Same here, I would support him but I am not a fan of his game as a PG.

He’s never really been a PG. Either way, we likely need two more guards added to the roster. Whether that’s Mintz plus one, or two new guys, it’s important to get a couple more.

I like Dontaie Allen a lot, but I don’t want him coasting into a starting spot next year, nor do I want Calipari being lured into playing Brooks or Toppin as the primary rotation at the 3 spot. A guy of McClung’s caliber or Mintz, along with Grady/Allen, forces the three guard lineup ala two years ago with Hagans/Quickley/Maxey or the two Briscoe years.

Why doesn't Beard want him at Texas?

He's a volume shooter. Why do we need a kid that wants to shoot the ball 15 times a game?

Just because UK has reached out to a lot of players doesn’t mean they have offered or are seriously interested. It seems nothing will please the haters.
I'd say having a winning record and making the NCAA tournament might start to make the "haters" happy.

I would take him over another freshman point guard like Tyty Washington.
That's what I'm expecting to happen.I think Mintz will try to make money overseas and Washington/Hickman will be our point guards.Maybe Cal adds a 2 guard to backup Grady.

McClung is better than anyone from last years team. I want as many guys like that as I can get, We aren’t going to grow last years team into contenders folks, you can’t polish a turd. We need good players as many as we have scholarships for.

If Washington/Hickman are our only point guards next season it's going to be rough.
I beg to differ. These two play with moxie. They know and played each other since fourth grade. Watching them go against each other in Geico Nationals showed what they both have and can complement each other. Hickman is a steady heads up player. Pass first and knows his angles and can get to his spot. Can drive and take contact. Washington is a scorer, willing to put team on back and get the ball in bucket. Has a quick jumper and an extra gear to get by his man. Mintz, or any upperclassmen pg will be able Tutor them and bring them back into focus. Both are hard workers. If Ty comes, it can be special. If Ty comes and Rupp is at full capacity, UK can be really something spectacular. Last year's team wasn't focused, a lot of hand holding and who is the man. These two are much more level headed and play to win. You can't coach cohesion in the time Cal has before the bright lights come on. You can't unteach bad habits if the player knows he has Noone to replace him...we won't see another season like last year unless covid-20 happens...

Gauging interest does not mean UK has made an offer. It is smart for UK to reach out to as many good players as possible to gauge their interest. It may not even be Cal but one or more of the assistants making contact.
Exactly. Surprised at how many on here are so inept at understanding recruiting tactics. Cast a wide net and then pick.

It sounds like it's going to be a long wait for McClung while he's getting draft feedback. I don't think he's a particularly good fit, but I'm fine keeping in contact and signing him a few weeks down the road if he's still needed.

It’s called having a full pipeline . He’s reaching out to quality players. Not scrubs. There’s a ton of options this year because of the new transfer rule and the amount of players in the portal. And just bc he shows interest in a player, that doesn’t mean he has to take them. He wants lots of kids to choose from. Then he can pick and choose. If there’s one thing Cal knows how to do it’s recruiting. On the high school and the college transfer level
Yes sir, he really showed that recruiting skill last year.

And covid-20? So we talking back to the future time travel **** here. Well played, no more down years until time travel is invented.

I remember how awesome Boston and Clarke were going to be, too.

“He’s been a man on a mission since getting embarrassed this year.” What has he done honestly? Landed Grady and literally lost just about everyone else. Going to probably return 4 or 5 from a 9 win team, what am I missing?
Since this man on a mission statement:
1. Boston doesn't even sniff staying for 2nd year
2. Clarke as expected doesn't even sniff for 2nd year
3. Lost Hunter Sallis to Gonzaga
4. Got Grady to UK which is good
5. Trevor Keels to Duke
6. Askew transfers to Texas..after his dad said he's back with UK
7. Brooks is mystery to stay at UK or go to IU
8. No word on Mintz to stay at UK
9. Justin Powell commits to Tenn when we need more guards
10. Carr...who isn't a big pro prospect.....can't decide on UK vs. draft
11. Makes another pitch to Jaylen Hardy....who appears dead set on G League
12. Offers Ty Ty Washington

For a man on a mission.....looks more like a suicide mission to me at this point. We literally have 8 dudes lined up for 2021 right now...so it is 100% clear to me we'll have yet another year for 2 + un-used scholarships.

Texas had contacted McClung so evidently Beard does want him. Maybe McClung prefers to get closer home.

He didn’t miss on the recruits. He gets high rated recruits. The entire recruiting world missed on those recruits. It’s a crapshoot with freshmen. Usually it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t. Last year it obviously didn’t. My point is, he can’t still get highly rated guys whether that’s from the high school rankings or the transfer Portal. Whether those players pan out or not, is another story

So now the tournament AND recruiting is a crapshoot.

why do we even pay the guys?

I think call reached out because Mac is a guy that plays 110% and competes the whole 40 minutes. This year we had more than a couple guys who just didn’t have that in them. And cal absolutely hates guys like that. And they do bad here. Mac does some things cal doesn’t usually take or like but he also has the few things he absolutely loves. And that’s a competitor and a dog. I think Mac had that in him. Cal may be what he needs.

I have a very close friend who is a Georgetown law grad and has season tickets.

I went to two games at the DC Verizon Center with him when McClung was there. Maybe it was a coincidence but in both those games Georgetown lost when the team should have won. McClung's volume shooting was a decisive factor in defeat.

That said, what should be obvious to all is Calipari knows about 200 times more about basketball than I do, and about 500 times more than the average Rupp Rafters poster. So, if he thinks McClung is a fit, that's good by me.
Well he thought Askew was a good fit.

What was your take on Boston and Clarke pre-UK? Probably just as glowing if I had to guess.
