James at third, Skinner in left, Clark at DH. Leggett was already a liability at the plate. He couldn't afford to be one in the field. It's time for Skinner to step up.
I was a big proponent of Cumbest getting a chance, and by chance, I mean at least a few games in a row of steady at-bats. He got that and more, and didn't win the position. To me, I don't think it matters if it's him or Skinner out there. The only thing that's true is that Clark needs to be the DH.The refusal to play Cumbest is and has been strange when our other options are so lacking.
Conference-only stats probably tell a different story, but not sure where to find those.Cumbest has some bad at bats, but the great thing about him is that he can hit a HR at any time. He’s also hitting a hundred points higher than Skinner. Skinner got that HR against LSU, but that’s a rare thing for him
We probably should have Cumbest in the lineup vs lefties at a minimum. We may as well play Keegan at 3rd if Leggett struggles defensively. Kellum Clark’s bat needs to be in the lineup everyday and this has impacted Cumbest, Skinner, & probably even Leggett’s at bats
Conference-only stats probably tell a different story, but not sure where to find those.
Consider me corrected.
Watching Tanner and James K against this righty in Top 3, I think you can see why Cumbest isn't starting today.
I agree, though, he needs to be playing.
