Florida's fans wasn't into it very much. They will lose their minds when we come to town, so infatuated with us. Their players will play ten times better against us with their fans losing their minds because we are there. And a ref will join in with them. A lot for us to overcome on every road trip. We are just so adored I reckon.

Blackshear is literally their only player taller than 6'5". UK's length is going to be a huge problem for them.

Him going to Florida did not cost him millions lol. He was a marginal NBA prospect before he got there, and he would have stayed a marginal NBA prospect had he gone to UK. It’s nonsense to think he was about to turn into a first rounder after not even being On the radar.
So you think Cal and Kenny wouldn’t get him into the first round and you also think he'll actually get some run in the NBA regardless of where he went? Is that what you're saying?
I think Cal and Kenny get him into the first round, but it's a guarantee he won't get to the first round through Florida.

Yet several media outlets put him on preseason All-America teams. Just shows how few decent bigs there are this year.

Blackshear will play much better as the season progresses.

Did they get Travis there? Some dudes just aren’t NBA players.

I disagree. I watched him at VT and he plays extremely hard and single handedly manned up against duke, unc and Virginia in the paint. He has skills, he can shoot and he can block shots. Heck, he had 13 rebounds today.
But Cal runs a pro style offense and he has Kenny Payne. Blackshear would have thrived here.

We will just have to agree to disagree. Second time I have seen him with Florida, and both times he has looked like a plodder. Like I said, he will be pretty good, offensively, but he will have to show me more than he has these first two games to convince me he could play defense for Cal.

Cal would not have recruited him as hard as he did if he thought he was not an excellent player. People on this board criticised Nick Richards saying he would never be a good player for UK and now after one good game against EKU he is the best player in the nation.

No i don’t think Calipari gets him into the 1st round. And i say that with complete confidence. He just isn’t that highly regarded by NBA types. Playing for UK may have given him a boost into the middle of 2nd round, but it’s silly to think he was going in the 1st. He just wasnt, regardless of school.

You can lay all the superlatives you want on Calipari, and they’re true, but he had virtually the same prospect last season in Travis, and playing for UK did nothing for his stock. Some guys just aren’t NBA material.

That is this fanbase If you win you are the greatest ever you lose you are the worst ever. This fanbase just reacts to the moment, knee jerk reactions that have no basis in reality instead of looking at the whole picture

He just might do that, but he did that to duke last year, yet he's still in college.
Cal gets him to the NBA.
So hey, congrats on playing close to home, but it probably cost him millions.

Yep. I'm kind of glad he didnt come here. I love what Sestina brings to the table which doesn't always show up on the scoreboard with his leadership and maximum level of charisma. I'm happy with where we're at.

Where did I ever say that NR was the best player in the country? I think that Blackshear is better than NR. I just don't think he is as good as what we all thought he was, and that he will not lead Florida to a Final Four. It is just my opinion, and I could well be wrong. I am not inflexible. I guess we can revisit this in 4 1/2 months.

Probably because Florida runs a system that caters to guards and outside shooting, which, again, proves my point. He chose poorly.

If you think KB and RT are the same player and have the same upside, this conversation is over, you don't understand how this works.
Have a good night.

Adding KB to this team along side Sestina, NR, EJ and Brookes would have made UK elite at all 5 positions.
This isn't an either/or situation, we would have had Sestina AND Blackshear. I see nothing wrong with that.

Did you watch him last year at VT? He's every bit as good as I thought he was. I don't know how I would think any different. He kicked *** in the ACC last year and he was a huge reason why they SHOULD have beat Duke last season in the NCAAT.

Okay Jeff, if KB is such an athletic beast then why was he not on draft boards going into this year? Doesn’t make sense. Like Travis, he wasn’t on draft boards yet because the NBA doesn’t view him as a bigtime NBA prospect.

I never said he was an athletic freak. That's interesting, where did you get that?
What I DID say was that he is far more athletic than Reid Travis is. It's not close. I can see why Travis' game would not work in the pros, but KB needs refining and marketing. That's what UK does.
Buzz Williams never had things like a pro day at Virginia Tech.
99% of the programs in college are about college basketball, UK specializes in putting players in the NBA.
Lastly, Florida is a 3 point shooting team, they don't run their offense through the post like UK does.
There are far more advantages at UK than there are at VT or Florida.

Travis was stronger, more physical and was one of the best we have had at getting in rebounding position. Sestina is a better shooter and plays with the similar intensity that Travis played with. Sestina is very active and great at communicating with teammates. Better than what I thought he would be. Love his intensity!

Know what you mean. Intense on their calls. Guarantee three of their players will play like all stars against us. Because, it's us. They will play twice as hard as they normally do and their fans will hype them up even more. Won't see all those empty seats.

Will need all three of our bigs playing well by then because one or two of them will be targeted for fouls. Fortunate to have three guards that can guard because their guards is their strength.

I've never understood why Mike White keeps being referred to as a "great coach". The guy has literally underachieved every year except 3 years ago. I thought they'd be really good last year because of 2017. Instead they went backwards with more talent.

As strange as it sounds at first blush, I suspect UK may force Blackshear into having a good game.

I'm thinking Florida will do its thing of trying to find any crack from which to fling a 3-pt. shot. When UK's defense suffocates that, Florida will first panic and then - quite by accident - have to pass to Blackshear, who is actually tough to handle on the block. Then, surprise! The box score shows Blackshear had good numbers.

I'm not ready to say Nate Sestina is the better transfer. But It's not out of the question, either.

If Richards has turned the corner.. then Sestina is the better for for us. The reason we wanted KB was because of our front court woes.
