Casey Thompson wasn't lying. He was simply telling the truth. Nebraska is not f***ing around when it comes to NIL. We might not win every fight but schools are going to equate Nebraska in the same vein as Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas and other big money schools. Not a school that others are going to want to compete with. We have the rabid fan base. That's what you need.
Exactly.

I want O Mathis badly, but don't think he's coming here. Texas has taken every opportunity to dance on NUs grave over the last 20 years and I am convinced this is just going to be the next episode of the saga.
I'm here to say I was wrong, pop a bottle, and Tuck Fexas!!!!

Nebraska has a $500K NIL deal on the table for Ochaun Mathis. Reported by Sipple. This is the balls out and take no ***** effort needed to complete for top level talent in today's world of college football.

I wonder if someone upped the NIL ante to get Mathis on board.

Is it possible that mom got something out of this also. I mean is against the rules that a company can hire her and give her a large salary.

Nope. We lost a recruit some years back to Arkansas. The Athletic Department itself gave her a job. Mom is always a key to wing the recruitment battle.

Gonna be hard to cap any NIL payments going forward. Happy we got him. Haye where the arms race has taken us. This is maybe a 7 win team and we just paid half a mil for 1 guy.

This is precisely what the critics of NIL predicted would happen. You combine this with the easing of transfer rules and you have a perfect storm for college football to essentially start a process of "free agency" that is going to be its undoing. Because the point above is exactly right. If am I Robinson or Hutmacher I am going to threaten going to the portal unless somebody ponies up big bucks. And once the money starts flowing to various players but not to others how does that create a "team" mentality.

This whole thing just makes me want to puke and leaves me wondering if College football is even worth following anymore. This is not the same sport I grew up loving as a boy in Lincoln. And this is not false nostalgia for some ******** rosy past. It is a simple observation that college football is moving toward becoming professionalized and not amateur. And perhaps that is fair and the players should get a piece of the pie. But in so doing it is now a professional sport with a whole different tone and tenor. And I hate it.
I agree with basically everything you say but, at the same time, the college football you long for was quite clearly exploitive of the athletes and prevented them from realizing their true financial worth. Instead, all of that money went to already wealthy universities, administrators, coaches, etc... That's just reality. I don't claim to have answers, and you are right that this is largely taking the enjoyment out of college sports that we all all love, but perhaps the college sports model never was sustainable outside of that exploitative context, at least when you're dealing with the highest of high end athletes. At the end of the day, this is America, and we shouldn't begrudge anyone capitalizing on their value as much as possible. We'd all do the same.

Cannot wait to read about all the train wrecks these NIL deals will have caused...years from now you'll hear about how mom or dad or some other sibling, siphoned off a huge chunk and now they don't talk anymore.....all the cars the player will spring for, for his parents and or possee, the point spread shaving sure to come about, the girls who get preggos on purpose from the kid who got a large NIL deal, the long lost parent who suddenly shows up out of the blue when the kid they abandoned signs a big deal...plus many others I haven't even thought of yet...like maybe, kids leaving before their degree is complete because they think 100K is a million that will last forever and when it doesn't the degree doesn't happen. This has disaster written all over it
Wait, you think point shaving is MORE likely now when these kids are getting real money than before when they weren't getting paid a dime? How do you figure?

No where did I say it was more likely...but it also isn't a stretch to think some donor who paid bookoo bucks to a recruit that hasn't panned out might remind said recruit of all the money he was given to play for (inseet any school here) and suggest there might be a way for said player to make it up to the donor and in doing so could earn an additional (insert amount here). Will it be common place? IDK....but it will happen.

NCAA will probably sanction us for this (while letting the SEC teams get away with it)

Nice to have him for sure, but... $700,000? This student is being paid 10x more than most of his professors.

That's nothing to be proud of. Having the worst FB & BB programs under normal circumstances. And then using bribery & sleaze to buy players.

You guys say your fans are superior and that it's the American way. But no, it's not. For instance, you can't pay people to do crimes, become Nazis or Commies...there are some things you can't buy. You're making a complete mockery of what college sports is supposed to be.

I realize that some teams cheat and should be dealt with. Expanding the playoff to 16 teams would be a start. But I'm 100% against going down into the gutter with them. Shameful.

The gutter? Like rape and racism? Or you still cool with both?

Lot's of luck with trying to stop players from getting NIL deals. Lawsuit heaven for lawyers. Courts have already signaled they favor player's rights. So I hope the NCAA has some very good lawyers involved before they come up with new rules.

So then boosters give to the school and the school awards the money.

What crimes are bing committed here? You compare NIL to committing crimes, becoming Nazis and / or commies. How can you compare this with NIL?

I don’t think I’ve seen bigger leaps than this right here… don’t you have any pride? Don’t you care how stupid you look posting this and how stupid we believe you to be? Or maybe it’s not an act and you really are this stupid.

Not to mention the fact that tons and tons of criminals and nazis did it for money/other incentives

the dumbfvck didn’t even use an apt analogy
