He didn't want to just spend his remaining years fishing and drinking. He was an attention ***** and a Drama King. He loved attention.

Also, he wasn't randomly arrested for no reason. A lot of people lost a lot of money because of him. For some reason people believed he knew a lot about which crypto coins were going to go up in value so opinions he expressed publicly affected the price. So he'd say "Crypto Coin X is a great coin, it's going to go up" and unbeknownst to his audience he was getting paid to say it rather than just giving his honest opinion.

So a lot of people would buy based on what he said, which boosted the price, and then people bought at that higher price and then when the luster wore off the price would drop and the people that bought at that higher price would be out of luck. But McAfee would already been paid off and then moved on to some other crypto coin that he was hyping for money.

Unlike someone like Jeffrey Epstein, those in power had no reason to fear what secrets McAfee would reveal. McAfee wasn't important to powerful people. He was a guy that got rich from making virus software, sold the company and got rich, pissed it away and then spent his later years hyping his image as a crypto expert and ripping off non-powerful crypto investors in the process.

Until this happens he was bluffing.

"I've collected files on corruption in governments. For the first time, I'm naming names and specifics. I'll begin with a corrupt CIA agent and two Bahamian officials. Coming today. If I'm arrested or disappear, 31+ terabytes of incriminating data will be released to the press," McAfee tweeted on June 9, 2019.

Eleven days later, he added: "The instant I disappear the information is released. Those named would be crazy to kill me or collect me. They are simply praying I live forever. If it's released, revenge takes over and I'm dead."

I don't have an opinion as I know nothing about the guy. But his suicide does seem strange.

If I had a bunch of evidence to exonerate me I would make copies and give one to my lawyers. I would welcome the opportunity to defend myself in court. I would have sent a bunch of copies to independent media and MSM. He claims he had a dead man switch. If no real data ever comes out then we will know he was full of it. Time will tell. Personally I think he is jerking everyone off and playing on people's mistrust of the government.

I have warned people about crypto. Only invest what you can afford to lose. They put people in jail over the stock market also. However I will admit that has become more rare lately and has always been selective.
