Nooooo. Not at all.
There are nuances to the game that.......never mind.

Go Big Blue.
Look we all know Cal sucks and sucks bad. But when you pass it to the third row, that’s not all on Cal. That was on DjJ making a bad play.

Shep missing a layup isn’t on Cal in that instance. That was on Reed having a brain fart or losing control.

Dilly has been awful so far tonight.

3/4 of the guards sucked *** for most of that first half.

Yes lineups matter. But individual performances do to. DJ throwing that into the third row had little to nothing to do with line ups. It was a god awful brainless pass.

I'm sure LSU has, like, their entire football team here, a mayor, country music star, Elmo, you name it. I'd love to see Kentucky slam the door on them in the second half.

Cal needs to figure out what he's going to do with Bradshaw and DJ.

You either bring them off the bench and we look better because of it. Or keep forcing them into the game for draft reasons and run the risk of an early exit.

Feels like it's going to be the latter. I'm actually at the point where I'm glad to see them struggling because it forces the notion that these two guys should be coming off the bench.
Easy talking about Wagner should be coming off the bench. bbncal02 will tell you it doesn’t matter, get over it, and move on

Agree, it’s also very clear to tell Wagner isn’t 100 percent and it’s affecting him. Reed is the better PG but Wagner is playing through pain
Wagner is a one trick pony, drive left and hope it goes in. His jumper rarely goes in. He’s turned up his defensive intensity but the ball dies with him offensively. Teams have the scouting report on him now and it becomes harder to go left every single time.
But it’s not his fault the way he’s being used. I’d love to have him back next year but we all know that’s a joke.

Reeves 44% from 3 and Reed 51%. Why do those two not get 10-12 3pt shots each per game?
You think it's easy to just scheme up 24 open 3s for two players each game? And one of the reason Reed shoots 51% is because he picks his spots.

DJ does a lot of dribble but never seems to make progress. Dilly has to calm down but unfortunately we all knew early on he is who he is. Some games great some not so much.

Before he was out in the Florida game he was playing well and hitting some jumpers, but now it’s easy to tell he is favoring that ankle when going up on shots

We shouldn't undermine DJ's defense, guys.

He has been our best perimeter defender, by a large margin, since he came back from injury.

That is 50% of the game after all.

Shep/DJ/Reeves is a good perimeter to me, especially since Rob's offense is lacking right now.

I don't disagree. But he can still be effective doing that off the bench. If he can't play the point effectively (and I haven't seen anything to say that he's trustworthy night and and night out to play the #1).. then how can we start him or give him starter minutes? Can't play him at the 2 and keep Reeves or Dilly on the bench.

That wasn't bad at the end for offense. Should help a bit.

I think I'd rather see UK be 20th/40th.. than say 5/100. I feel like that's more stable and should get UK into the 2nd weekend.

The balance is important but we also need to remember the overall goal should be to get the offense to the highest number possible and the defense to the lowest number possible. The difference is the efficiency margin (and essentially line of the game).

UK is sitting at 19.52. Get that in the 22s and 23s we are hovering in the top 10 in Kenpom and possibly considered to be a contender at that point.

Edwards was solid in the first half though
Where would this team be if Z was given the same latitude for screw ups that Edwards gets. Z would be ready for tough March play and the team would benefit from his size, passing, and shooting. So, Edwards has a solid half, whatever that means, after having countless halves of screw ups. He is a huge liability.

More Reeves, Reed, less Dillingham, Wagner
Dillingham is normally not this bad. Wonder if Cal is screwing with his confidence with his substitutions in some recent games? Like the other game we didn't see him for like the last 10 minutes of the game or something.

I just wish we could play our best 5 all together for a significant stretch of time at some point this season. We basically never do this… constantly subbing guys in and out.

Sheppard
Reeves
Dillingham
Theiro
Onyenso

I’d love to see a stat for how many total minutes this lineup has played together this season.

DePaul must be like the worst team in a big conference in college ball this year. They are down 30 at half to Marquette

Yes.

Edwards with one three. Nothing else.

DJ - I don’t think he did anything statistically.
Edwards had 2 3s that half and the awkward looking assist on the Reeves 3.

2 key plays there at the end of the half taking us from down 1 to up 9.

Dillingham was awful at everything post staring down the backup white big…

Sure, but I do think those are hard to do simultaneously. I don't think it's a coincidence that when our defense has gotten better, our offense slipped.

We also clearly have players who are better at defense. And others who are better at offense.

Dillingham is very inconsistent offensively and gives you nothing at all on defense.

Hold the fort early. They just might get hot again. Bury them late when their legs are gone.

Most years our halfcourt offense looks like crap. That's on the coach. All we do is have like 3 guys standing around while a 4th sets a half a$$ pick so the 5th can try and drive recklessly. We should be setting multiple picks all over the place and causing mismatches and getting open shots from our shooters. It's the same problem that causes us to struggle with getting good looks at the end of halves most every game.
So well said. I think some of it is a personnel issue. What happened to Welch?

Wagner is being Wagner. He played the same way against Auburn. However, we won so some said he played great. It seems that the outcome of the game determines Wagner's grade. The truth is Wagner has been a major disappointment and he continues to one.
Wagner’s D was very good against Auburn at least. He fought hard over screens and was a big reason they didn’t get many open looks from 3. Agree, his offense has not been the same since the ankle roll, but still gotta give him credit.

Lately we can absolutely keep Dilly on the bench- he has had some BAD spurts- including the 1st half tonight.

Let's see, but he has not been great the last few games.

He'll be fine come March, but hitting a freshman wall right now that he's climbing over.
