Won’t be coming in this summer and probably won’t be playing this fall.

An academic redshirt might just be the best thing for him.
Be difficult not to play in games but it gives him time to get his priorities straightened out.

Starting to look that way. Especially since he was expelled from Trinity Christian.
Hope he can at least get on the right track and play somewhere. Sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they make changes for themselves.

I hate seeing this happen but it happens a lot, and to a lotof kids who arent high profile recruits but still could play somewhere.

Well. The staff is still in contact and say they have a plan to get him to graduate. According to an article I just read.

I just don't trust getting academic waiver.

Even if he still graduates, he won't have enough core classes to be eligible by NCAA standards. NU will have to apply for a waiver to the NCAA for him to enroll as a partial qualifier. This is similar to what the plan was for Blades last year.

And we all know how that turned out.

Good thing we let a fully qualified DT from our home state dangle in the wind until after signing day. The Ragin Cajuns will be laughing all the way to the bank. While Mr Washington is never to be heard from again

I don’t think MM was a scholarship availability issue. It was a talent issue.

If he enrolls in school this fall, he still counts against the 85.

It was sarcasm...if/when a recruit doesn’t make it for some reason...fans celebrate the new open scholarship. Just like the fan above talking about how he still helps our recruiting rankings. Winking

Hope the young man figures it out. If he isn't going to make it to Lincoln that hurts the team, he can play but if he doesn't figure out how to take care of his responsibilities, that is a much bigger issue.

Maurice isn’t make or break. Would be a great add, but we are already signing backs for next class.

Agree to an extent. No single recruit is a make or break "must get". Still... let's not act like this isn't a loss for us. He is a real talent and you need to stockpile that kind of talent in order to return to elite status. Look at our running back situation post-Ameer: suck. You can say all you want about Ozigbo, Wilbon, Newby, etc... but they simply were not and are not elite caliber running backs. Do we beat Miami in 2014 without Ameer? My guess is no. He was a difference maker and you need difference makers.

Maurice, by all accounts, is a difference maker. I hope he makes it onto the team someday.

Good luck to MM. As a Nebraska kid, may he prove many wrong and end up giving more effort and becoming a great player.

With that said, he had his own issues and too many red flags for my liking when some details about his effort, talent, and academics came out.

Trust in Frost. He obviously had his reasons for doing what he did with MM.

I believe Sean failed to mention that part in their article about this situation!

The article on this situation sounded positive and gave me the impression that he moved back to Cali to focus on academics and to qualify and that he has a great chance to receive an academic red-shirt this fall. Oops...

Like any Husker recruit, I hope he makes it here and eventually is a different maker.

Wilbon, Zig, Jaylin, Bell, plus Miles Jones as a Duck-R. Tyjon and JD can also play Duck-R. If we can't craft a decent running game from that talent, I doubt adding Washington would help.

Pretty sure he doesn't end up at NU. Sounds like a big time character issue, and NU is probably just being PC, but I bet he never sets foot on campus.

He was expelled from school with less than a week to go? This, if true, is not an academic question its a character question! Now before I or any of us take shots at him lets find out all the answers first.

But if he was expelled, it may affect the credits that transfer. In which case the character may have affected the academic status.

Yes, you are correct. I didn't explain my comment very well thats on me. IMO its one thing to have grade issues; its entirely another to have a charcter issue that would cause you to be expelled 1 week before the end of school knowing you have such a great future ahead of you. There are mistakes and then there are MISTAKES. Once again lets find out out the facts first. JMO

"While Washington, a four-star running back, spent most of his senior year at Trinity Christian High School in Cedar Hill, Texas, Trinity Christian coach Aveion Cason told the World-Herald that Washington was expelled and moved back to his home state of California.

“He got in trouble, and he was expelled,” said Cason, who declined to say why Washington was expelled, other than that it was for behavior and not academics. Washington did not immediately answer text messages, and his phone is not allowing calls.

Cason said Nebraska helped Washington get set up with another high school in California in order to graduate on time. HuskerOnline reported Tuesday that Nebraska will request an NCAA academic waiver for Washington so he can enroll at NU but not play as a freshman."
