I hope Maxey commits but stays in 2019. There is just no way a backcourt of Quade, Hagans, Quickley, Herro, Baker, & Maxey would work. Some of you saying “it doesn’t matter who starts, they will all play a ton” doesn’t make sense. There are a limited number of backcourt minutes in a game. Also, Cal tends to like to keep his best players on the court especially as the games get important.
Two guard spots for a 40 minute game is a total of 80 minutes. Quad was not happy with 26 minutes this year, so let’s say he drops to 25 minutes. That leaves 55 minutes. I can’t imagine two 5-Star recruits of Quickley and Hagans getting less that 20 minutes each. That leaves 15 minutes for Herro, Baker, and Maxey to share. Maybe Herro or Maxey play some SF, but then you have issues at playing time available at the 3/4/5.
I believe that Quad returning is a clear sign that at least one of Hagans/Maxey will not be on the 2018 squad. (I just hope that means they will be on the 2019 squad)
