So you cannot have it both ways and just get to count our close losses. We are a few plays away from being a whole lot worse than we are a few plays away from being better.

So what's your saying is we're competitive in our conference. We weren't competitive the last 2 years, so we've gotten better

All I have heard the last few weeks is how improved/strong the SEC is this year. Lunardi has 6 SEC teams in.....

I agree.

Of our 8 sec losses, we lost 5 of them by 6 points or less. In those 5 games, we held a 2nd half lead. We're a player or 2 away. Weatherspoon can be that player imo

I just don't think he can make half time adjustment or second half game time adjustments. He just gets out coach.

Did you seriously just try to use UK as anything to compare the SEC to?

If so, I won't even dignify you with any more responses. The freaking NBA team that plays at UK has NOTHING to do with how bad the rest of the SEC is.

This has been the issue for years. The SEC has been bad for years. The SEC when UK is good though is perceived to be decent. When NCAAT times comes around, people again realize that 'oh wait, the SEC sucks'.

When UK is great, they give the rest of the SEC a bump to being good. This isn't new.

Also, Lunardi has UK a 1, Ark a 6, OM an 8, LSU an 11, UGA an 8... My eyes are deceiving me but I cannot for the life of me find the 6th team. Not even kidding. who is the 6th?

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but isn't this the bigger issue...

I think ray should get his 4th year. Let him sink or swim with his core group of players (ware, sword, and fred).

ARen't all three of those kids Stans' signees/commitments?

Last night y'all lost to an Ole Miss team led by Stefan Moody, who was a Juco guard that committed to Ole Miss in October of 2013. By my count, Ray had been on the job for 18 months when Moody committed to AK.

Heading into year 4 of his program, he doesn't have a single player that I think anyone could or should get excited about that is on the roster now, that committed/signed with him. That is the biggest problem facing Rick Ray.

He hasn't figured out how to land transfers, juco studs, or basically the talented head case that can make your team relevant.

Here are your defensive stats to back up your side of this... oh wait... Far from something that I would say offsets our offensive stats... I understand that some here are trying to find positives and good for you... But, you are on a ledge if you are still trying at this point. THIS TEAM SCORED 9 POINTS IN AN ENTIRE HALF OF BASKETBALL. That takes a special kind of bad. We are something I have not seen in a long time.

POINTS ALLOWED62.7
84th OVERALL

24.6
103rd OVERALL

[h=4]BLOCKS PER GAME[/h]
2.8
247th OVERALL

[h=4]STEALS PER GAME[/h]

And here are the offensive (truly)

Yeah they were Stansbury commits, but Ray has coached them their whole career.

Weatherspoon is a top 100 player. I think we can be excited about him.
Simonds is a top 100 player. I think we can be excited about him.
Hicks is a good player who chose us over Florida. I think we can be excited about him.

Up until recently though, Ray has left much to be desired recruiting.

Did he realize that he could start recruiting players before his 'year 1' began? Because I look at our current team and the small amount of talent we have is about 90% due to the previous dumpster fire.

Yeah, but Simmons won't be here for almost 20 months, and Weatherspoon is a nice player, but there is a big difference in a top 20 type recruit and a top 100 recruit that is a solid contributor.

I don't care what y'all do, my preference is for y'all to keep him, because if he gets next year, I could see him getting a 5th year.

You left off the sarcasterisks on the last sentence***

Actually, what will probably happen is that UK will play like complete crap (for them) and we will keep it close until about 5 mins to go when they will comfortably win by 16 without breaking a sweat. Then, some here will tout that as another moral victory. Maybe one day soon we will recover from that dumpster fire from 3 years ago... While we watch other teams start from scratch and improve in a year.

So Ray coaching them has been the problem? Also, of your bright spots that we can look forward to, 2 of the 3 are juniors in high school??? We have to wait 2 more years for a decent team?

Nah, we are going to lose by 30+. I really feel bad for Craig Sword. That guy is a good player who lays it on the line every game. It's too bad Ray hasn't been able to find him any help in 3 years.

Got them. aTm as an 11 seed. Which has irony written all over it

So, to say that the SEC has 6 teams in is still a bit of an loaded statement. After the first round, there might only be one team left.

If Ray doesn't get to postseason play next season, I don't wanna wait on them. I'm not sold on Ray in the least, but I try to keep an open mind on him since he WILL be back next season. We're still recruiting players to come here and the constant ripping of our coach helps us in no way

I think he's saying the culture of AAU basketball lends itself to players thinking they are already developed. You have to recruit the right player or just bring in someone with an immense amount of talent.

Correct. Too many players are past the point of no return once they get to the college level. It is silly to me to think that a college staff can't teach the fundamentals of the game.

I await your bet. You can name it whenever you are ready.

If there are 6 NCAA teams left after round of 64, the universe will explode.

The two 11 seeds are squarely on the bubble. A bad loss or two down the stretch could do both in. And I think the last bracketology was out before UGA lost at home to SC. Their stock is trending toward the bubble as well.

I will be very surprised if more than 4 teams make it. And no way 2 make it to the S16

You are 100% correct on this. We either fire him now, or we are probably going to have to fire him after 2016/2017 season. Because chances are, he will probably make the NIT bubble next year just based on having a senior laden team (although I agree these guys are not that great, role players at best).

There again, we probably are headed for 14-17 this year. Assuming he makes some improvement, he is 17-14 in 2016, because it is not like he has recruited a shooter, nothing but high school guys from what I see. That still may get him fired. I would think he would have to win 20 to stick around.

Kentucky and arkansas are S16 teams in my eyes. The others I have no confidence in, but they could be dangerous. OM can go off from 3 point land any given game. Lsu has talent, but coaching is an issue. aTm could be dangerous bc of house's scoring ability

Coach 34 is somewhat touchy ... especially when you 'disagree' with his positions on Stans or Ray. Instead of coming up with good arguments, he just 'edits' your posts.

Last night he kept trying to justify Ray resting Ready. Over and over. Ready played 25 minutes and Bloodman 15. Meanwhile OM's Moody played like 36 minutes and didn't look at all too tired to hit 8 of 12 beyond the arc.

I still post BUT have refrained from comparing Ray with Stans.

I've stayed out of these discussions. However, this sums it up for me. I don't think anyone needs to say anything else.

I don't see why this game would be the reason. You're an average team, Ole Miss is a pretty good team and you lost a pretty well played game because the best player on the court had a great game. Not sure Rick Ray can help it that Moody went NBA Jam last night
