Yes, dont tell anyone MD but I really want:John?
Boy. These random pop up accounts are something else.I only care if he’s vaccinated. We will never get to the Final Four unless we stay up to date on our shots.
If Cal redshirts him at all, we wouldn't have to wait until next summer to be fervently pissed off about it.This shouldn’t be an issue, unless Cal makes it an issue. Just play him like you would any other Freshman. Cal never redshirts healthy Freshmen who enroll in the Fall. Why start with this guy? It’s not like he is going to play four years. Play him a few minutes a game, maybe more in blow outs and let him get his feet wet. If he is good enough to play more then play him more.
If Cal redshirts him and then he decides to go to the draft, then Cal deserves the criticism he is going to get for letting something like this happen again.
As I have said, “Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me.” No excuses for Cal if another Sharpe situation happens. In my book, the first time you get a pass, but you better learn from your mistakes.
There’s no way Cal does that. No way. Not unless he wants to be fired at the end of the year. Because that’s the kind of crap that would set the fan base ablaze.I don't think this is another Sharpe situation but crazier things have happened.
We're already ablaze. Cal is the equivalent of the cheater spouse who has to completely alter his behavior to even have a chance at redemption, as in 100% behavior modification and not even a hint of retaining the old stigmas. If he redshirts this kid, it makes no sense unless they're A. trying to spare Ware's feelings (which would be a stupid reason to redshirt him) or B. they're hiding him like they did Sharpe. There’s now way Cal does that. There's a bunch who say he'll redshirt. He's going to have to play if he wants to even sniff a draft board. No NBA team is going to draft a lowly ranked freshman who didn't play, and who is extremely raw offensively. He's not Sharpe.
So really, the only issue would be if he plays early, and plays enough.. to show his talents, and then decides to shut it down. But I just don't see that happening.
I mean then entire fan base. Because you’ve got guys like me that while I’m pissed at Cal, I’m pleased with this off season and recruiting for next year. I’m holding reservations on the on court stuff of course. That remains to be seen. We're already ablaze. Those are the only two possible reasons, and if Cal redshirts him, it will show once more than Cal is willing to put the player ahead of the program.
Only if it's against Monkey Pox.I only care if he’s vaccinated. We will never get to the Final Four unless we stay up to date on our shots.
Where are the minutes for him if Oscar is getting 30 and then Ware getting 10? I would like to see him get some run during the OOC cupcake portion to see what he has got but the reality is he is barely going to get any type of minutes unless he shows up and is too good not to play.Redshirting him would just be dumb. He isn’t staying five years. And if it’s to protect Ware, then that’s even worse. Play them both behind Tshiebwe. Let the best player play. Let the other get mop up minutes. Whatever happened to iron sharpens iron? They will get better playing against each other and against Tshiebwe.
Cockburn, Bacot, and Tshiebwe are all throw back type bigs. They aren’t the type of 5 man the league wants. Now Onyenso is an above the rim defensive minded shot blocker/rim protector. That’s closer to what the league wants. They also draft on potential and sadly, the longer you stay in college, the less potential you have in the eyes of the NBA scouts. Why do you think Sharpe refused to play? He didn’t want anyone to know what he could do that way he could be drafted on potential. Let’s hope Onyenso isn’t trying to go that route. I know he is not in the first round conversation right now, but what happens when he gets here, shows out on Pro Day for the scouts, then decides to redshirt? Cal is going to catch a lot of heat and if the kid decides to test the waters, it could get really ugly. If he goes in the draft and gets drafted on potential… you do the math.So were Oscar- NPOY - and Kofi Cockburn - All America - and Armando Bacot and many other centers who either returned to school because they weren't going to be drafted, or if out of options like Kofi did not get drafted.
The idea that Kingsley is going to be a more attractive NBA target than any of those guys next year strikes me as absurd.
But why invite the questions at all? Why not simply play him? You were certain Shape would return last winter as well. Sorry if some of us don't prescribe to your logic, especially when you have no logical answer for why it would be sensible to redshirt Kingsley at all.So were Oscar- NPOY - and Kofi Cockburn - All America - and Armando Bacot and many other centers who either returned to school because they weren't going to be drafted, or if out of options like Kofi did not get drafted.
The idea that Kingsley next year is going to be a more attractive NBA target than any of those guys were this year strikes me as highly unlikely.
That’s why you give him a shot. If he can beat Ware out and get those 10 minutes a game we are a better team. If he doesn’t, then did it hurt to play him a few minutes in mop up play? Nope. It might hurt his draft stock if he struggles when he is out there, but it doesn’t hurt the team. And if he really wants to return, then does it matter about his ‘23 draft stock? Nope. He is coming back anyway. If he doesn’t play, it will only benefit him, it does nothing for the program. He isn’t wasting his eligibility, kids don’t use all their eligibility anymore, not kids like him anyway. Put him out there and see what he can do. What will it hurt?Where are the minutes for him if Oscar is getting 30 and then Ware getting 10? Yes, he will be seeing mop up minutes behind Ware if I had to guess. Ware is ahead of Kingsley on the depth chart as he should be and if Kingsley wants to play substantial minutes then he has to beat out Ware in practice which I could very well see happeningThat’s why you give him a shot.
