When is the last time anything good happened for our men's basketball program? Seriously. Nothing but frustration for years.

I was fired up coming off recruiting in November...

We've definitely lost the off-season this year though.

Blame Omhar Carter, the common denominator (handler) in Kegler and Malik Newman. He is the picture in the dictionary beside the definition of AAU Pimp. I guarantee he is involved. I've known him for the last 10 yrs and he is a slug in it for only the $$$.

Holman is a better 4 anyway. I think Herard improves and with Ado, Holman gets to play more stretch 4, so we are better there. Losing Brooks really hurt though.

Kegler had THE WORST basketball IQ of any "good" player I've ever seen. I know he had a high ceiling, but all he did was hang around the arc and jack up threes. And despite his desire to be a guard, he couldn't dribble. Best of luck, Mario.

One thing that has been a little surprising to me is how little Howland seems to be "letting the numbers work themselves out". That was one thing Stans was always fantastic at. We would lose good players -- but we were constantly picking up difference-makers on "the waiver wire" as well.

Of course that may be a function of him completely turning over a roster with FR and SO -- and something we start to really see going forward.

I think we need to sign 4 in this class now. Anyone disagree? We'll be at 11 today if this is the end of the attrition...

Even if Kegler is/was overrated, this and the Brooks fiasco are a big deal. We have less than a full roster for the umpteenth year in a row, and this is before any possible injuries.

The silver lining is another spot for the 2018 class, but how much longer are we going to keep doing this whole "wait till next year" thing? I expect us to be improved but I would be floored if we are an NCAA tournament team. We still have next to nothing in the post. Holman got abused in SEC play, Herard is super raw, and I'm not as confident about Ado being the answer as some appear to be. He averaged 7 points a game in high school.

Howland has won Signing Day since he's been here but I think it's fair to say everything else has been a disappointment to this point. We knew it would take time to rebuild but I feel like we have missed some opportunities to go get a JUCO or grad transfer and help speed up the process a little bit.

Good. I won't have to see him try to dribble the ball down the court.

I saw very little that made me think he was anything but a "me" player.

Kind of Reminds me of Romero Osby, he ended with a pretty good career at Oklahoma.

Kegler is nothing like Osby. Osby worked his *** off and wasn't unwilling to do the dirty work. Kegler thinks he's Lebron minus all the basketball talent.

Grad Transfer.
1 year player with experience to add depth so it wont affect recruiting for '18.

Kegler averaged 28mpg, 9.7ppg, 5.5rpg, shot 42% overall, shot 34% from behind the arc, had 1.2apg, and 1.9to/g

Thats an interesting mix of good and bad to replace. Its a lot of minutes to replace, its a health amount of points to replace, and its for sure a lot of rebounds to replace. But his shooting % overall and from isnt impressive, so hopefully the collective replacement will shoot more effectively. Heck, Stapleton has similar shooting%s to Kegler. He also turned the ball over 2x/game even though he wasnt the primary ball handler or even the secondary so the collective replacement taking care of the ball better shouldnt be tough.

Overall from a freshman, he was good for us.
Kegler was 2nd in rebounding, and almost led the team per game. Thats a big loss. And in spite of how much he loved to launch from deep, his overall fg% was higher than Carter's and Peters' %s.
He clearly didnt understand constant hustle, struggled with proper spacing, and was inconsistent with knowing what a good shot is- but he was a freshman who played a lot and was relied on to be a serious contributor so his weaknesses were amplified for us to see more often.
I think he would have developed into a better player with experience.

So how is he replaced?
- give Stapleton his minutes?
- Slide Holman out from the basket more often and have a stretch 4 who has a good shot but cant make much from the outside?
- Ado better be a solid rebounder.
- more minutes for Wright and Carter and we just play smaller?

Osby played hard but thought he was a three when Stans thought he was a four. He went to Oklahoma to play three and ironicly the coach was fired and the new guy wanted him a at four. He actually wanted to transfer back but Bracky didn't think he could so he stayed and thrived as a four once he accepted the position. For further irony, the NCAA then allowed the Ole Miss player to transfer back under exactly the same circumstances.

Someone tweeted out how many players are transferring in CBB and the number that are still available is astounding. Howland needs to get someone on the phone.

The thing that made Stansbury's handling of Osby so indefensible is how he handled Kodi Augustus. I'm a big fan of Stansbury and think the good outweighed the bad even if it was time for him to move on, but his handling of Osby always seemed terrible. Whatever he acted like in practice, he played hard in games when not everybody we had did.

Eh I only want grad transfers that can play immediately. Get us two of those Howland. One a PF that weighs more than a mop and won't fumble the ball every time he touches it. The other a 3 point supastarr

I think it was 600+ transferring with 200+ still trying to find out where.
