He always played at 100% when he was here, so I do respect that. He’s another recent recruit where I have no idea how all the talent evaluators missed so badly on him though. Supposedly one of the top big men in his class, and he basically can’t put the ball in the basket unless he’s dunking it, and isn’t really an overwhelming rebounder or shot blocker to make up for it.

I mean look at Bradshaw. I have to wonder if Cal and crew even watch these players play and just go off the star rating.

I actually wish he never transferred and was content being a role player. Reminds me of an old school Tubby player who stayed 4 years and gradually progressed.

But if he made 350k going to Nova, can't blame him. Someone will pick him up

I was surprised at his lack of skill when he got here.

Not near a 3 skill player. Plenty of tri state guys around with more bball iq and bball skill. Just had the stars by his name.

He did not improve his offensive reportoire from the first to last year at Kentucky. Literally not even a back to basket move. Seems like a good young man, but I think he is just coasting.
He actually had very good footwork just for some reason could not make shot of any kind including layups. Couldn’t make FTs either. Hard to figure. Did no one ever work with him or was he just not into improving?

is on the move again....should have went to a mid major last year...played about the same minutes at Villanova as he did here....

So it wasn’t just Cal who didn’t think he was very valuable. I honestly would have rather had his toughness in the post this year the way our 7 footers of suck we used.

Interesting how all 3 of our Camden HS recruits in recent years have been very overrated.
This is crazy, I don’t think DJ is that over rated. It was a weak class. He’s not gonna be a great pro and that was always a question but he can be a very good college player. Bradshaw I don’t know about, he had a couple games but he needs strength in the worst way. Some big guys take 2-3 years to play up to their potential.

Lance got the most out of his limited ability.,I liked him, thought he wasn’t intimidated on the court. He will make a good coach one day if he decides on that path. My thought for him from a basketball standpoint is to drop down a notch and get some playing time at the D2 level.

He tried hard but he was absolutely horrible. I have no idea how he got his ranking out of high school.
watching him in high school it was easy to see that he wasn't going to be much use to UK.
It's the same with Bradshaw & Ugo. Just isn't much talent to work with

Yeah but sometimes they develop right into that Sheeeray Thomas, Bobby Perry, Ramon Harris type of player which is fine at other programs but at UK those guys played way to many mins for us to be successful. They would never see the floor or get a fair chance with Cal as coach.

We have another next year. I disagree about Bradshaw though, he isn’t what I hoped in his first and probably only year here but I do think he is very talented and will be fine.

I can't believe he got as much clock here as he did. Seemed likable enough though.
Our MORON coach started this guy several times .. He couldn't start at many schools in the OVC . He tried hard . Thats about all I got . What is with Cal starting thats near 100% guarantee that we wont start the game off Ewell.

Agreed. If you could Wagner and Bradshaw to commit to working on their games and being patient and sticking around for 2-4 years I could get more excited about the future. As it stands I expect everyone to bolt.

You should get more out of the #2 high school player in the nation that what he gave us. Definitely overrated coming out of high school.
He showed flashes, every class isn't created the same. He will be very good this year wherever he ends up.

Not sure I ever realized he was a 4 star. I mean can evaluators be any worse? I would venture to guess that the majority of college players who end up being great college players were probably 3 star rated coming out of high school.

Everyone develops at their own rate. In high school, most of what we're seeing are PROJECTIONS of what experts think players could become, not what they are. The problem is some have already reached close to their max potential, while others are just getting starting. Add other factors like motivation, opportunity, home life, coaching, etc. and its easy to see why the NBA whiffs on high school draft picks as often as they do. Its never going to be an exact science.

Its also why kids HAVE to go pro when their stock is highest. Every year you wait and play college ball, your real value comes more in focus, hence your draft stock is more accurate. For a late bloomer that waits and improves, thats good. For a high potential guy that never reaches that potential (most), waiting means not cashing their lottery ticket. The trouble is, as a player you have to make that decision before you know what you are. Plus, NBA GMs have no discipline and nobody wants to pass on the next MJ.

Camden guys I know of that played at UofL, Memphis, or Kentucky

Milt Wagner
Billy Thompson
Kevin Walls
Dajuan Wagner SR
Arthur Barclay (DW SR's best friend)
Lance Ware
DJ Wagner
Aaron Bradshaw

DJ would've been better served going to Prep school for a year seeing how he's only 18 now--think him staying a Soph year is good for his development--if he's utilized correctly and can handle the truth about his game.

Milt and Billy were obviously great. Walls was injured but proved to be a bust. Dajuan Sr was good-but not the guy they projected him to be due to lacking the elite speed. He wasn't AIlen Iverson 2.0. Barclay was brought in to help get him to Memphis. Ware was brought in due to connections to Cal through a good friend of his/Camden guy to help get the latter 2.

Derrick Ramsey is probably UK’s greatest athlete from Camden. Played a year of bball, and killed it on the football field.

NBA would be so smart to make it a 2 year rule in college... unfortunately I think it's more likely they return to the 18 age limit than 20.
