Kakert stating to Nwampa that they were able to keep Pavia in check made me chuckle...if 347 yards is keeping a QB in check than I guess 330 yards is shutting a QB down. For the record though, I'm beyond elated that we beat Vanderbilt.
Super conservative but got beat over the top on numerous occasions? It looked to me that we went super conservative on defense.
We did awesome in the 1st half.
I was proud of the offense today.

This game from the defense looked a lot like the second half vs USC.It looked to me that we went super conservative on defense.

Four sacks the first half and Vandy had 8 yards rushing. Pass rushers looked athleticThis game from the defense looked a lot like the second half vs USC.
The front four simply couldn't get any pressure and the linebackers couldn't cover.
The only difference was the offense produced points.
It really was another second half collapse and mystifying why PP didn't blitz as much?
That said...Iowa's front seven aren't terribly athletic.
And the defense this year was dreadful creating turnovers.
The 2nd half against USC is exactly what it reminded me of too, but maybe worse. It wasn’t a matter of if they were going to score, but how quickly. This game from the defense looked a lot like the second half vs USC.

That ain't good.
Yeah, I did think it was a possibility. Can you people ever be happy? Please tell us what kind of Iowa win would do it!
Vandy came in here mad they weren’t in the playoff, they expected to blow out the Hawks.
Iowa early on drove at will on Vandy D, should have been 21-3 if not for dropping td pass. they couldn’t stop the offense, and they knew it. That’s why they had to open up in the 2nd half just to try keeping up.
Did anyone here really believe Vandy would come back and win once the 4 quarter started?
That was part of the concern, how quickly we were letting them score.I don't have the stats in front of me, but this defense gave up some really fast scoring drives and some huge pass plays this season.
If I remember the pbp guys on TV, I thought they said Vandy had three touchdown drives of less than three minutes.
I guess if you want to paint something positive to that, Vandy's defense didn't get much rest before having to go back on the field.

I didn't like Nwampa's hips in the very first All America game I saw him in, and he still is average at best in pass coverage. I think he can play in the NFL on a team that has a spot for a hybrid LB/Safety, but he's not an NFL safety. It looked to me that we went super conservative on defense.
We did awesome in the 1st half.

Needs to ditch the union card on D. Running Harrel and Montgomery out there all season cost us. They just aren’t B10 caliber.Iowa offense won this game. Defense hasn't been the same for a few seasons now. Just too much turnover. Holes in all 3 levels this year. Lacked star power or difference makers.
The D will be green next year but I think there is potential for more star power next season with guys like Entringer, Lutmer, Buffington, Epenesa, and maybe a few guys like Godfrey and Watson.
On Offense Iowa has plenty of potential studs. I just hope lack of a QB doesn't bring it all down.
Hall might be one of the most bi-polar players I’ve ever seen at Iowa. Looks great for a few games and then absolutely awful for a game. Our d-backs are not great. Hopefully will get at least one starter level in portal. Sorry to offend, but Hall is f’en horrible.
There were at least three blatant holds that were not called on Vanderbuilt.4 sacks first half, zero 2nd half and I don't remember one holding call on Vandy in the 2nd half. What does everyone think the Vandy Oline coach told his team? My guess is keep them off our QB, I don't care if you get called for holding. Vandy had at least 9 penalties accepted by Iowa, it could have easily been over a dozen.

Yeah, he's good, I just don't think he totally lived up to the hype though. Very good player still and will be missed.I don't disagree. I still am glad he became a Hawk and wish he was playing in this spot the last 3 years.
And they had a tackle move early a couple of times that wasn’t called. There were at least three blatant holds that were not called on Vanderbuilt.
Which was exactly the point I was trying to make. The Iowa offense stepped up and ran clock and kept scoring, making a comeback unlikely. Also, the Vandy coach going for on 4th and 3, didn’t hurt us either.Yeah, I did think it was a possibility.
All they needed was to get one stop on our Offense to get back into the game at the end.
Knowing that we needed to match them TD for TD in the 4th was not exactly comfortable/ sure win kind of stuff.
I’m always happy with any win.
But, I certainly would have preferred that after we scored the first TD of the second half, we would have put the game away.
Instead, we gave up a bomb for a TD(very unlike our D). And the way their O dominated our D in the 2nd half was cause for concern.
Thankfully, the Offense took their turn saving the day!
I read in the game thread he had a weak arm lolThere’s a reason the guy was the Heisman trophy runner up. In the first half you could tell he had a lot of arm talent but was getting rushed. In the second half we didn’t get as much pressure and they also decided to go deep a lot where his arm talent was able to shine. He put some perfect throws right on the money that not a lot of college QBs can do. The defense played well, not amazing, but well.
MG outrushed Pavia. Remember Pavia was the big tough runnerKakert stating to Nwampa that they were able to keep Pavia in check made me chuckle...if 347 yards is keeping a QB in check than I guess 330 yards is shutting a QB down. For the record though, I'm beyond elated that we beat Vanderbilt.
Yep. I counted at least 3 where it was obvious as the defender had gotten past the O Lineman. Those are easy calls. There were at least three blatant holds that were not called on Vanderbuilt.
You act surprised by Kakert here.Kakert stating to Nwampa that they were able to keep Pavia in check made me chuckle.
Yep. The right tackle pulled up early on several plays. And they had a tackle move early a couple of times that wasn’t called.
I don’t know how that gets missed. It’s a rather large man moving before the rest of the line.Yep. The right tackle pulled up early on several plays.
The bone headed punter has got to be the strangest thing I have seen. I think it was right after a sack and it was like 4th and 20+. He took off like he was going for the marker and there was no way he was going to get there. And then he pulled up and kicked and I thought WTF was that? clearly over the line of scrimmage. We scored on the next play on the wig& pen. They had a lot of offsides penalties too. Total lack of discipline.I don’t know how that gets missed. It’s a rather large man moving before the rest of the line.
Looked pretty obvious to me.
