I definitely think it's a possible scenario. Pretty torn on this. I guess you have to figure how much this could hurt and how much this could help, and then go from there.
You can't take a single minute of Monks.. so can Diallo help us playing the 3? Surely, there have been many teams succeed with a slightly smaller Small Forward.
Yeah, I just don't see Cal doing this, it's not his style.
I say roll with what we have and gel as a team. We have the guys to do it, they just have to improve.
I guess it depends on what the guys that have put in the work up until now say. If they all go to Cal and say that they want this dude THIS year, than hey, by all means, bring him on. But everyone would need to be on board or Cal risks losing the team.
I like what we have right now, by March they will be a great defensive team. Wenyen just has to figure it out.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. But I do not think he would be on campus taking an official visit if Cal didn't want him. If Cal really didn't want him, I think he would say thanks, but no thanks. I also don't think chemistry would be an issue if Diallo does jump on board. We know Cal is the master at checking egos at the door and managing them. If you have a talent out there like Diallo that wants to help this team/be a team player and help us get 9, you do not turn that away.
That being said, I also like the current roster we have and there is no doubt in my mind we are in the handful of teams that can cut the nets down come April. Taking my blue glasses off, I think this team is the most talented in the country, just need to start locking down on the defensive end. It will happen.

I don't understand how some aren't seeing the risk in this,if he were an AD game changer then maybe but everyone seems to agree he is not.There are other issues as well,if he was projected to be here a year and a half it changes things some but again that does not appear to be the case.

And you believe that one review you read? How many people on this board last year were bragging about Gabriel and him being able to guard 3-4 positions? It was unreal. Gabriel cant even guard one position much less 3.. You just dont count on freshmen to come in and be game changers on defense unless you are an AD type player. Diallo is not the answer for this year. Period.
Futures and expectations for players on Auburn and UT are much different than the futures and expectations at UK though.
The guys at those other two schools are also rans, our guys are dudes that have futures in this game at the highest level.

My bet is that Cal is trying to convince him to come on board, learn this system the second half of the season and come in next year as the guy! Probably trying to sell him on making him the # 1 pick next year.

Whoa, what's this about 1.5 years instead of just a half? That helps us tremendously, and it tells me he's willing to play for the team.
I think his point was players at Auburn and UT other than Stokes and Wiley,those schools didn't have 5 or 6 other players trying to get to the NBA in a year.

The situations are different, Diallo would be taking the minutes of much better players.
[eyeroll] . I want Diallo but not at the cost of Young and if he comes this season I don't see how it will help the team . He isn't a SF ( he is 6'4 and can't shoot ) so how his he different then Briscoe besides being able to jump higher? This team could use a true SF ,which are very rare but we have one next season in Vanderbilt , and a bully PF like Swanigan . Diallo on this team makes little to no sense but I am putting my trust in Cal like always as he has never let me down.
Yes good question. I bet IF he does come he is here 1 1/2 years as you aren't going to improve your stock in 20 games especially splitting time with 3 other elite guards.
The biggest help to us might be to keep him from going to another contender.
He'll get minutes if he deserves it. I'd be with you if Cal played him and he didn't earn it but that wouldn't be the case. These guys need to learn they are never safe from being replaced.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to those guys ( I know I never do) until 24 hours before a guy announces . I would be surprised he went joined that train wreck. The " gurus" usually just go with the grain until the last 24 hours or so and then they hear what is going to happen and pick again . But not always as in the case with WG , Murray , Bam ect ect.
