Sounds like some of our fans put the cart before the horse in this one. Looking like a return to Illinois is the choice.

Yep it sure does. Either that or he had a change of heart. One of the oddest things I’ve ever seen.
I would certainly rather have him than not, but we will be fine either way. On the bright side, don't have to worry about Oscar not being happy, less questions about floor spacing, more playing time for Collins to develop throughout the year, more minutes for Toppin to reach his upside we all see, etc.

I don't think Duren is a must get necessarily but everything has to work out perfectly in the frontcourt for Kentucky to be a contender.

Not having Duren or Cockburn makes the margin for error really tight. Also you have the fact that Jalen Duren could be the kind of player who really defines the first part of the NIL era for some program in the same way Rose, Wall, and Davis did with the one-and-done era.

Would have been nice to have the guy. Would have added to the already deep bench.

But, we were happy with our roster before we thought there was a possibility of adding either Cockburn or Duren. That shouldn't change if we don't land either of them.

Not good. Cal has to manage his roster. He gets paid millions to deal with egos and make it work. Time to man up and do his job.
"deals with egos and make it work"
yeah because he has never had to that before...
man up and do his job... smh

maybe may sarcasm meter is broken this morning

Don't think Oscar would be OK with that. He didn't come here to be a bench player playing 10-15mpg. Unfortunately, Collins is the odd man out. He's just going to have to wait his turn. Although, he can still get some PF minutes if we struggle with Kofi/Oscar playing together.
Oscar average 25 minutes per game last year. He tends to be prone to getting a lot of fouls. It actually makes perfect sense to have another big back him up. Ironically Kofi averaged around 24 minutes per game himself. It’s actually a perfect fit

Oscar wasn't happy with his 25 mpg last year or the way he was used. And I'm sure Kofi, who is dying to get to the NBA, is looking for his minutes and usage to increase.

Unfortunately "potential foul trouble" isn't a guarantee for a recruit. It might work some games, but not others. I think Kofi and Oscar sharing the 5 was a tough sell.

Illinois to Kofi - "Look, you can do whatever the hell you want to in your preparation for the NBA. Whatever the hell you want. The floor is yours." UK/Cal can't in good faith say that to him.

When Oscar is in foul trouble and Lance Ware is being counted on you might regret not getting him.

Maybe. Id love to have 13 of the best 13 college players in a given year. We'd love to have KAT and AD and Cousins on the same team, right?

But that's not what they want. There's a reason top recruits go to places that can afford them minutes., and not to places where they see 18 minutues or being way down on the bench There's a reason why there's only a handful of recruiting classes that have multiple top10 guys go to the same college.

I was talking more about that crazy story that Cal didn't even speak to Kofi and wasn't interested in him.

That I have no idea about. I'd hope we'd have interest.

But I've questioned this play for weeks now, never saying it CAN'T work, just that I had my doubts. And if we don't get Kofi, I guess that stings a bit.. but it also shifts everyone up a bit in position, and we'll see more minutes for wings and PFs.
