to move forward at all.
