Tragic. There’s a lot to be happy about today. But what a loss for the world. I’m going to take it easy for a couple of days on the smack. Hug the people you love and cherish life.

What in the world?
Awful...

I still have not seen anything confirming the report. This is something all of the major networks would have interrupted their programming to cover. ESPN’s ticker would have been nothing but their breaking news.

I’m going to temper any reaction until a news outlet outside of TMZ confirms as well. I’m not saying TMZ is wrong but until it is confirmed, let’s temper reaction (the UK news link is probably going off of TMZs report). LA PD is only reporting a helicopter crash.

I just now saw confirmation from CBS sports. That sucks. I remember when Thurman Munson died in the plan crash in the late 70s and early 80’s. I hated the Yankees with a passion but I remember feeling awful about that (I was also 8 or 9). Life is fleeting.

Life is too short. You need to go out there and do the things you have dreamed of so that when it is your time you won’t have any regrets.

Just awful news. There’s a bunch of awful takes out there right now. Lots of people talking about his rape trial. I believe Fox radio is trying to decide if Kone’s is the most devastating accidental death and comparing it to other guys.

Can you just mourn a legend and have him be the story and not have to compare it with “who’s death was most devastating?” In most cases, any death, especially sudden, is devastating to someone. A brother, a sister, a mother, a father. Being famous doesn’t make your death any more devastating.

It’s tragic. Not because he was a basketball superstar. Because he has a wife and 2 other daughters who will now grow up and live the rest of their lives without their husband and dad.

I’m sure the surviving Bryant family is having an awful time. Especially because of the loss of both the their daughter / sister and Kobe. One silver lining for them though, is that they had a caring father / husband who worked his butt off to provide the best life he could for them. They will all be amply taken care of for the rest of their lives and I’m sure they will remain part of a basketball community that is outpouring grief and sympathy to them for years to come.
