I think Kyle Tucker had a pretty good answer to the "it feels like Cal is scrambling?" question:
"I totally get why it would look like a scramble, and while I certainly cannot rule out that this isn’t the case, I don’t really think it’s that so much as the plan is to make damn sure they don’t strike out. So it appears Kentucky is casting a wide net [recites names of players associated so far with UK]. One total guess in terms of a great fit: Colorado’s McKinley Wright IV.
So yep, that’s a ton of names and a wild variance in types of player and experience level .... But if you know it is an absolute must to improve your guard play, isn’t it wise to have a big list of quality options instead of putting all eggs in one basket and risk whiffing completely? I would say there is no chance Kentucky comes up empty here. While it feels like Carr is the no-doubt home run among the current publicly available options, I’m really intrigued by the offer to Washington, who dominated at Geico Nationals last week (in fact, he outplayed Hickman) and looks very much like a Calipari point guard to me.
Luke D. asked when it would be appropriate to panic as he watches Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and others add high-profile transfers. I’d say if Carr, Miller and Washington all head elsewhere, then it would be OK to freak out a little. But even then, I would be inclined to suspect Calipari has something up his sleeve. He’s been a man on a mission since getting embarrassed this year."
