To use the phrase in one of the Indian Jones movies, temple of doom I think:

Kerry Blackshear, "you chose poorly".

Going to Florida over UK was a really bad decision if the NBA was his goal. He could have stayed at Va Tech if he wanted to be a garbage collector the rest of his life. Oh well.

Why any big with a low post game would go to Florida is beyond me. They run a guard oriented offense. Now Kerry will be forced to primarily score off of 2nd chance rebound points. They went to him a few times towards the end when the game was already out of reach. That’s not the 6th best team in college basketball, and certainly not the 2nd best team in the SEC.

There’s a reason why NBA scouts weren’t too intrigued by him. Now we see why. He was never the #1 scoring option at VT. He can’t be “that guy”. It’s still early, but given that he was a preseason all-american, it would appear he was over-hyped.

I think you’re right on point. Only, I think you’re going a little easy on Mike White (maybe it’s a little bias because you share the same first name:)) by kindly calling his system a guard oriented offense. I think his system is a straight up old Vanderbilt-style 3-pt. hunting offense - meaning the entire offense is built around hunting the 3-pt. shot. This is not to be confused with an offense that simply takes good 3-pt. shots when available (i.e., open looks taken by at least decent shooters who are squared up with feet set and ready to shoot with some confidence) in the flow of an offense. This is the kind of one-dimensional gambling offense you might implement when your team is obviously inferior to your peers.

Some good Samaritan should have reminded Blackshear that Florida is now where good Big Men go to die from having no role on the offensive side of the ball (or just talk to Kevarrius Hayes, Isaiah Stokes or Keith Stone).

I think he chose wisely. He will look ok at Florida, but he would have stuck out like a sore thumb, under Cal. He doesn't play much defense and he is slow. He may have had a tough time at UK.

The kid is averaging 15 pts and 11.5 boards a game. He had 10 and 13 tonight. You all act like he is averaging 2 and 1 a game.
He went 0-5 from the field and played 36 minutes. Florida State made him look inadequate. He made some free throws to get his 10 points.
13 rebounds is a heck of a good number, but he wanted to be the man in the middle. Well, he has that, but he needs to be better.

It's easy to poke fun until he puts up 25 and 12 on us in the Swamp going 3 for 4 from deep.
Blackshear is certainly capable of that, but in Mike White's offense I think you would have to be right that he made 3 of 4 3-pt. shots and then garnered 6 offensive rebounds for put backs (allowing for an old-fashioned 3-pt. play on a few of the put backs).

He will be fine on the offensive end, but he is not very good, defensively. We will be down the floor and will have already put up a shot, by the time he gets back on defense.

I disagree. I watched him at VT and he plays extremely hard and single handedly manned up against duke, unc and Virginia in the paint. He has skills, he can shoot and he can block shots. Heck, he had 13 rebounds today.
But Cal runs a pro style offense and he has Kenny Payne. Blackshear would have thrived here.

He just might do that, but he did that to duke last year, yet he's still in college.
Cal gets him to the NBA.
So hey, congrats on playing close to home, but it probably cost him millions.

Him going to Florida did not cost him millions lol. He was a marginal NBA prospect before he got there, and he would have stayed a marginal NBA prospect had he gone to UK. It’s nonsense to think he was about to turn into a first rounder after not even being On the radar.
