Ok, let me be clear. I have never liked the OAD, and I will never like it. I have come to accept it as that was the route Cal chose. I can live with it as long as he gets the right mix of talent. THAT IS NOT HAPPENING NOW. If Cal insists on the OAD, then he better be getting the top recruits, and he is not. Even the 4 stars won't stay around more than 2 years, before transferring out, so you have a constant turnover each year, this is what is bringing fans down.
I already knew I was right before you affirmed it entirely, the group that never liked it have tried to be jerks the entire time except when they couldn’t. It’s fine as there’s nothing you can do about it until Cal retires and the next coach delivers multi year players.

I just wish his Dad wouldn't have gotten all of our hope up.

Good luck Kevin.
Don't mind that at all. Believe his Dad was genuinely privately hoping his son would consider another year. So take it as a compliment and nothing but good will towards BBN they were giving that a real consideration.

His Dad could have waited until AFTER Kevin announced to tell all of us how much they all struggled with the decision. It would have caused NO ONE to hold ANY contempt for way he portrayed it. JMHO

I wish nothing but the best for Kevin and his family from here on out.

You should blame Mike Pratt. He’s the person solely responsible for bringing the players first/OAD approach to the program.

Have any of you figured out that the recruits have changed. With LeBron screaming you are getting screwed if you go to college for a year and you are OAD. You are being used, basically a modern slave on the new plantation, College Campuses. That he has spurned Cal specifically when Cal had the gall to turn him Down. That Bron and a lot of sports media, different platforms are pushing a narrative that as a young POC, you are constantly being exploited, that being a young black male that you aren't considered equal in the eyes of everyday white America.
Now we have the Been Simmons, DeAndre Aytons, Bagley, Bamba, Trae Young's who not even wait til the ink dries for next day paper to announce they are heading to the NBA.
College Basketball is under attack. All the scandals, the backdoor payments, the aau Nike machine making a mockery of amateurism. Players and families and their circle expecting something in return for influence. Yes it had existed. Now if you are a four star with enough hype you can put yourself in the position to make millions within a couple years. The game has changed, a change is needed.
NCAA's greed has caught up with them and a reckoning is happening.
What's next ppv big university exhibitions.
One that doesnt count against record of say pUKe vs UK best of five series. Like a playoff series all for 199.99 .imagine ticket sales.
It's only gonna get worse until it's addressed. The players association will be meeting for collective bargaining. I don't know how to fix
Condeleeza Rice was hired to figure it out. Guess we should enjoy what we can while we can. Rant over

And here I am with no hurt feelings at all because like I said the other day I wouldnt allow hope to enter my brain....... sorry you guys had to fall for the carrot on the string again but you all should know how PR works... Sr. says things to get buzz going and suspense.....

As far as the talk about Cal trying to get him to stay........ LOL.. not buying it for a second. Cal might of said some of it but never in a serious pitch because he'll never abandon his principles by putting pressure on these kids to return.

Well he was our leading scorer (both overall points and per game average) so this one is not at all a surprise. It's sad to see him go but I wish him the best.

I am not upset that Knox left. I felt like we would lose Knox, Diallo, SGA, all along, with losing another 2/3 for various other reasons. Tai is gone, so we are at 2 now.

Our NBA guys are coming into their own now-we are the future of the NBA. The most significant benefits of 1NDone haven’t been realized yet. UK will be in the news on the NBA and NCAA front for many years to come. 12-15 year old kids are watching Wall, Davis, Cousing and Towns just like we watched Jordan, Magic and Bird. It’s marketing 101 guys-UK will get kids because of the NBA and the connection to our players.

Why is the only definition of players first for you that there only be instant gratification.
Is it impossible that Cal's best assessment for Knox is that another year sets him up better long term?

I think another season could mean POY potential and even a legitimate shot at being a top 3 pick. More maturity physically and mentally. Improvement in weaker areas as well as greater consistency meaning he can have a better opportunity to have quicker impact and fatten that 2nd contract?
He could also blow out a knee.

If a person playing basketball for UK isnt there to entertain the fans by playing...Then what the heck are they there for..Without the fans there would be NO UK basketball..
A lot of them wouldn’t be here at all if they didn’t have to be. You owe them a lot more than they owe you.

So you agree that Cal knew he was leaving and everyone fed us BS so it looked like Cal was actually trying to work for the university who pays him?
So Knox deciding to leave means he was never considering coming back and that Cal didn’t think he could benefit from returning?

The real fans of UK have lost enthusiasm since the choke job in 2015. Whether the CSF agree or not, the facts are there.

That loss will forever haunt me but “most fans” haven’t lost any enthusiasm. Just look our #1 attendance (again) how well we traveled to the SEC tourney / NCAA tourney THIS year... which was a “down year”
How active this board still is. Enthusiasm is still very much prevalent despite you making obscure “fact claims”

You can think that, but then don’t get upset when the kids act in their own self-interest.

