Kansas predicting first 40-0 team

All those wins vs Ted Owens in the 70s sure are relevant to today.

More relevant would be that KU leads in the modern era. Despite having to play three games against UK's two best rosters ever (with two of KU's weakest rosters in recent memory).
So you’re saying the Ted Owens coached Kansas teams in the 70’s do not warrant recognition? You’re claiming those Kentucky wins are irrelevant in historical significance yet Dr. James Naismith, Phog Allen’s accomplishments are historically significant? They’re all in the PAST. Kansas fans love to cherry pick eras to fit their narrative. You also make a habit of making excuses for getting your arse beat by Kentucky, (two of KU’s weakest rosters, ran out of time) etc....

Here’s the deal; Kansas has a nice program and it’s because of their HISTORY. Those Ted Owens teams are part of your HISTORY. You can’t pretend they didn’t exist. So take the first 16 of 17 arse whoopin’s you received from the Univeristy of Kentucky and accept it. Furthermore, due to the overwhelming advantage Kentucky has over Kansas (71% wins) 8 titles to 3, most overall wins in college basketball history, this isn’t even considered a rivalry. You need to get past the likes of North Carolina, Duke, Indiana, before you even get a seat at the table next to UK. This is a fact. Understand it and govern yourself accordingly.

Like these that you donated for second place in 2012?

Is this a serious post? Calipari has one title and has literally had twice as many NBA players and superstar recruits.

How many years has he been at UK? Self at KU? What does the rest of Cal’s tourney record look like at UK? Self’s? Cal has outclassed Self in the tourney in a fraction of the time. That is a fact that cannot be argued.

I really don't see the appeal in Kansas. Bill Self always fields a competitive team, but people calling this Kansas team the #2 team in the country...I just don't see it.
I've thought the same thing. They lost Graham who was pretty much the catalyst and best player. I don't see it as well.

Piggy backing on that. Cal also recruits for himself. Doesn't need Adidas or Andy Miller.

Ah, I think KU is going to be a really good team this year. Outside shooting, which is typically their strength, will be a bit of a question mark. Same with Duke. So it'll be interesting to see how both coaches adjust.
I'm not going to take anything away from Bill Self, I think he's a top 10 coach and he has a stacked roster this year, so any win over KU will be a dogfight no matter where it's played.

At least Cal knows how to beat Wichita State and avoid early flame outs in the Tournament. Title argument is irrelevant when he has no more than Cal and was lucky there was a missed free throw or Cal would be having 2 about right now. Self has coached in a major conference school since 2001 while Cal hasn't even been here a full 10 years yet. That's too bad if your coach given how long he's been at Kansas and can't bring in the number of studs Cal can at a school like Kentucky.

2 of your weakest teams? The one that got to the National Title? That doesn't say much about your coach then if his stronger teams aren't getting there for him. I don't think having 5 star recruits would make that big of a difference under Self if the weaker teams go further.

Ahhh, the old "midmajor" argument. Love that one. As if he wasn't getting excellent talent at Memphis. [roll]

Glad you loved it because you still haven't countered the points in my post without deflection. Again, doesn't say much about your coach why can't get as many studs at two power conference programs and Bruce Weber had to be the one to get that Illinois team to the Championship game.

As you well know, the best team rarely wins the title. And quit acting like we have 25 year old men playing against college players. Our NBA guys are raw as hell. The supposed GOAT hasn't had much success molding a new team every year. I'm taking K. Self always has a perfect balance of talented experience like Graham and mason to go with highly ranked recruits and continually flames out. When Cal has that combination you see years like 2012 and 2015. We're going to be closer to those teams than the teams of pretty much all freshman.

And for the record, we have double the final fours during the Cal era than any other team. By far the most tournament wins, while missing tournament one of those years.

No, you see years like 12 and 15 when he has experience and ridiculous talent.

Self always has the perfect balance of talent and experience? Hilarious. This year and 2008 might be the only rosters you could say that about.

Last year they had zero depth and one good big. Everyone labeled it his worst team til they made a final four run. The year before they had a few good guards but ZERO inside game. Every year some of his best talent is injured or sidelined before the tourney and he rarely has an ideal roster. When was the last time Calipari lost a talent like Embiid?

Self wins a ton of games every year and often overachieves in the regular season, which sometimes leads to disappointment in the tourney. Calipari only succeeds on a high level when he has such an insane amount of talent that he can "platoon" or when he has such a massive talent advantage over every team he faces in the tourney (2012) that he couldn't possibly blow it. And yet if KU hadn't missed a million chip shots, he would have.

