LeBron is just trying to win another title or 2 if they somehow went back to back. He wants 6 like Jordan. Jordan lives rent free n his head.
It doesn’t matter how many he wins, he’ll never be on MJ’s level. MJ’s rings are legit, too. He didn’t have to form super teams to win championships. Today’s players are pathetic. I don’t have a problem chasing rings at the end of their careers. But, LBJ was doing it in his prime & has done it for most of his career. And, yet, he still only has 3 after nearly a quarter century.

And, I’ll never understand how he became a part of the GOAT discussion, aside from him willing it into existence. He’s barely in my top 10. He has a case for greatest physical specimen ever. But, best player?! Lmao. Like I said, GOATS don’t admit defeat & chase rings in their prime. And, they don’t go 3-6 in the NBAF.

Personally, I could never rank him ahead of true alphas like MJ, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Kobe or Olajuwon. The 80s era would’ve chewed him up & spit him out. Charmin soft & that flopping bs would never fly then. Philly will definitely be one of the heavy favorites next season. But, it’ll just be another cheap, meaningless ring that he sold his self respect for, if they get him #4. But, who am I kidding? He dgaf HOW he gets a ring.

Every ring won is legit and no ring won is cheap and meaningless. You have your opinion but good lord your post is very cope heavy lol. You're just a fan online. Why do you believe you've got ultimate authority to determine that ring won is legit but this ring won is meaningless? And why doesn't LeBron have self-respect for choosing what he feels is the best option to win?

Just like the 2 rings Kevin Durant got in Golden State.

That’s probably, on paper at least, the best starting 5 of all time. Embiid has to stay healthy though or it won’t matter.

Spoiler: it’s probably not going to matter. Embiid has been in the league 12 season and played more than 60 games only 4 times. Played in more than half the games only 6 times and averages just under 41 games played.

I feel for Sixers fans. Because he’s going to be one of the biggest what ifs of all time. Especially watching guys like Maxey and Edgecomb waste their careers next to him and now probably going to have to see the best starting lineup on paper in history fall short because of it too.

I hope they get it though because i’d like to see Maxey get a ring. Hes way up there among our most likeable former players in recent history.

Maxey is a great dude.

What a strange reply. Lecture me about ultimate authority & in the same paragraph you definitively say that every ring won is legit &…Lol. It’s my OPINION & where did I say anything about authority & that everyone must agree?! Seems like it’s you coping with my opinion more than anything else. What exactly am I coping with? My reasons & criteria for GOAT status are quite valid & clearly stated. It’s cool if those reasons don’t bother you. But, it doesn’t change the facts. He had to have MAJOR help to win. And, he still went 3-6.

That’s how “I” feel about it & not one time did I speak for anyone else or declare it to be the law. It apparently hurt your feelings, though 🤣. I do see a HUGE difference in the legitimacy of certain championships. IN MY OPINION it is pathetically weak for a top 5 player in the world to chase rings in their prime. You’re apparently good with that.

I don’t even really acknowledge those rings. ME. That doesn’t mean that now NO ONE can appreciate them. Got it? In fact, if I was an elite player, I’d rather not win a ring if I had to do it that way. How many has he won without being on a super team? If you have to construct an all-star team to reach the top, as a top 5 player, you aren’t the GOAT or even the best CURRENT player & the ring is tainted. It makes you more of a beta bit*h than anything. IN MY OPINION. What is so hard to understand?

Why are you so emotional about this and why are you capitalizing random words? It sounds silly seeing someone rant about the guy's every move and say his rings are meaningless and he's selling his self-respect away. How exactly? No athlete in his position would choose the worst team or a team that likely has no shot at a title.

True or false: The goal of any NBA player is to win as many world championships during their career as possible.
True or false: LeBron won his rings legitimately and without cheating the NBA, the system, or whatever you want to call it.

Lastly, I don't know why you're so focused on this alpha and beta thing. One of us is calm, the other sounds emotional and erratic. LeBron chose a final team to play for and is built like a statue at 41 and you're well, acting how you're acting while calling everyone beta and seemingly wishing you were surrounded by alpha manly men. Take a multivitamin, drink some apple juice, and run a couple laps. I promise you things will be okay lol.

I'm a little surprised; I expected him to go back to Cleveland. Philly isn't the lock some seem to think; it's been a long time since Embiid played 40 games in a season and Lebron's workload will be managed.
Thats exactly why you go to Philly if you’re LeBron. You have 3 young horses to carry the team through 82 games, and LeBron and Embiid can float in and out of the lineup and work towards being full throttle for the playoffs.

I am still forming a real opinion on this but the more I think about him there the more sense it actually makes. And I didn't really think myself, nor hear anyone else really even consider, Philly as the destination for him.

I hope he does well there and makes things even better for the league. Any improvement is good improvement. Bigger and better storylines for everyone. Then there's to consider, if it flops it might even be a bigger story. Who known how it will turn out or what will happen.

Sure didn't see it coming though.

