It is if the threat of violence is held over your head.
God doesn't need ones to ask for forgiveness. We need to ask and forgive eachother.

Again its behavior you didn't have to partake in as you knew what you were doing is not acceptable in the eyes of God

God knows we are not going to do right.

Are you saying God should forgive sin he didnt make you do.

Of course God will forgive your sin, if you repent and don't repeat.

To err is human. Let he or she who is without sin, cast the first stone.

Please don't suggest you've never committed a sin.

Judging by the moral quality on this board, the amount of ignorance, arrogance, petulance, and bitchery, much of it done by men who profess to be Christian I would say I am glad these guys have some road-block to their sin, even if they can just repent later. One reason Christianity rose in the first place was it didn't outright encourage slaughter and rape, ambition, and hunger for power like many of the pagan religions at the time. Just imagine what this board would be like if some of these guys thought Odin would raise them to Valhalla for their posting ambition. I am pretty sure the arsehol who brags about post number is a heathen tho.

Romans had such a brutal marriage system that they had to invented a myth that their literal city of Rome was founded on kidnapping and raping the nearby latin and sapine woman. Marriage is not a key indicator of imperial success in anyway. Most of the most successful societies are built on slave labor so that power and wealth can be built for the cost of the human body, this wealth can then be distributed to soldiers and engineers, who then use slaves to build great works.
All the "most successful" societies you talk about collapsed.

No. It is behavior control that a culture made up and attributed it to god and then told ones how to behave in order to please god. It's all about control.
Getting morality from the bible is a fools errand.

Ironically, this story wasn't originally in the bible. It only appears around the 10th century. One of the best stories wasn't even canon. The prodigal son and the good samaritan are the only real good stories worth taking lessons from.

Christianity also appealed to women early on because it didn't require sex and the pain of childbirth since the Kingdom was just around the corner and there would be no marriage and procreation in the Kingdom. Just resurrections. Women had much more of a voice early on until they were squashed and Paul's writings dictated church operations.

Your reply in Line 1, and this in line 3.
"Are you saying God should forgive sin that he didn't make you do?" .

I agree with what you said in line 2.

I agree with what you said in line 2.

That was in response to calling repenting coercion.

I see it as guidelines to forgiveness if you choose.

Just raise poor children. My kids think we're poor, my house is 56k, 560 a month Mortgage. We have one 10 year old car, already paid off, both parents are professionals and misers. Keep telling them we have to sell their trains on ebay to make ends meet.
Probably a pretty nice place for Iowa?

You're pretty judgemental. The belief in God is based on faith and a Bible.

There are so many contradictions in the Bible, one has to decifer what it means, and it means different things to different people.
He said be believes in God, but that he is unimpressed with God. Sounds like he's a little lost. It's an opinion, based on his comments. Does that make sense?

I'm unimpressed with YOUR god. He isn't holy/different at all. Imagine an all mighty being using fear as their primary tool to motivate people. That is level one on the morality scale.

I really don't take issue with those who have beliefs that they strongly adhere to, and can get along with them just fine, until they try to impose some of those things on me.

If I'm expected to adhere to their words, then they too must adhere to my words. They believe no stronger in their words than I believe in mine.

I do take issue with people who like to judge, but are in no position to judge anyone.
Do you really get upset by someone having an opinion?

you are insinuating that I am lost when it is likely that you are lost.
I didn't insinuate anything, those were your words I used. You believe in God, but at the same time you are unimpressed with God because God hasn't given you anything more than a bible. No? I said it sounds like you are lost. Pretty harsh.

MY God doesn't use fear. How do you know MY God. Whose being judgmental?

If you actually knew your bible, you would understand what I was saying but you are a Sunday Christian. You enjoy the Us vs Them cult mentality.

You believe your religion alone is the arbiter of truth.
I practice my religion because I believe in the teachings. Does not everyone else who practices a certain religion? If not, why do they participate? You can believe whatever you want; I don't think I am better than you, or anyone else, who doesn't agree with me. When have I ever suggested that? You seem super defensive when, after you start bagging on religion, you get asked a few simple questions to explain yourself. You sound lost.

Keep digging that hole deeper. You're starting to sound a little desperate. I'd ask you to explain yourself a little more, but I think I know now that I'm just not enlightened enough to understand your lostness. Good luck bud. I will pray for you tonight to my God, for real. God bless.

My opinion is just as valid as yours, not more, not less, but equal.

Or are you some kind of a reknown theologian?

You're not expressing your views, you are imposing your beliefs that not all would agree with.

You are a complete tool. So disingenuous its sad.

I doubt you have enough enlightenment to be giving your opinion as facts.

This is an opinion forum.
That means people have a right to their opinions, rather you agree/disagree, or like/dislike their opinion.

was marriage designed to evolve society? was marriage successful in making America one of the greatest nations in history? does marriage require religion to be successful? does the absence of religion mean less marriage? with less marriage is there an inevitable degradation of society?
