I know some of you don’t care for him but he is talking about the season and he nails it.Try to find the podcast to listen to it. Spot on.

You are 100% right...Jones had a spot on take.

Will be interested to see what Cal does here. Jones had been more critical of Cal this year than ever before....rightfully so.

I think Cal will change.

Matt Jones drives as much division in our fanbase as Cal does. He interjects his politics into what we are all passionate about. Jones has made a great career off of the UK fanbase and he has manipulated his politics into it. IF Cal and the team had similarly came out in support of a similar right wing movement Jones would have lost his mind.
Show times he has done that. I’ll wait

Not today though, which is what the thread is about.

When he injects it other times, I simply change the station.

He's knocking it out of the park today, imho.

I agree. I hope Cal gets to listen to what Matt had to say because Matt imparted his well crafted message for John Calipari’s best interest. Matt said he supported the “Swaggy Cal but that he was done with the “Angry Cal”, Matt said the “Swaggy Cal” listened to constructive criticism and respected the fans. The “Angry Cal“ views fans as the enemy and doesn’t listen to anyone. Matt said Cal would listen to Dwayne Peevey and Kenny Payne but these guys are gone.

Matt noted how Cal all too often criticizes Allen but rarely dumped on other players. Matt said Cal did this in spite of Allen’s 23 points against Mississippi State because the fans were on him all year to play Allen.

I still support Coach Cal but Matt made valid points that Cal should review.

This board has been divided over Matt Jones/KSR for 15 years, the nerd fights over Matt Jones vs Marc Maggard were legendary. You see when, any time his name is mentioned, somebody has to come in chiming in with their grievances about him that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

I decided to listen to him today and I'm blown away by how much he has come around. I guess 9 and 16 will do that.

It is like someone kidnapped the super pumper that he used to be. The last time I listened to him (post game) was after we went like one and four or one and five and he had all these people calling in talking about how they still believed it was going to be a good year.

Matt blasted Cal over the Allen thing all year. Cal is frustrated with the fanbase, and he uses Allen as a pawn over it. The very first thing Cal said in the post game press conference was that Allen missed a screen. Matt said "THEY'VE ALL BEEN MISSING SCREENS. WE ARE 9-16. ALLEN SCORED 23 POINTS"

Matt was spot on. I'd recommend catching the podcast.

And the hate is political. Which is very rare on his show. Usually brought up by a caller.

Bring in a defensive guru, (and pay him to stay here) whose sole responsibility is fine tuning a rabid D...without that, you lose to Piss State. Our defense this year was sponsored by Charmin...totally feeble and spineless.

Obvious for years now that Cal doesn't know crap from crisco when he plays a team who has more than one defensive tool in their arsenal. Absolutely cost a title in 2009 because he didn't know how to attack a 1-3-1.

Maybe if he had to see something other than a switching/man defense in practice year in year out, he'd figure out how to beat teams you're supposed to beat in the $EC without an overwhelming difference in talent.

If Cal were as quick to adjust to what other teams are doing on the floor, as he is to snap the head off of his whipping boy for a missed curl, we'd have 10 titles right now.

anyone care to summarize? i didn't get a chance to listen.

Cal sees the fans as the enemy, talks down to us, takes out his frustration with the fans on Dontaie. Lost the only two people he'd listen to when they criticize him (Peevy and Payne) so there's nobody he'll listen to now. Never had any idea what he was doing with this team. Doesn't want him gone, believes he can turn it around, but he HAS to make changes and has to get back to embracing the fanbase.

So Matt said what I, and many others, have been saying all season long? Yet, there’s still a segment of our base that says Cal never treated Dontaie unfairly. They then proceed to copy whatever Cal says as to why his PT vanished. You can’t make this **** up. Some of our fans ARE robots, programmed to think and talk just like the coach.

Yeah I noticed that also about Cals presser. Blamed Allen for not calling a switch but there were a couple other guys right there. Did say Brooks should have went over what about the bigs who gave up 30 pts in paint 1st half.

Cal also said he doesn't care about wins and losses as long as he prepares the kids for what's next in their life .

If that’s what he really said then that ole boy has his priorities all kinds of messed up.

MY only real issue with Calipari is his seeming unwillingness (if he actually doesn't do this) to sit some of these kids down in his office, alone, and tell them in no uncertain terms......."YOU are not ready to play at the next level, period. Don't even think about declaring for the draft. Come back to UK for at least 1 or 2 more years and I will get you ready."!!!

Now, if he had said that to some players, he would have been wrong. But, he would have been right more often than not. And, it would not have cost them more money because their draft stock would have gone up. This would have been better for the team AND the individual players. NOBODY in their right mind EVER says...."I wish I had left college sooner." Trust me on this.

I think Dontaie should have played more early, and should have played more in general, but he DID shoot 2/15 from three in February and March before yesterday, and he really did look pretty bad in some games. I think you have to let a guy play through it more like he did with others, but in that moment when we looked like we might be putting something together, it was being done without Dontaie on the court. I'd have loved to see more of him, but I also think the fans overinflated the hype for what Dontaie could consistently do for us this year. But Cal better damn well keep the kid around because he can become a game in game out big time scorer.

Most recent segment everyone on the show predicted Brooks leaving, said "he doesn't need to but we don't bring juniors back." Horribly disappointing. Brooks is a guy who should be a 4 year player. I've hoped for years some of the lower tier 5 stars or 4 star guys we were getting would give us a 3 to 4 year veteran base along with some one and dones, but Cal just won't put any priority whatsoever on player retention.

If we have a coach who doesn't care about wins and losses then why in the hell is he making 9 million a year? I say don't let the door hit him in the *** on the way out if that's how he feels. Get us a coach who cares about wins and losses.

My biggest issue is the dude thinks you can win basketball games by starting the offense by trying to throw an entry pass every possession and letting a big waste 10 seconds of the shot clock every play. That and he refuses to try to even understand how to play shooters.

He's lying. Of course he cares about wins and losses. No need to get worked up over coach speak. He's recruiting a he's saying that its all coach speak. That video of him saying that will be played in the homes of multiple recruits over the summer.
