being closer to family is one of those standard "reasons." Sometimes it's true, sometimes not - but not something anyone can really argue or fault. As I said in a previous post, I think he burned some bridges and Cal is not going to put out anything negative about Marcus.
You're probably right Bkocats. I'd say "being closer to family" may be a consideration, but it's likely quite a ways down the list of reasons he's transferring. Edit: I think the primary reason may be that he got a serious eye opener at the combine and he realized how far he still has to go, and it may take longer than one more year to get there. So, sit a year while working on offense and then play another season somewhere that might give him a shot at being a primary offensive option.

But for anyone who thinks I'm angry or wishing ill on Lee, not a chance. I wish him well. I'm just trying to make sense of this decision, transferring with one year of eligibility and one semester left on his degree.

Wonder how long does he have to get the hours needed to be a grad transfer?

Or he could go DIV II and dominate - the NBA dream will never happen...I could see him shift gears and wind up over in Istanbul.

Kind of sucks, but I wish him well. I think Lee would have been able to flourish next year with Bam on the team.

Bam is a big, strong, physical guy that could have done all the banging and dirty work down low, allowing Lee the freedom to roam and do what he does best; block shots, offensive rebound, put back dunks and catch lobs.

Oh well, hope it works out for him whatever he decides.

So let me get this straight. Lee wants to get to the NBA this year, but realized he can't. So, he's going to transfer, sit out a year, play another year after that???? He won't be able to try again for two years??? What damn kind of sense does that make other than the fact that he doesn't think he can get minutes this season? I think this is a HUGE mistake on his part. Not to mention, he is going to miss out on a title.

Wish he would have returned. Glad to see that he is still going to school.

not to be harsh though. We can spread those five fouls elsewhere.

Thank for your time Marcus! We'll be fine with Bam, Humphries, Wynyard, Willis, Gabriel & SKJ. More room for them to develop their games. Just glad Briscoe is returning! Much needed for depth at guard and he is a damn good player, fix his shot and look out!!!

Too bad. I think he would have had a useful year at Kentucky.

Of the three recent big decision, I rated Briscoe returning the most important by a wide, wide margin, then hoped to get one of either Bolden or Lee. So I'm still mostly pleased now that the smoke has cleared.

AND -- I would not rule out that there is a big man out there (cough-allen-cough) who was waiting to see if minutes would open up after Bolden and Lee decided.

Well said - and wouldn't that be awesome?

No doubt the coaching staff and our fans caused this move. If Lee had his degree, I could understand his wanting to transfer. Mismanagement at the highest level. Also, the way our pathetic fans reacted on this board over dumping Lee for Bolden. How did that work out?

Shame on you Calipari and some of our fans. Yes, you know who you are.

What.....the....hell...

You're too nice. he didn't deserve it. Not near enough posts to build any credibility and then make questionable at best remarks about UK players....
The funny part is that he "liked" your reply back to him.

He has to do what is best for himself and his family. I would never bash a kid that has put so much time in to the community. Possibly more than anyone ever at UK during his time. Good luck Marcus.

Whatever, Marcus.

“There’s whispers every year, just because people feel like they know what’s better for him,” his older brother Bryan Lee told The Courier-Journal on Tuesday. “But as he’s shown each year, he’s completely loyal to Kentucky. ... Just so there’s no confusion, his brother said, there are only two options for Marcus next season: he’ll either be a professional basketball player or a senior at Kentucky

i wifi miss Marcus. His shot- blocking skills, especially last season, were quite memorable. Equally as important though was his community service. He truly was a great ambassor for UK! As another poster said, he will always be BBN and I will miss him and his signature haircut!

Best of luck to Marcus.

Great kid and he just never seemed to get it going here. I really don't think it would have magically happened next season either. He would have had to really improve his game in order to avoid getting a fraction of the minutes he got last season.

IMO this is why he didn't come back and said so to friends. He had a tough year last year and wasn't getting much love from BBN so I think that made the decision. Very predictable and understandable for me.

Lee probably has known this entire time he wasn't coming back to UK. He knows he will get extremely limited minutes next year. He has been consistently recuited over and that's just the way it is. Hell, the only reason he was even contemplating pro ball was due to the Kentucky effect.

Wish Lee luck.

Really could give a rat's *** about Marcus Lee now. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I thought him staying in the draft was the dumbest thing he could do, but lo and behold he found a way to do something even dumber. And no, he didn't redeem himself.

Honestly not a bad move for him. He had zero chance of being drafted this year and his role on next year's team would have been the same as this year. Might have been able to perform better than last year with Bam beside him but he wouldn't have played 30+ minutes or been any sort of feature of the offense. It's likely he'd have been undrafted after another year here too. Good luck to him, and thanks for the contributions to two Final Fours.

Not sure what Lee (or more likely his idiot brother) is thinking.

Sitting out a year and then playing a year will make him 24 years old when he attempts to go to NBA. Highly doubt he will be of any interest to anyone at that point.

what does coming back to UK and playing behind 4 - 5 other players get for him? Lee just isnt that good. its why he's willing to sit out a year try for the NBA later.

First off, everything you said is a bunch of ********. You're only here to stir up crap. Lee wasn't forced to leave. He chose to leave. The person behind his leaving is more than likely his brother. He's been in Lee's ear all along, calling all the shots.

But, for the sake of argument, let's say that Lee is transferring because his feelings were hurt by the fans. Imo, good riddance. If any player is that soft to where they'll go to those lengths because some fans they don't even personally know said some mean things, then I'm not so sure they deserved a scholarship in the first place.

Idiot fans are a part of sports. If someone is not mature enough or man/woman enough to not let it get to them, then it's probably in their best interest to go ahead and quit sports altogether and join the rat race, working a 9-5.

Lol.

Lee is not UK material. Period. Saying he had a tough year is a huge understatement. He had a horrible year by the standards we needed. Cal didn't do that. BBN didn't do that. We've recruited over Lee (which is what good coaches do), and it's not in the cards. Lee is closer to a *150 prospect than a top 100 prospect. He wants playing time where he can get it, and that's at a much smaller program.

Sometime these things are the result of a harsh reality and not the fault of Cal, fans, program, etc.

His age will be an issue, 24-25 year old project? Not in today's NBA.
