11 shots in 18 minutes, 4 fouls
only two less than JY...why this is allowed to go on is beyond me.
its an indictment of Pikiell and the coaching staff that one they have allowed Mathis to make the same mistakes repeatedly and two that this deep in the season they developed no other option
Sorry guys. Can’t talk out of both sides of your mouth
do you play guys who give effort or do you continue to give minutes to guys that mope and dont defend.
montez was working hard.
I’d rather see someone else like a Mag Jones Oskar, but the disappointing thing is those guys aren’t ready.....which really concerns me.
this game screamed giving them minutes, huge indictment they weren’t options.
So let me get this straight we are mad at the kid who helped get us back in the game?
I would start Mathis tomorrow and have Caleb coming off the bench. For some reason Caleb gets a pass on all his misses. Yet when we were really good this year Mathis played a much bigger role
Paul doesn’t shoot. McConnell was 0 for. Ron was 0 for until Mathis offensive rebound late in game (maybe under 2mins?)
Mathis played good D and gave better offense than Ron and McConnell there is no reason for this thread tonight.
sorry key moments of the game with sub patterns are tanking us every single game, its like clockwork,
i would go as far as to say Im done blaming Mathis..this is a Pikiell issue, he needs to own what is going on
And some of his misses should count as two misses like the open three that nearly slammed the underside of the backboard about a foot to the left of the rim.Mathis was 3-11 in the game.
Do not know what game you watched as most of Tez’s shots were good shots and going hard to the hole. Wish he would make an and one one of these days. Pike had the wrong guys in the game most of the game. Paul was almost terrible today and he finally took him out and we came from 15 down to 47-41. Then he had the nerve to take Jacob out and put Paul back in. It was criminal. I love Caleb but he did very little today and should not have played that much. Ron was a total no show but why put him back with 4 and a half to go. Tez had one of his better games in the last 10. He was attacking under control , hit his foul shots. He missed his 2 early threes in the first half but at least he took them , which he stopped doing for the last 8-9 games. Tez was averaging 14 + when we were winning and he was starting . He has not adapted to coming off the bench and mentally it has been so bad that he couldn’t even hit uncontested layups. But our offense needs points and Montez gives you a threat. When Paul and Caleb do not try to score or their shots do not go down (Caleb) Tez has to play. God knows we could use 2-3 threes a game out of him now like we were getting earlier.11 shots in 18 minutes, 4 fouls

yeah i guess you were not paying attention to his bricks from 3 wide open, one not even hitting rim
I have been down on MM...but reality is we had Caleb play 30 minutes and only shut the ball 5 times and Paul played 29 minutes and only shot the ball 6 times. Nearly 30% of the on the floor minutes. They need to have 16-18 shots at the hoop...not 11
cant score ifyou can’t find or make yourself open to score
at some point ...someone has to be a willing shooter and scorer
I said at the beginning of the year that our receipe was the Maryland and Purdue games Of last year games where Jacob and Montez would join ron and geo as double digit scorers...
caleb and Paul remain pieces but the number of games they score to match their minutes isn’t many ...
we need Tez and young to score ...if they don’t ...we don’t have enough offense to win .

Lotta truth here. On the one hand, we have a couple guys (Caleb, Paul....and Paul specifically) who are not looking for a shot and any semblance of an offense stops when the ball touches their hands, making it very easy for the D to recover and get set. On the other hand, we have guys who are either out of control throwing up bricks/driving into trees (Tez) or in the worst shooting slump ever (Ron).I have been down on MM...but reality is we had Caleb play 30 minutes and only shut the ball 5 times and Paul played 29 minutes and only shot the ball 6 times. He made a couple lucky baskets as he just drove blindly 1 on 3 and again does not pass the ball how about his wide open 3 where he didn't even hit the rim!!!did he really get us back in the game...we were really never in the game....do you want him to go 6-22 in 30 minutes because thats what you will get.
yay Mathis made a couple of baskets, all of sudden he is a plus...huh? His decision making his still horrific and he is bricking 3 points that are wide wide open..as is Caleb
Not quite ready YET to go there. Myles and Eugene are good reasons why.Agree..this is scary for future..very scary
I sense a Northwestern drop off unfortunately and another 4 year build
This is what has been so frustrating about him. The reason him and Young got pulled from the starting five was because back in January when this team couldn’t get a win to save their lives, the two of them were repeatedly putting their head down and driving to the basket against multiple defenders and taking awful contested shots.Mathis isnt the only thing wrong obviously, but the issue with him is he is making the same mistakes over and over and over again.
Good lord. Debating tez shots versus Paul shots. Lol. How about our leaders lead and make some frigging shots?
