I’ve offered my two cents on the matter already. And I think the comparisons that have been made to Stevens are off base. The Costello and Stevens situations are incredibly different. There are plenty of facts that back that up. But hey, if someone would prefer to just roll with Shrader then that’s their opinion.
But then we get to you. Your comment of “he would be here today if he was truly interested” is one thousand percent based on your own biased speculation. We hired Leach on January 9th, and the last day to enroll in classes for the Spring was January 13th. Based on your comments, your expectation of the situation was we should’ve had our grad transfer QB signed sealed and delivered within 3 days of Leach being hired (even though we didn’t have any staff yet, mind you), and since we couldn’t meet that deadline there’s no point in pursuing this further.
I get wanting someone to be here for the Spring, and we all undoubtedly wish they could be, but that’s not realistic in this scenario. We hired Leach after the semester had already started, he had basically zero time to work with. But I don’t think being here in the Spring is a requirement for being a good QB here, and to assume him not being here yet is a sign that he doesn’t want to come here is really a stretch.
So yes, I consider what you said to be ignorant.
Well, other than still name calling, you at least made some valid points.
But there are questions.
First, I didn’t say he should be enrolled today, I referred to him being here for a two sided interview., today. Why wait until the 24th or even the 31st?
So, the questions:
1) when did Costello announce his intentions to transfer and enter the portal? How long has he been searching for a landing spot?
2) what is he seeking a Graduate Degree in and which schools have that program If Stanford doesn’t have it?
3) is he strictly transferring to play QB for a particularly Coach or Offensive philosophy?
4) was he considering Washington State when Leach was the coach there?
5) was MSU a possible destination before Moorhead was fired?
6) Is there a school where he can be a late enrollee in a graduate program?
7) wouldn’t Leach want to be able to evaluate his current roster of QBs with the transferee so that he can get a full spring of work, system input, and evaluation, rather than coming out of Spring with QB1 possibly NOT even on campus? This is not like a true freshman coming in June and going thru fall practice and beating guys out. This is a one year guy coming in with a short window to develop relationships, timing, trust, Understanding the nuances of this version of the Offense, among other things, including tangible general acceptance.
We have 3 QBs that were rated 4 star by at least one recruiting publication, that were passed over for a transfer last year, and the perception was there was instability in the clubhouse.
If another transfer QB is demonstrably better than what we have, let him prove it in the Spring, not the week before the 1st game.
Tell this guy and any other possible transfer showing interest in MSU to prove their interest and get here this week and talk, walk and look.
