KU takes yet ANOTHER transfer

Well I guess they think they can take these guys who have shown something in college and can mesh them together into a good team. Experienced guys who are not one and done. Will have a year of coaching under their belt while sitting out and should be meshed together as a team by the time they are ready to hit the hardwood.

It does seem like a very high number of transfers. It's almost like Self is substituting signing 3 or 4 star guys out of high school, and instead targeting guys who've performed well at the college level to play with the 3 or 4 blue chippers they usually have?

I guess there's no reason why you couldn't make it a recruiting strategy? For the guys who transfer that have to sit a year, the downside of not being immediately available is negated by the opportunity to work those guys into the system and give them an entire year to become familiar with playing in it and improving their game?

I mean, it's an odd turn of events that they've loaded up with so many transfers, but I guess it's Self's prerogative?

I've never seen anyone start a thread titled:
UK takes yet ANOTHER one-&-done.

Even though people around here have begun to question the effectiveness of constantly having the majority of the roster turn over and being a perpetually inexperienced & young team.

By the way, brilliant strategy by Self. If you take the best players off of all the mid majors, they can't beat you in the tournament.

I don't think he was William & Mary's best player and I don't think they'll make the tournament, but he's a Jayhawk now damnit

I actually like the idea of getting a graduate transfer as a way to build some depth/experience. Makes sense.

It IS quite embarrassing actually.. A supposed blue blood program can't recruit well enough to field a team, so they have to rely on 3-star talent to transfer and play an extra year.

It may work, adding all these transfers.. but jeez, kind of pathetic.

I totally agree with you Gonzo, but they can only take so many. There is probably at least 10 or 12 mid-majors capable of beating Kansas the first weekend next year. I bet Kansas fans hope Self sign's the right ones.

Actually not a bad strategy to some degree, some of the mid-major players are very talented players that have borderline grades in high school, but a couple of years of basketball experience along with classroom time to improve grades can get them into a better/bigger school.

They had very little depth. They add a body and it doesn't cost them anything.
True.. and they probably aren't a 1 seed without big stretches from Coleby in for Lucas.
It can't hurt having the starters going up against that size, strength, and experience every day in practice. It may be part of the reason KU starts out strong MOST years (though it does lower their ceiling), while takes us a while to catch up.

e.g. Cam Johnson from Pitt, hopefully to UK... I'll take those 2 years, doesn't have to sit out, and 43% from three.

I'm guessing either Svi is gone or Lightfoot is forced out.

Think about the year Kansas just had and this might be a way to change the culture. Instead of bringing in young unproven kids who have had a lot of off court problems at Kansas lets try a different approach and bring in some pretty talented kids that still have room to grow and have a clear past at the school they came from. I wouldn't be surprised if Bill wasn't feeling a little heat out of all the bad publicity lately from his players and was told something has to change.
