Long player with great energy. He bounces all over the floor and makes plays. I have high expectations for him next year.

I honestly wonder if Brooks isn't ranked lower than he should be is because no one is certain what he is. I think his best role is as a stretch 4, but many experts seem to think he's a 3. I just don't know if he has the handles or lateral quickness to play and defend on the perimeter, but if he can bulk up, he could become a really nice 4 imo.

Extremely excited to see him play here. The fact we stole him from Indiana just amps me up even more. They desperately needed him as well.

I’m interested to see how he fits on this team and what role he carves out for himself. He’s certainly unique in the fact that it’s hard to say what position he really is. Can’t wait to find out!

He plays with an attitude for sure, I like that.

Watching him in the High School championship tournament, he had moments of greatness, and moments that were bad with poor passes and poor decision making. He is very good but I don't know if he is a game changer at this stage. I know, not saying how he or anyone else that is coming are the most awesome fantastic recruits upsets some. He needs to really work on his shooting and when to take the shot. What he might bring, I hope, is someone willing to mix it up a bit in the paint.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.

I think his best college position will be as a small ball 4.

He'll either start at the 4 or backup Montgomery at that spot next season.

I think our best lineup could be: Hagans, Maxey, Whitney, Brooks, and Montgomery.

Saw him play several times and your assessment is spot on. One minute he dominates the game with great energy and the next he is getting stripped of the ball. Can shoot it better than he's given credit for but his handles and passing is suspect. He can defend, rebound, and run the floor with the best of them. There are times he looks top 10 and times top 40. The highs and lows is where he gets his 20ish ranking. He can bring an instant spark or put you in a quick hole with poor decision making. He needs a year but he will no doubt create some buzz when he's the n the floor.

That’s definitely the lineup with the most potential. I think those guys have the highest ceilings on the team. By season’s end we may see that lineup a lot.

THis is a spot on assessment...Brooks has alot of talent but he also makes a bunch of negative plays (Can be a TO machine, has really poor handles/passing IMO).

I think he's in the mold of Wenyen and Poythress type of PF. Cal will drill into him to be a play finisher and not a play initiator to limit his negative plays. If he plays SF, it won't suit his strengths. He's a stretch-ish 4 the entire way IMO and will pay behind EJ IMO.

He seems to be the opposite of the disappearing type, and that’s something I value highly in a player we’ll have for about six months.

Keion Brooks not being a McDonald’s All-American is a crime. Guy should’ve been a top 15 player but injuries dropped him like most everyone else not named Harry Giles.

In the long run, it's going to help him. It will fuel his fire. He is driven even more to succeed because of this snub. He has something to prove and a great work effort. Those two things combined usually spell success.

How many of these have we seen? HS BS....rinse and repeat. same ole same ole. I remember when I saw John Wall and thinking there's no chance in hell anyone could beat us for the NC just because of him. And mixed with Boogie? ...no way anyone could beat us or even come close......OOPS..

This is the kid I'm the most excited about.
Agreed, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him getting a good amount of minutes since he can play the 3/4. The other positive is unless he has some monster year he will be here two years. He’s the wildcard, as we don’t know a whole lot about him. We know he’s a good player, but how good is yet to be determined

I think Brooks is a tweener. He can play the 3 or the 4 at the next level. I think he’ll see time here as the 3 and the 4.

As far as starting, I doubt it. At least initially.

Two scenarios:

1. We get Blackshear. Blackshear and EJ start.

2. We don’t get Blckshear. I think Cal wants Nick to figure it out—at 6’11 he’s probably our only real Center. I think he’ll hype him and give him some extra leash early on. If he doesnt figure it out—maybe EJ slides over and we look at Brooks/Sestina starting.

I think Brooks off the bench makes a ton of sense though. He can back up Whitney or EJ. Thatms great versatility off the bench.

Brooks and Whitney both are tweeners but I hope hagans and Maxey can play make enough to hide it

He's Poythress 2.0. 6'8 tweener forward whos not quite a 4 but isnt polished enough to be a 3 but does a lot of things well but no one thing great. And that's a great player to have as they're kind of a jack of all trades who you can use in a multitude of ways. One night, poythress is a freshman dunking on Duke players lookin like a top 10 pick and the next he's playing 32 minutes scoring 5 points, grabbing 3 rebounds and committing 4 turnovers.

They may look alike but watching tape Brooks seems to be way more into his play while Alex was so laid back sometimes. I’m hoping Brooks is better because of that.

From what I have read, his motor is way better than Poythress' motor.

Poythress was a physically gifted kid, but he lacked that "fire" or "drive" that would have made him a superstar.

Some people just aren't wired that way.

But I think Brooks is.

It will be interesting to see Keion"s measurements at UK's pro day. U18 trials he measured at 6'6.5 (in shoes) with a 6'9 wingspan. He didn't get tested on standing reach or vertical. I think he's going to have a pretty good standing reach though. He seems to be longer vertically with a "high shoulder" build.
The measurements are a year old.

His overall length and athleticism will tell us a little more about the positions he can play and guard. He's going to need an 8'7 or higher standing reach to play significant minutes at the 4.

Also, very interested in seeing Sestina's true height/wingspan/reach. I watched a few videos of him playing UNC and he looked about the same size as Luke Maye but significantly shorter than 6'10 Sterling Manley. I am guessing he measures at 6'7. I don't think his wingspan and standing reach will be very good.

I wouldn't be surprised if we add another big - but also wouldn't be surprised if we don't. Cal saying "are you ready to play 30 minutes a night" in reference to EJ returning makes me think EJ will be playing as much as possible at the 4 or 5.

Another interesting measurement from the U18 trials was Maxey's 37.5 inch vertical.

Alex was like that in high school too. I remember him on the AAU circuit tearing up top ranked teams single handedly.

Yeah I saw him play too, I thought he would be better then Mashburn but I never saw an attitude with his game.
