I was a big proponent of Cumbest getting a chance, and by chance, I mean at least a few games in a row of steady at-bats. He got that and more, and didn't win the position. To me, I don't think it matters if it's him or Skinner out there. The only thing that's true is that Clark needs to be the DH.

Cumbest has some bad at bats, but the great thing about him is that he can hit a HR at any time. He’s also hitting a hundred points higher than Skinner. Skinner got that HR against LSU, but that’s a rare thing for him

We probably should have Cumbest in the lineup vs lefties at a minimum. We may as well play Keegan at 3rd if Leggett struggles defensively. Kellum Clark’s bat needs to be in the lineup everyday and this has impacted Cumbest, Skinner, & probably even Leggett’s at bats

This is a true post (minus calling James Keegan). The emergence of Kellum Clark has cost Cumbest at bats more than anything else. But now that Leggett has proven not to be the upgrade defensively that we'd hope, it's time to get Kam back out there at third.

I think playing Skinner is an overreaction to wanting to upgrade the defense. I'd probably put Cumbest out there and use Skinner for late inning defense. This is a lineup I'd love to see just once:

Very true - at least James battled.

I'm also curious why Clark hasn't played any 1B. If we are going to sub defensively for Hancock late in the game, then you risk leaving Hatcher to hit cleanup if extras are needed (like today with Hancock's early injury). I'd rather keep Hancock at DH and keep his bat in the lineup just in case.

does anyone want to remind me of how great of a fielding 1B Hatcher is after that drop??? And yes, I realize it was an in between hop. I would say that an average 1b doesn't make that play. but.. a .190 senior 1b that is only playing because he is so magical at defense should make it...
