I'm wondering how young some people are. We've been through worse before -- we are god-awful in a lesser, less respected conference and making less money and drawing smaller crowds in a smaller stadium doing it. This is nothing.
You don't have to be rich to compete. Long term, year after year requires money. No doubt. But there's no reason you have to suck every year because you're "broke." We were 8-5 with an easy bowl win over a P5 team just a few years ago. In the Big Ten. You know, with Flood. Yes, I get that was the worst Michigan team in decades we barely beat at home, but so what? Now, suddenly, we don't have the money to compete?
Bull. We were flooded. And as bad as we thought it was, it was even worse. I will never blame Schiano for taking an NFL job, but that timing was horrific. So few options at that point, and in the end we probably had only one. (Don't give me that crap about Rutgers unwillingness to pay for a real coach. What "real" coach is leaving his program a few days before signing day to come to Rutgers?)
Being broke has nothing to do with 2-10 last year and where we are now. Year after year after year of 5-7 would be a better reflection of resources than a sudden collapse to oblivion.