I don't.

I think they should be paid. However, I don't owe them anything. I do far more good for society on a daily basis than athletes. Athletics is for fun. Some of us work in real world.

Genuine question. List 3 coaches that UK could feasibly get , that would satisfy you.

Remember, if we fire Cal, now for example, which coach is going to come here with the pressure of possibly being fired after leading our program to multiple FF’s and a title and legitimately one of if not our best run in 100 years.

Nobody is firing Cal.

However, Cal has reached a point where his methods should be questioned. It ain't working as well as it was.

I never bought the BS from Cal or the media. IMO, Cal is hearing that the fans are getting weary of all the OAD's and team turnover, and was trying to put out the impression that he tries to get them to stay, not buying it.

Not buying what ? I don’t understand.
As @morgousky @brianpoe myself even... and many others have touched on I truly believe Cal is trying to “tweak” his style to have more roster stability.
So... people ***** when we have to many O&D’s ( understandable but it’s the nature of the landscape today) yet still ***** when Cal tries to get some guys to return?
It’s as if nothing will make some fans happy. Cal is the best we have and can get right now. No doubt about it. So why not , based on all the success he’s given us, give him the benefit of the doubt and let him do his thing?
Are we really going to be the king of college basketball by FIRING every coach that doesn’t win multiple titles in 10 years ? Because that rarely happens.
Where does this “we should be winning titles every year” come from? We’ve NEVER been the sure fire top team year in and year out. Maybe half a century ago during the Rupp years?
Most years Cal has us in the discussion for s legit FF/ Title run. That’s pretty good and we’re very lucky
Idk man. That doesn’t seem very fair to have negative feelings for Cal based on something you “think” he did/said/felt...

I agree, some tuneups / tweaks need to be made for sure. Absolutely , however many on this board have said they’d like to fire/ replace Cal.
Do you believe we should win a title every year? A FF should be every single year ? What is “good enough” a FF every other year ?

Is a FF multiple times in 9 years not good enough?

As of this most recent “down” season we were 2 years removed from a FF/ 38-1 team... 3 years from a title runner up...

knox is a good player and has the frame and all that. his best attribute is shooting over people. he had some monster games and he has a great demeanor. he has a pretty game to watch.

but he doesn’t have an aggressive game. he’s pretty slow. he will have to play like booker or reggie miller in the nba where he works hard to get any kind of opening to shoot. i think he’ll do it and be a great player. his team will have to help him get open though. he’s not a bailout shooter because besides a crossover he doesn’t have a handle and doesn’t shoot of balance although he can shoot off a dribble. he’s a one on one player that needs to get the ball when he’s open to at least be able to fake a drive to set up a shot. and that’s enough. notice though he didn’t drive all year.

in the nba where there’s space teams will get him open. but we couldn’t even get him open the final play against kstate. and a college team can deny him passing through screens because there’s no back door option. they started playing us between the ball and him on the baseline which forced him to post up then reset facing the basket. they played between him and the ball that final play. he’s also not a great rebounder or defender. uk was slow in general this year.

this isn’t sour grapes. i was talking about this before the season started with my brother who posts here sometimes. i didn’t imagine what cal would do offensively with this team and frankly i was pleasently surprised how it worked out. he definitely showcased his game positively.

but i wouldn’t be crying for his leaving. first of all it was expected and secondly he played well enough and deserves it. his game is suited for the nba. would love any player good enough to be drafted come back again but couldn’t see it anyway. we’ll be fine next year.

glad he came to uk and wish him the best on the next level. he seems like a great person.

Stop being obtuse. There is a downward trend that requires change. And no indication of change is observable.

So, can’t answer the questions eh? Got it.

What change do you see that indicates improvement? Where did I say we need to win a title every year?

I will say this, every year that our path to Final Four has KSt and Loyola in our way, we should get to the Final Four. If not, we failed.

I will IF you show me one post where I said I want Cal fired. I'll be waiting. Some of you guys seem to think just because some of us have criticism of Cal and the OAD, we all want Call fired. Most of us just want him to change a bit.

If you get out in the real world and talk to fans that have been here for 20 years and longer, you will find apathy for the OAD. Lots of fans get tired of trying to learn a new team every year, and suffer thru a season where they look, disjointed, uninspired, lethargic, and playing ****** schedules because our coach don't want them to get down on themselves when they get beat, meanwhile struggling to beat D2 schools by single digits, losing at home, etc. A combination of all things does make some not as enthused as they once were.

Absolutely. This board is not a representation of the BBN. Whether I agree or not is irrelevant, loads of fans are sick of it and have been for a long time. I know many people who didn't like it when it was producing, they just held their nose.