See, the thing is that everyone rewrites history throughout the course of the season. They forget the low or modest expectations they had for Self's team and pile on and ridicule him for getting a one seed and losing in the elite 8. Forgetting that their expectation was a 3 seed and Sweet 16.

And it's the opposite with Calipari. Everyone forgets that they printed 40-0 shirts when he reaches the final four after stumbling in as an 8 seed. Or makes excuses about youth after expecting big things before the year. No doubt youth will conveniently be an excuse if they don't meet expectation next year, despite all the preseason noise about having amazing talent combined with experience.

Let's get serious for a second. Do you believe that Nike isn't involved in the same game as Adidas?

My theory: Nike is in the lead. Adidas is trying to keep up. If your winning the race, you don't have to take a short cut to try to get ahead.

Absolutely with DOOK where anything goes. Not following the rest of Nike schools close enough to get a feel but I wouldn't doubt it a bit.

I don't believe Cal is dirty though and not just being a homer for the Cats. The relationship of Kentucky & Cal to the NCAA, he'd been on the electric chair by now if he looks at someone from the NCAA cross eyed. The media has done their damnedest to bury him too but he embraces it. That's the best trait of Cal is his ability to handle the pressure cooker of this job. Duke is Nike's baby and there has already been links reported about Duke, Bagley & Nike in the past.

I don't know how I missed this thread. When I read the title, I instantly thought of the Jailhawks going 40-0 in a Longest Yard type scenario against their prison guards.

You guys really need to drop this "NCAA and ref anti-Kentucky conspiracy" schtick. It's absurd. The NCAA makes 90% of its profit from March Madness. You can bet they're not on a mission to take down the program with the largest and most rabid fanbase. Same with Calipari himself. Calipari =ratings and dollar signs. They have no problem taking down a program like Memphis or Umass (after he jets, I might add), but they will never touch Kentucky if they can help it.

Also, both Calipari and Kentucky are media darlings. Not sure how that can even be disputed.

Explain Bagley and Duke. If you think it isn't a prevalent problem where shoe companies are paying the top recruits, at a minimum, then you are really in denial. But I'm not going to get into that debate.

I stopped reading at "when was the last time Calipari lost a talent like Embiid?" You have to be out of your freaking mind man.
When is the last time KU lost talents like Anthony Davis, Cousins, Wall, Randle, Towns or Fox? Are you kidding me?
Calipari has to reload every year, he doesn't get multiple players to stay through their senior years and if he did, he would own cbb.
He gets knocked on because he doesn't win the title every year with "all those NBA all stars" when the truth is he has freshmen oriented teams every year. I'd like to see Self try it. He wouldn't be winning squat if he did.

Embiid, you are a jackass.

Adidas got caught because they were trying hard to keep up with Nike.

Nike has yet to get busted like Adidas.

Either Nike is clean or smart enough not to get caught.

You are probably right, but usually when some one gets caught, they use the "everybody else is doing it" excuse.

I spit my beer out over UK & Cal being media "darlings." The marketability of UK makes them money but that's a far cry from being someone's "darling." How many hit pieces do you see out there on Bill Self? That's right, NONE! He takes them all out to Hooters and befriends them while he gets a pass for the slime ball that he is. I love when fans get their rocks off to calling out others over blaming refs or NCAA biased.

NCAA really loves Cal so much that they cleared Derrick Rose twice. Later found him ineligible, couldn't prove who took the ACT if it wasn't Rose NCAA claims strict liability in the case. NCAA Committee on Infractions get *** hurt over a 500 win celebration. Overlooking very important matters at other Universities that were going on that they knew about that we're just now finding out today.

NCAA President Mark Emmert and his cronies f*** Cal, UK & Enes Kanter ruling him ineligible at UK but know damn well Emmert would've pulled some strings to get him in at Washington, his alma-mater & where he was school President. We see a professional from Turkey play at West Virginia. They allowed Omer Yurtseven to play for NC State after a 9 game suspension and paying back $1,000 he made playing for Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Enes Kanter had the ability to do so but was never afforded the opportunity. Of course we always feel the love on Selection Sunday. Yeah if the NCAA really cared, having Kanter eligible would have been $$$$ for the NCAA that year.

Feeling loved? lol :flush: My suggestion to you if we're so much beneath you all would be to take your holier than thou *** back to the Kansas Boards if such a thing exists.
