His appearances on those shows have nothing to do with KSR. You just hate him because he has different views than you. He is the voice of UK Basketball and Football, and sorry buddy, he will be for a long time. So it is probably best for you to get over it. He never talks serious politics on his daytime show.
That you Ryan?

I do think he will change behavior towards media/fans.

Regarding his philosophy/approach- I don't think a guy of his ego and with his history of success would ever allow for this type of season to happen again.

You and I have exchanged opinions on this for the better part of the year. I truly think Cal tried to change a few years back and was bit by transfers and guys ditching program. We escaped this type of awful season by having some guys take huge leaps- PJ, Quickly, Richards, etc.

We have to get guys back. I think Jai will be a help there. He has spoken openly about re-recruiting your current players. I think this is the biggest piece of the puzzle. I also think something will change on the staff.
His ego is the problem, not the solution. When you only have 9 W's for the whole season at UK, he should openbly apologize to the fans and the whole university. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE....period.
Does he do that? Nope. Does he vow to change and re-evaluate everything that he and his staff do? Nope.
Cal has his title and his HOF, he's not the least bit worried. Not the least bit humbled. Still running off at the mouth. He ain't gonna change.
There sre some things that happened this year that he could have prevented and addressed the right way. Did he? Nope. Never, ever thought I would feel this way about Cal. He's lost his way and instead of being able to see it, he keeps going the same way. Until I actually see or hear something that is real from him regarding change and ssome humility, he can leave today and I wouldn't care for one second.

It's cringe worthy when I listen to him talk about college basketbal, because he really knows nothing about it. He just said that Western Kentucky was in the American Conference. How is a guy who prides himself on Kentucky sports not know that Western Kentucky is in Conference USA? It's laughable

I’ve always thought coaches should mostly ignore the fans with the exception of thanking them for showing up, etc. As a coach, don’t get in the trenches with the fans for anything. For the most part, they don’t know enough to even comment intelligently about any situation. Let them talk. Ignore them. You and your team will be better for it.

probably true, its the AD that listens to the fans

and then talks to the coach

Just listened to the first 30 minutes of the podcast. They have absolutely NAILED IT as far as how the fanbase feels. Calipari needs to sit down and listen to this long and hard and have a come to Jesus moment, or he will not be here after next season.

I think this is a critical week

primarily because everyone has a natural reaction to view the year as a whole at the end of the season. Our season ended faster than any time before in Cal's history and any UK fan has had to go back a long ways to remember a time when we didn't have some kind of post season activity, especially if you exclude probation.

Matt did something very important, and that is he framed the voice of the fan in such a way that he is probably getting more alignment than he has ever had in the fanbase falling behind him on any topic.

And the UK administration is going to hear it, hell, I'm sure they have been hearing it all season long, and setting aside the political nature of it, no administration likes to be dragged into controversy, especially one that pits them against the residents of the state it represents and gets funding from.

So the question is, how much rope does Cal have, how much goodwill does past success carry him? I'm not talking about getting fired, that isn't going to happen. I'm talking about Mitch coming in and shortening his leash. Assistant coaches, political statements, player rotations, recruiting, transfers, etc.

And don't try to tell me Mitch can't tell Cal what to do - go read his contract. He answers to Mitch, serves at the request of Mitch, and after a 9-16 season, Cal doesn't have the breadth of support to go into battle mode with his AD.

So what Matt has done is galvanize the fan base a bit more, and has a platform to tell the administration what a group of scattered message board folks may not be as effective at. I would bet money the administration, along with all the other points of input from influencers regarding the University of Kentucky, is listening and will be acting.

But right after their feelings on changes/perspectives needed....they gave a vote on who comes back or not.

- Sarr and Jackson gone...which is reasonable.
- Boston/Clarke gone....which is baloney (and the biggest problem)
- Brooks gone....even dumber
- Mintz possibly back
- Allen back...which is nuts to even wonder if he would leave to begin with.
- Fletcher ...gone...which is fine if he is way off from being on same page with program

So this is all bullcrap if we literally turn over 70% of the roster and production....which tells me Cal is not (or can not ) change this thing at UK. Tchwiebe/Collins are the only high end talent difference makers coming in right now. The rest are complimentary guys....we need to bring back a ton of guys to really take a huge step forward in 2022.

Listening to it................Jones got on Cal pretty hard, but then as always turned it toward Trump (he hates Trump....did you know that?).

I didn't hear any comments from Matt on the "Deer in the Headlights" Commander in Chief we have now.

I knew he would have to throw Trump into the conversation. He can't help himself.

The caller Steven in the second hour nailed and kudos for the call. If Matt lost his yes men and people were complaining he would not be a happy camper. So great analogy

Agreed.

These are the critical questions (other than player rotations which I don't think Mitch will address) to be answered and will determine whether we return to prominence quickly or languish in mediocrity for several more seasons.

Yet some think he should get another because he will "change". He won't.
This right here for all the Cal worshippers that think that man is going to change he isn't going to change s%^t. He is going to keep doing what he's always done we will constantly have the roster turnover and our offense will continue to look like dog s^%t! That man has gotten fat with the money and contract he has been given there isn't s%^ t Mitch can do to him he owns Mitch!

Cal listening to that is about as likely as my dog meowing. Even if he did listen to it, it would have zero effect. Being locked in like he is removes caring about anything but what he wants to care about.
Us basketball benny's need to just shut up and bow.

Which, ironically ties into exactly what Matt went on about. How Cal only listened to Dewayne and Kenny and now that they're gone, there's no one to call him on his bull that he is willing to listen to.

Cal adversariel problem with our fanbase to me is absurd. With all due respect to him and his brief stint as an assistant at Kansas.....he hasnt coached ANYWHERE with a fanbase like this. If Pitino had the same attitude publicly (I'm sure he did privately) that Cal has towards us, he could at least point to dealing with Knicks fans prior.

This is Kentucky. Aside from the Lakers and Celtics there's no other fanbase I will listen to being compared to ours for basketball passion and knowledge.

Great post, but I am not going to hold my breath expecting Barnhart or Cal to do anything. Barnhart is so happy the UK Rifle team is good.

9-16 should warrant a statement from Cal and Barnhart. Still waiting......

Cal is too busy getting ready for the NBA draft to care what fans think. Barnhart is chairing the committee his own school wasn't good enough to get into. He should feel embarrassed by that.

If Banrhart and UK had a backbone, there would be a meeting in which Cal was told to stop with the political stuff. Same for the team. Won't happen though.

Any coach worth his salt, would re-evaluate every aspect of how they do things after a year like this. Instead, we will likley hear about covid and being young. Nothing will change. Maybe an assistant, but that will not be enough.
