Looking for a good boilo recipe

I saved this recipe that Victor E. Bell shared on our old board:

Approx 1L ginger ale
4 oranges
4 lemons
1 tsp caraway seeds
12 oz honey
4-5 cinnamon sticks
750ml Four Queens whiskey (any cheap whiskey will do)
1/2 750ml cheap vodka. Some will use grain, whatever.

Zest some of the fruit and put about a tablespoon of zest in a large pot. Peel, quarter, and squeeze the rest of the fruit into pot. Add all other ingredients except alcohol. Boil on stovetop for 6-8 minutes. Stir constantly. Cover and allow to cool a bit. Add booze and stir. Strain and bottle. Yield approx 2 1/2 750ml bottles. Some people cut up the fruit and use peel and all. I find that can make it bitter. Up to you. I strain twice. Some will put a cinny stick in the bottle with the product. Endless ways to do it.

Haha I didn’t even know what Four Queens was until I watched that very informative video. My neighbors in south jersey might be getting some Boilo for Christmas this year! Although I doubt the Wine Warehouse near me sells four queens so I may have to improvise!

1 pint of water
1/2 fist of peppercorns (yes, fist)
1/2 fist all spice
1 tbl sp caraway seeds
1 pint honey
2 cinnamon sticks
I whole orang cut up
1/2 lemon cut up

put all ingredients in a pot (except alcohol) on med heat and bring to a rolling boil for 7 min. Remove from heat and allow slight cool down. Add booze and bring to slight boil for 4 min. Stain and serve warm

Do you strain the oranges and lemon or leave it in?

I strain everything and then chill it. If you like it warm it can be reheated but don’t boil so you don’t cook off the alcohol

This is a pretty good recipe, every family in the REGION has its own concoction. Recipes are handed down from one generation to another; variations of grandpa's/grandma's recipe are frowned upon.

Boilo is the only thing keeping Four Queens alive. 95% of it is sold in Pennsylvania, and I’d be willing to bet 30% is sold in Skook County.
