I didn't see Callahan or Riley happening. One could have been good, but he was just too attached to his friend. The other was a story a 5 year old could predict, but did in fact fire his friend to try and improve.

Hmm now that I typed that out and knowing the history of Nebraska's brass picking coaches, this sounds like a disaster brewing.

I have a much better feeling about our AD now. I think Trev will get the best guy we can get. If it isn’t one of the widely coveted guys it won’t be because he didn’t try or because some booster wanted his golf buddy.

From the accounts, Riley was forced to fire Banker, who had actually fielded a good defense during the season. Top 40 D. Diaco was hired and shoehorned the roster into a 3-4. Those with eyes saw the results. Riley may have been fired as a result of a decision he was goaded into making.

If he has to go to that conference to find a coach, he shouldn’t be hired.

That is not what I am getting at... there are many job interviews at that conference from mamy programs. While he is there he can meet with many people at one time since everyone is there. What better way to see very many people at one time.

Banker may have been the best thing about that staff. The defense improved markedly from year 1 to 2. Next year the Davis twins were set to work at DT with Stoltenberg in a 4-3. Instead NU changed to a D that didn’t fit them.

that's too late.. he has to have a permanent staff figured out, or close to it by the early Dec signing period
