A bunch of schools that couldn’t even win their conference plus the champions of the best conference in the nation. Honestly Auburn is probably too good for this tourney but baby steps I guess

The fanbase is buzzing over this event. There could be dozens of proud Aubs in attendance from what I’m hearing.
Dozens? Say it ain't so. I bet when you guys come to Rupp you will bring 60 or so. How does it feel to be moving up the food chain in the basketball world? let us know if you guys have any rejects that Cal may want to recruit...

Auburn fans who have heard of basketball: < 100
Auburn fans who know they have a basketball team: < 20
Auburn fans who have heard of the Maui Invitational: approx. 2
Auburn fans who have expressed interest in attending Maui Invitational: 1, apparently

Hey, at least Auburn fans seem to care more than Florida fans; they would still rather be french-kissing Tim Tebow, than going to a basketball game. Isn't that right, Rush?

Good stuff here. Are tickets hard to get/ expensive? I’d like to avoid going through the travel packages they offer.

And now for a serious post...

Individual tickets will go on sale in August. I went back in 2010 and this is how I got mine. For the championship game, I lined up after the semifinal game and bought tickets on site.

As far as things to do, rent a convertible, it's worth it. Drive the Road to Hana and plan to take your time. It's absolutely beautiful. Also, check out the Haleakala Crater. If you do, take a jacket.

I stayed in Kihei and made the drive to Lahaina along the coast each day for the games. It, too, is a breathtaking drive.

And make time to relax on the beach.

I know that UK fans have never had the pleasure of having successfull programs in more than one sport, but let’s not forget that this event is right in the middle of SEC play in football, where AU boasts another top 10 program. So yeah, the whole fan base can’t make it bc most will be gassing up the RVs and tailgating in SEC country

Hey Cats. As you probably know Auburn headlines the field in the 2018 edition. Other teams include Arizona, Duke, Gonzaga, Illinois, Iowa State, San Diego State and Xavier.

Anyway, I assume the Cats have been to this event a few times and was wondering if any esteemed RR community members have been. Thinking about attending so wondering if anyone has any recs. Hotels, tickets, golf etc would be great.

WDE and Go Cats!
I like this guy. Unlike your ordinary garden variety troll - we have a ton of those - who are humorless and often just weird, this guy is funny. And any time he posts, I (and he) can count on BBN to make it at least a 2 pager......

This is about basketball; try to keep up. Notice that this is a basketball board; football is not relevant to this conversation. Auburn has one good year, but still can't top Kentucky in the post-season, yet Auburn fans come over here and talk mouth.

Auburn in 1999: Dominates SEC, but goes 0-2 against Kentucky, and makes the Sweet 16. Kentucky not only beats Auburn in the SEC tournament, but goes to the Elite Eight

Auburn in 2018: Wins SEC with Tennessee, but they do beat Kentucky at home. Unfortunately, Auburn loses by double-digits to Alabama in the SEC tournament. After surviving Charleston, Auburn get spanked by Clemson. Kentucky, like in 1999 wins the SEC tournament, and although in disappointing fashion, still makes the Sweet 16 in the NCAA.

Again, this is a basketball discussion; for this exercise, IDGAF about football or any other sport.

Man that sounds like an incredible vacation. Must have been amazing to go to Hawaii to see the Cats play. I wish Cal would go back, but I understand his reasons for disliking this tournament.

Are you one of the <100 who've heard of basketball, or <20 that know you have a basketball team?

If it's the former... hey, you have a basketball team.
And they're playing in Maui next season.

You're welcome.

It was. People were saying to not even watch the Cats, to go and just enjoy Hawaii. But watching the games up close just made it so much better. And it's not like it took a whole day to watch a game.

IF UK ever goes back, I fully plan on making the trip again. There's nothing like it.

If only they could play the Final Four in Hawaii...

I have been to Maui a couple of times. The last time in 2016, we stayed in a suite at the Hyatt resort right on the beach. It was very nice and the breakfast buffet was outstanding every morning and it varied every morning. If you stay there, I suggest you rent a cabana. Drinks and fresh pineapple are brought to you all day. We enjoyed it so much we did it several days. The Old Lihaina Luau was very good. The Road to Hana is a must. The helicopter tour was great. Plenty of great restaurants. Let me warn you- Maui is expensive as hell. Be prepared to spend a ton of money if you want to experience what the island has to offer. It’s worth it though.

Excellent. I've been and done some of the touristy stuff. I'd like to go enjoy the beach, hoops and golf. I mean dream scenario I'm playing chicken in the pool with Austin, Jared, Chuma. Rubbing suntan oil on Steven and the gang. Oh man I'm doing this.

I expect an auburn game thread every day you’re in Maui, Denim
@Denim Vest has a very bad attitude. He was left a lot of money from his grandparents & hasn't worked in 10 years. Not a bad guy, just spoiled & all. I met him at Commonwealth/Kroger two years ago. He is FOS on tMB, but still is a prenty funny guy. That's where we hooked up. I gotta admit their basketball program is the up & coming of all SEC teams. Football has been ruined by by Gus tho

Who will sweat more in a game, Bruce Pearl or Sean Miller? The court would become very dangerous with those two out there..

Will Pearl still be the coach at Auburn?

I love this post. It’s the off-season and this is more fun than just fighting with each other until next year. Kudos to the OP for knowingly chumming the sharks.
