Oh, and Rhule, when your team finally gets to "that" level, please don't **** the bed like Ryan Day and little Jimmy Rifkin just did. It's embarrassing. Everyone is laughing at the B1G.
So there is another problem. Getting into the playoffs and losing in the last second is considered a failure. I was pulling for tOSU and Michigan both.

I also remember when Tom couldn't beat OU and we went up against Miami, Florida State and others in bowl games and regularly were humbled. Eventually, we became a dominate team in the 90's.

A lot of teams would envy where Michigan and tOSU are right now, win or lose. If ever team who doesn't win it all is a loser, then we really do stink and will.for many years, no matter what improvement is made.

Sorry man being rational isn't accepted here.

I think a reasonable amount of time is showing clear progress (which admittedly is hard to define) should be shown by mid/end year 2. By the end of year 3 the team should be clear either way weather the staff will work or not. Year 4 they should be challenging for the B1G title, playing meaningful games in November, etc.

This go around are we going to be measuring progress in wins and losses or are we going to shovel a bunch of ******** once again and declare it progress so as to not hurt anyone’s feelings

I don’t care how it happens, if it happens next year or in 3 years, but I want to see a turnaround. Why does it have to be next year? Would love for it to be, but if it isn’t, do we fire Rhule? Let’s not take stupid pills.

This isn’t a 5 year project. But it isn’t a one year project either, like the OP says.

I have said repeatedly 6 wins is the Mendoza line next year - I don’t expect to be playoff bound next but less than 6 IMO - the staff underachieved

Chuck is hitting the bottle again.
And I am paying the price for it. After cleaning up my vomit, (First time I puked in 15 years) I received an email thanking me for my purchase of some supplement called " Ball refill ***** volumizer." ( I am not kidding) I dont remember ordering it and I don't know what it even is. I also lost 200 on the Michigan game. So hopefully I learned my lesson at least for a couple of weeks. I do like and support Matt Rhule though.

Absolute minimum is a bowl game
If TCU can go from 5 wins to playing for a national title - Rhule can go from 4 wins to 6 playing an easy schedule
Yes, assuming he can recruit the players with speed and strength. The past few years there was horrible talent for the most part.

It should not take Rhule 5 years to do anything but win a national title.

The University of Nebraska should be hiring coaches with track records for winning and punching above their weight. They would be wasting time, money, and energy trying to hire any other type of coach given their challenges to put a title contender on the field.

Rhule could be considered a good and worthy hire if by year two this team closes with a winning record and continues an upward trajectory in wins on the field sufficient to compete for conference titles.

The introduction of a limited playoff actually helped Nebraska's, and other teams as restricted by talent or reputation resources, chances of winning a national championship. -- The expansion of the playoffs increases those chances for Nebraska even further.

All those who crowed the BIG RED dead on the mountain tops in front of the cameras and in conversation or on message boards deserve to watch Nebraska become a champion over and over again in the new era.

And so do we.

I'm giving Rhule five years to get "his" players on the roster. Then I am giving him five more years to remove the cancer or stench or inferiority complex from the team. After that I am giving five more years to overcome having his hands tied by the AD/Chancellor/fans (whatever boogeyman du jour exists at that time). Then I am giving him five more years to overtime Big Ten bias, and five more years to overcome the recruiting disadvantages of using Adidias. By then the facilities will be outdated, so I am giving him five more years to overcome only having a 350,000 square foot facility instead of a 450,000 one. By his 25th year I expect at least nine wins though.

Uh… settle down Chucky. While most don’t disagree with your premise, two things should be noted:
1) No one is saying it should take 5 years to get good
2) Rhule hasn’t coached even his first Spring game here

You’re a little worked up about this for being 4 weeks into the new regime.

Even with Frost and Joseph we played everybody close. We were in almost every game. No reason we shouldn't win the west by year 2. We should be a top 20 team consistently from there forward. I dont know that we will ever be a playoff team but who knows.

Riley left a mess and Frost made it worse. So we are actually 8 years into this dumpster fire. And TCU was an easier rebuild. The previous few years were not great, but they have not been the total dumpster fire we are. Even with NIL money and transfer portals it will take Rhule two years in my view to really turn this around to where we are a consistent winning program with 9 wins at least expected every year.
Two years would be a miracle for a guy that doesn't recruit at an extremely high level. The language used with "development program", "development coach" is just code for "we aren't going to get the best players", despite the fact we are a top 15 program in terms of fan support and investment, the fact that Lincoln is a beautiful city situated near another large city with a top 10 entertainment venue in the world. The fans deserve better than to be scammed over and over....remember Bethune Cookman...a full house 91k to see one of the worst teams in the country just win a game...I suppose we care too much and too little at the same time...care enough to show up but not enough to quit spending for continual and predictable incompetence. And it just continues...9 million for a guy who hasn't won anything and was just disgraced in his previous job, a guy who when he left saw his former team improve dramatically. Sadly 72 million means Rhule has to be one of the best coaches, recruiters, entertainers in the country. If he isn't we get scammed.

Losing our best defensive and offensive players and top dlineman is going to hurt. Bo, for all of his failings, brought such a pedigree that he kept Suh...which propelled him to his best seasons and millions. Rhule did keep Coleman but lost a ton of production...not a good sign that those guys all declared to leave once Rhule was solidified as coach.

We lost all of our production before this season too

According to Rivals Corcoran was a 4*, Lutovsky high 3*, Benhart 4*, Prochazka 4*, Miller 3*. Nouili was a 2* but has shown that rating to be low. Plus we just got the center from ASU and we may still get another player from the portal depending on what happens in the spring. That is just the O-Line. The backfield is talented, the receiver room has talent, the DB room is good. Everybody is spun up about tight ends. There are 11 on the roster, for gosh sakes can't two or three of them be coached up to be servicable? Hard to tell where we are at with LB and DL until we see what the defense is going to look like, but we just got some portal horses and Rhule needs to get more if needed. Assuming CT is mended by fall it seems we will have two guys to compete for QB, both proven and maybe just maybe without a weirdo, 26-page test coach another one can be given a chance and coached up (Haarberg? Synek? Smothers?)

Bottom line is there is NO REASON that with the talent we had this past season we could not have won 7-8 games, except the coaching staff was highly dysfunctional. I DON'T BUY that Rhule can't win right away with the talent he has returning and what he just brought in and will bring in in the spring. The situation he is in now is WAY different than Temple (not a lot of talent) and Baylor (no talent). The whole notion (like McKewon opined in the OWH today) that we need to be patient and wait 2-3 years for NU to start winning is LUDICROUS!
