I guess we just assume he remains on suspension since there has been no news.
I admire coaches integrity but it was a paintball gun. Seems like nobody would say coach is being soft if the kid was reinstated this Sunday. He's been punished enough by missing three games.

Agree?

I think his Court date is not until early November so nothing can happen ( unless settled out if court ?}
Really sucks because Melton and Rene would have made for a strong pair of CBs.

He shot people with a weapon and intent. It’s something that is happening with more frequency in places throughout the country and even happened in the last election. Shouldn’t normalize this type of behavior simply because it’s a paint pellet or he gives us a better chance to win. I’m sure he’s bummed and wishes he could take it back, but he committed a crime and should be held accountable.

Unfortunately this is in the legal system, and has been pointed out multiple times, paint ball guns fall under "guns", so there is little wiggle room.

My guess is he doesn't suit up again until the legal side has run its course.
Actually, paint ball guns are not legally "guns", but they are legally "weapons". A distinction of some importance.

Agree with second sentence.

None of us know the whole story. Schiano is usually very fair when it comes to discipline. If he feels Max hasnt done his punishment yet, I trust that

so bummed about this. Max looked so impactful in September of his true freshman year. Given that we are RU and the charges are pretty serious, I'll be thrilled if Max is back in September 2022

I think you will be, but it may indeed be 9/22.

Two guys from Oregon just shot a guy in the face with a paint ball gun earlier this year. They were back on the field after a 3 week suspension and their case is still tied up in the courts. So you're saying we should go with the 9 game suspension or entire season?

You assume too much if you believe “nobody” would say Schiano is being soft if he were to reinstate Melton this Sunday.

Help me out. What newspaper with a web site has the largest circulation in the state? I also seem to remember a group on campus that wants to replace football with ultimate frisbee. Had some number in their name.

Since both players are university students, I am sure there is a university process and procedure to deal with these type of incidents, would be interesting to know how the university's student conduct code would deal with a student in the same situation, would it be more lenient or more harsh. Not saying they wouldn't still end up in court but what would happen to a student prior to their court date are they still attending classes and living in university housing?

He will have to cop a plea and see if that would get him to play under probation of some kind.
But our justice system is so slow that this may not happen for a while.
Is he suspended from Rutgers or just Rutgers Football?

It's really all about precedent setting. First arrests for GS 2.0. Having to play someone who is not quite as good as Melton is way less important to the program than not having players scared sh!tless to do dumb stuff
I’d like to give this post multiple likes.

The part of the fan base that lives in over 55 communities never want to see him again. The part of the fan base that actually still has a pulse realizes this is just stupid

Maybe Ohio State is egging on other teams' players to do these things to increase their chances of victory?

You do realize that the prosecutors in Oregon cannot keep up with the skyrocketing real gun violence and murder rate, and ticky tack things like getting shot with a paint ball are probably being dismissed without charges so that they can handle more important cases? We are quite familiar with this as, still not a trace or hope of finding the thugs who murdered a cousin in Oregon back in February. The geniuses disbanded the violent crime unit for reasons you can look up.

The criminal charges are unresolved. Once those are closed, we can talk.
This is the reason Max isn't playing.
We can claim innocent till proven guilty or find a reason to say it was a little mistake, but we can't deny Max put himself in a position that couldn't be overlooked and acted upon by the RU HC.

Until the charges are settled in court or dropped the RU Coaches have to support the justice system and not allow Max to play.

As for the justice system, this thread should be about Max being suspended while waiting for his charges to be resolved, one way or another.
What we think about the law that caused the arrest is not the problem, Max broke a law and that's what his suspension is about.
If it's on the books, you obey it or pay the price.
Max's paying the price right now and might have more to pay if found guilty.