Oldheads would never admit LBJ is the goat, mainly because nostalgia. With that being said, this ring chasing is pretty disgusting to watch. The NBA sucks *** and this is one of the main reasons. No rivalries or loyalty anymore. It's just follow your favorite players, in a rotation of jerseys. Who cares about the teams?

Fans of those teams? Every sport has bandwagoners but you're making it sound as though a majority of NBA fans are switching teams every few years. I don't believe that happens.

Once again, I don't see how trying to win titles on a few teams in a long career is "disgusting to watch." There's no rule that once on a team, you must stay in place for your entire career or a decade or longer. The goal is to get to the top as many times as you can, not for LeBron to be forever loyal to say, the Cavs and be forced to make that work for decades. I just want to know where this emotion comes from that if an elite athlete switches to another team for a better chance at a ring, then by god that's terrible and disgusting. How? Lol. You play the game to win.

Talking about the players. Keep your revolver in your holster next time, Sheriff. You don't see the weakness in going to a loaded team? The disgust comes from tradition. Do you not remember the reaction to KD going to the warriors?

Don’t agree with this. There are plenty of people pre-Jordan era that say Jordan is the GOAT. Almost every major credited poll I’ve ever seen has Jordan #1 and either Kareem or LeBron #2. We used to agree on this, as I was as big a LeBron fan as there is, but facts don’t support LeBron being the best. You can try to steal a victory by counting volume stats or you can try to press the combination for Konami code and win by saying the NBA today is better, therefore LeBron is the GOAT…..but no one seriously comparing this objectively can say LBJ dominated his peers the way Jordan did. You were born in either 90 or 91 — and you didn’t get to see Jordan in his prime. You get highlights and out-of-context YouTube rewatches. Hoop heads that have been around know what they saw. Is there opinion to this? Of course, no one can take away YOUR personal GOAT. But when people start talking about this in the third person, LeBron will retire as second (which is still phenomenal) in the eyes of the public.

Who’s being emotional? I’m not the one racing to white knight for LBJ, lol. It’s called emphasis so you can understand the difference between opinion & absolutes. You seemed to be struggling to separate the 2 & appeared to need some help. But, I’m probably a little snarky bc I don’t like condescension & veiled insults from ppl who wouldn’t dare speak that way in person.

I called everyone beta? Or just LBJ & the other lame ring chasers? I’m not surprised that you love it. I’ve seen your political posts. You support the ppl who want men in women’s’ sports, so, it’s no shock that you celebrate cheap championships. It also makes it pretty rich for you to be throwing around gay innuendo insults. So, take your hormone pills, drink some *****, throw on some lingerie & go read to a toddler.

As for the actual topic, it doesn’t bother me as much when guys are at the end of their careers like LBJ is now. But, he’s chased rings his entire career, so, I don’t give him the same grace I did for Barkley, Malone, Payton, etc. Of course their goal is a championship. But, there’s a cheap way & the right way.

But, I don’t hold every player to that standard. Only guys who are all time greats, or, top 5 type players, in their prime. That bs didn’t start til like 2008 but it’s been rampant ever since. When a supposed GOAT has to assemble an all star team to get his rings, it diminishes it, IMO. It’s weak af. There’s a difference between going to a good team & assembling a machine.

GOATS don’t do that, historically. And, with LBJ it’s even worse bc he’s an egomaniac who proclaims himself as the GOAT. And, desperately, wants to be MJ so bad he can’t stand it & will absolutely use his cheap rings as criteria to compare himself with MJ. Why are you so worried about my opinion?

In the end, idgaf. I’m not a fan of LBJ, MJ or the Bulls. I’m a Hawks fan with no allegiance to anyone involved. I’m just making observations. Hilarious that you call me emotional when the entire reason I’m stuck in this back & forth is bc you got your feelings hurt bc someone dared to question LBJ 🤣.

I’ve yet to see a single nuanced thing from that guy so I wouldn’t worry about it. Most of everyone else on earth is a mouth-breather except for him. On every single topic. Best leave him be. I was warned about him before and tried to be friendly. Over time, it became clear that he’s objectively correct about everything and speaks in absolutes.

Oh good lord grow up. We had a disagreement over pro wrestling of all things and now you're doing a "I was warned about him!" schtick. If you want to talk, let's talk. But please don't do an immature 'interrupt a conversation to talk about him as if this is behind his back on a message board' middle school routine. I know that's beneath you. Who’s being emotional?
You in previous posts. When you capitalize random words for effect and say an athlete's rings are meaningless and he has no self-respect as if this is personal between you and the player, you're being a bit emotional over a man's decision. I'm not saying you gotta agree with it but you did seem a tad upset, no? You're saying you don't care and have no dog in it but you've written about 12 paragraphs on the subject so you do care. It's all the traits of a Facebook post really. The over the top emotion, false claims like what he's done shouldn't matter, very random words capitalized, seemingly taking his decision personally while also saying you don't care, claiming out of the blue this successful athlete with several rings lacks self-respect, etc.

We can just agree to disagree though unless you've got another seven paragraphs about him going to Philly doesn't matter to you lol. Rafters will never not be weird about LeBron James.

