He just needs a few shots to fall....I'm afraid hes gonna he the next Baker, Matthew's, Poole...
I said the same to a friend the other day. If he isnt hitting shots Cal just isnt gonna play him. Was a defensive possession or 2 today i also saw him get blown by so i hope that isnt indicative of his defense as a whole.

Why was it assumed that Juzang was ready to reclassify? Ranked in the mid-30s in 2020, what made everyone think he’d be able to join 2019 and excel?

Did you people compete in sports here? Do you understand how important that extra last year of development is? The kid should still be in HS.

Yeah, right now he’s on track to be the next Jemarl Baker - a reputed pure shooter, even described by some as the best shooter in his class, who ends up being one of the team’s worst in-game shooters and rides the pine.

It’s not going to get easier for him next year either, with Askew, Clarke, and Boston coming in, and Dontaie Allen fully healed. This team desperately needs a wing scorer, so Johnny needs to grow up quickly to make his mark.

Which is why I said if we can keep him around

Wasn't Baker injured all the way thru halfway thru his second year? Was ranked in the 70s not sure how thru five games we could compare him to Baker! His length alone sets him ahead of baker. He is a freshman and one who wasn't as highly ranked playing just like a guy who was recruited like a guy who is multi year guy is supposed to. If he was playing like a Herro or SGA he would end up a one and done. Those guys are the exception not the rule on freshman ranked in that area

I totally agree with you. I think you can become a good player but it’s gonna take a little more time for him as opposed to someone like Quickley

Well who's fault is that? Certainly not the fans fault that he decided to reclassify without being ready. Lol and what does any of us playing sports have to do with it?

Cal ruins “shooters”
It's the offense he runs . Seems we don't get many good looks coming in the flow of our offense . It's not just this year either. Booker and Herro should have gotten 20 shots a game .

Gonna be the guy that’s damn good but just can’t crack the rotation , and while supposedly great defenders continue to get beat off the dribble JUzang is going to be the guy to get labeled “ poor defender “

He's the odd man out, for now. He will find himself and place on the floor. I don't believe he is another 3 point shooter that can't hit threes in games. The shots will begin to fall. He also has the size, abilities and intelligence to do more that just shoot. He just needs to let it come to him.

Because I don’t think you truly understand the difference between and 18 yr old and a 21 year old. Light years in terms of strength and development and confidence. There are exceptions like mega talents: Bagley, and Kat, and Clarke, but a guy ranked in the 30s, without and elite skill.....why reclassify? And I certainly wouldn’t count on that kind of guy year 1.

We have never worked the ball inside out much which is the most comfortable way for a shooter to make shots because their already squared & seeing the basket. Harder to do that side to side & against zones that's all we do is toss it around the perimeter.

I honestly think JJ can be a Klay T. type player some day in the NBA, but it’s very obvious he needs to be patient and show humility in the process. But that’s hard to do in the era we’re in.

It's going to come down to whether Cal lets him play. For one reason or another.. maybe that he's not seen as a 1AD, maybe his defense isn't great.. a guy like Juzang just doesn't get a lot of play. The sooner he gets going, the better the spacing will be for the team. And that can only happen with more minutes.

Got blasted last year when I said I would take a veteran Baker over a reclass freshman. I do like Juzang and I'll be pulling for him every game. But, in my opinion, we consistently need those seasoned role players. I just feel like those guys are so valuable and for some reason, we just cant seem to keep the ones recruited for it. That part of UK culture needs to change. I really think Cal is addressing it but its difficult to change the mindset of kids who think unrealistically. That's the issue, not Cal. Kids think they're a pro as soon as they get that UK offer. It's just unrealistic.

Yeah but Baker was injured like for two years that would affect anybody’s shot.

The only things these players develop in high school basketball is bad habits. Juzang will be fine as long as he is patient and doesn’t listen to outside influences. He always seems to be having a good time while playing and from the bench cheering on teammates so that’s a good sign.

He’s smooth out there. It’s going to come for him. He’s not a 1 dimensional player. Can score in a variety of ways. Cal praised him for putting in extra work. Good sign he wants it
