That’s where Cal, Coach K etc could have issues. You take AD, Zion, Wall, Towns etc knowing full well they are leaving in six months. You pass on kids like Boston. But the problem is even though no one thought Boston would be at those players’ levels, no one in the right mind thought Boston would have the terrible year he did. It’s going to be a tight rope these coaches walk in trying to figure out which top ten players to take without actually seeing them at the college level. It will help having upperclassmen lead the way though.I agree, but here's what's good about that, bringing in a Terrence Clarke or a Kevin Knox type player will work, but only if you add them to a veteran group.
I like to use Gonzaga 2021 as an example. They added Suggs and Ballo to one hell of a roster and everyone looks great. He only has to do his job and not carry the load.
Timme, Kispert, Nembhard, Ayayi and Cook carry equal parts of it. I think Cal could do really well with that situation, as long as everyone on the roster understands what their roles are.
If Hardy wants to come to UK next year, Cal has to take him. Hell, no matter what the situation, you take Hardy, he's a high IQ kid that could be transcendent.
It has to be predicated on roster fit...if you've got a junior nazr mohammad, a sophomore jamaal magloire, and a freshman nick richards on your roster, you pass on Cousins and look to add the superior wing/pg into an area of relative weakness. You can't just go for the highest rated player and plug them into a roster that's stout at his position w/out causing discourse and dissension. That’s where Cal, Coach K etc could have issues. Do away with pro day. How stupid. Does the school of engineering help their students land jobs, meet with potential employers? Players do come first. Period.I truly hope you are right for the good of the program. It’s no secret that Cal lost me with that act at Florida. My love for UK basketball far out weighs my disdain for Calipari. If he can change and for all the right reasons. I can over look his politics. First thing he needs to change is to do away with pro day, second stop with the “players first” crap, retain players that need to stay.
You may be right, but you're also frustrated and angry, which means you likely wouldn't believe him if he were hooked up to a lie detector. What he's saying right now is what I was thinking he was going to do. He might be motivated by pride and hating people's criticism. He may just be motivated by his competitive nature and hating to lose. He may be motivated because he feels like he failed the guys on the team this season. Whatever his motivation, I expect him to make whatever changes are needed for this kind of thing to never happen again. And he's saying the right things here, which is good.
If it were me, I would avoid going after any top 10 kid that isn't a sure fire game changer. But the way things are going, those guys are skipping college anyway. That’s where Cal, Coach K etc could have issues. Sorry, you're wrong. The only way to fix the issues here, is to change the culture. You can't say you're going to change the culture, but continue to do pre season pro days, where you're showcasing your players to NBA GM's. That culture needs to end.Do away with pro day. How stupid. Great post. I worry about this too.Personally I don’t feel Calipari is lying, I think he means and believes what he’s saying as he says it. To put it bluntly however, I suspect his mouth is writing checks that he just won’t be able to bring himself to cash.
It’s a bit like a druggie telling his parents he’s going to come clean after this one last loan. He probably means it in the moment, but when the bad habits and chemicals in his brain kick in, history tends to tragically repeat itself.
And honestly we all do that to ourselves sometimes, saying we’ll do things that we’re not really capable of doing. Cal is just more overconfident, talkative and does more public speaking than the average bear.
Hahah yeah.
Sarr is an excellent example. His 2 point jumper % was 38 while his 3 FG% was 44.4%. We would have had so many better possessions through the course of the season if Sarr took 40% of his shots from 3 rather than just 13%.

I don't think he forgot how important it is, but I think he's tried to be supportive of his players and wanting them to go on to their dreams so bad that sometimes he might have slightly sugar coated things. Some players had injury issues and needed to leave, others probably got bad information. He needs to be more stern with them.If Cal goes back to building rosters the way he used to and mix in a few one and done players, I think we will win more games and most fans would be happy. Cals best teams before he came to Kentucky were veteran teams. His Umass team gave my favorite UK team their first loss of the season in 96. My biggest criticism of cal has always been devaluing veteran leadership. If he does as he says he will, I think it would be great.
Nothing Cal says is going to be good enough or the right answer for some of the clowns on here.
Ha Ha!
That was you for the first few years of your existence here - always bashing Cal. Then you realized you could be a contrarian by defending him this year. When UK is good again, you'll go right back to attacking Cal again.
You're one of the weirdest posters here!
1000% untrue. I would criticize Cal for in game things for sure. But I have never bashed him, never been a Cal hater and never called for him to leave.
Go find one example of me doing so and I’ll pay you whatever you want.

Others schools do it. Kentucky’s is just televised.Sorry, you're wrong. The only way to fix the issues here, is to change the culture. 3 and 4 year players have no business doing pre season pro days.
Do you see Villanova, Baylor, Gonzaga, Michigan and Virginia doing pro days? This is a college program, not an NBA farm system, or at least it's supposed to be a college program.
Other schools do what? Who?Others schools do it. Kentucky’s is just televised.
The big word is humble there. Didn't listen but the run down sure had hints of that. The biggest sign was his shout out to Tom. He rarely even acknowledged Tom by name the past several years evcwhen Tom signed off with a "good luck coach". Cal would just say "yeah ok". Seemed to be thinking a little more outside himself for this.If he does what he says, then it will be fine. He has to change though. I’m happy he’s admitting it and has humbled himself.
Cal needs friends right now. Even someone with his ability to let stuff roll off his back, needs to lean on people sometimes. The big word is humble there. I think he can keep those, but for some players the "players first" advice is you need 3 to 4 years. You may never make it in the NBA but you can have a career in KY when it's time to hang it up. You want your coach to care about you. Some need tough love but it's just that, love. Hope we pick up Reed when he graduatesI truly hope you are right for the good of the program. It’s a good sign, it means losing bothers him enough to be humbled.