Nostalgia goggles are hard to take off. When Lebron came back down 3-1 against a 73 win warriors team, that solidified him as the GOAT, imo.

Why would you bring politics up in a thread about LeBron choosing Philly? That's out of nowhere. If you're baiting I'm not taking it.

Best advice I can give you is put me on ignore if feelings were hurt over men grappling in colorful outfits. All I'm saying is don't be middle school about it and pretend this is West Side Story, me on one side and you on the other and anyone I have a conversation with needs to be warned by you. No one here cares if we disagreed about something in a thread about pro wrestling and the fact you let that goofiness bleed into another thread is out there to say the least lol.

MJ: The Chicago Bulls were built through the draft, GOAT head coach, and a smart GM. No one in their prime was coming to Cleveland and LeBron was keeping the Cavaliers outside of the lottery with success.

Magic: joined the Lakers with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Norm Nixon, and Jamaal Wilkes already on the team. He also requested to be traded early in his career because he didn’t like the head coach.

Kobe: joined with Shaq and several other all-stars already on the roster. He was also given plenty of time to improve and develop after being drafted straight out of high school at age 18. Keep in mind, he also made a trade request because the Lakers weren't getting any other stars after Shaq left.

A bit of credit to Draymond
Very true. I don’t discredit that title ultimately though. It was very impressive. As a Cavs fan, I’m ecstatic about that title.

Gotta talk about Miami too though.

Joining a team with Wade and Bosh should have resulted in more titles and I do count that against LeBron. When they joined forces, he predicted “not one, not two, not three, not four…” and they won only two. 2011 was one of the most embarrassing finals performances I’ve ever seen by a “best player in the league” level guy. People love to raise 2016 for GOAT candidacy. Others like to raise 2011 for dismissing LeBron. I think both Finals should be considered heavily. As should the 2010 choke job that led to him needing to find a winning team. He’s not a GOAT, he’s a flawed but unstoppable player at his apex who made passing cool and I respect that. People who act like there’s something wrong with ranking him #2 puzzle me — it really is a compliment. Basketball fandom as a whole have spoken — he’s closer to #3 than he is to #1. That’s fine.

That’s fine.

oh I don’t discredit it either. Game 5 was a pivotal game though. Doesn’t mean the Warriors would have won even if he did play but it didn’t help.

No, others are agreeing with me. LeBron has a jordan complex.

Hes never gonna be as good as Jordan. Hes not as clutch.
This will forever be a hot debate.
LeBron has more than twice as many rebounds and assists than Jordan and has scored more than 30% more points. But the real difference is that Jordan could have never taken the 2007 Cavs to the Finals.

Counting stats. Not a good way to measure greatness.

Sure, it tells us LeBron had peak longevity, which is amazing. But that doesn’t mean he was a better player.

If you use that type of methodology, you’d rank P.J. Brown above Bill Walton.

Michael Jordan has the most comprehensive case in the GOAT debate. He’s supported by actual facts rather than stat totals that ignore averages, treating second place finishes as pseudo-championships, downplaying the competitive factor of team-hopping, ignoring the factor of dominance over your own peers, or hypotheticals that are entirely untestable.

I can’t take away anyone’s personal GOATS — they are yours. But I don’t see a GOAT debate. I see a preference debate. LeBron people want him to be a GOAT. Many who hate MJ still know where he is in the pecking order.

The GOAT acronym is exactly that, all-time. Not some moment or season in time. It’s not determined by averages or even Championships. LeBron James already has surpassed Kareem by 5,000 career points and has over 12,000 assists and rebounds. He’s been in the league 21 seasons without a whiff of controversy.
GOAT is subjective, but I’m confident with LBJ.

Yeah. It’s GREATEST of all time, not who amassed the most stats all time. Like I said, if you judge that way PJ Brown is above Bill Walton in the pecking order. LeBron really doesn’t have a very strong case for GOAT. Counting stats instead of rings, clunky hypotheticals and bad faith era comparisons.

Umm …the obvious reason for that is Lebron has played 22 seasons and has had freakishly good luck staying healthy throughout his career (I swear, the dude’s body must be made of titanium). Whereas Jordan really only played 10 full seasons during his Bulls run (thanks to missing nearly all of the 86 injury season and the two baseball/retirement seasons at his peak in 94 and 95).

Comparing career totals has always been a terrible way of analyzing this question, as it leads to wildly misleading results. Obviously any player who plays WAY more games than another is gonna end up with the higher totals, but that sure as hell doesn’t mean he was the better player. There’s a lot of mediocre players who rank misleadingly high in total counts simply because they hung around for a long time, and there’s a lot of great players who rank misleadingly low. And total counts also tend to be biased in favor of the modern era because, thanks to medical science and other factors, today’s stars simply have longer careers on average than they did in the past.

I watched both Jordan and LeBron’s careers from beginning to end. And the best player I’ve ever seen was absolutely Michael Jordan. He may not have lasted nearly as long as Lebron, but nobody was ever better in his prime than MJ.

The word “politics” is “brining up politics? Grow up.
