This stings, especially due to what he was showing at the end, maybe he knows quick and hagans are back and he will be buried behind Allen and the new wings. I think cal needs to get a gritty tough New York 3 star guard over the crap from out in Cali from now on unless they are elite. They just leave and go back home right before being able to shine.

If Quickley comes back OR we get the Hardy transfer then this won’t bother me. I mean it sucks he didn’t want to wait his turn but it is what it is.

If neither of those things happen then this becomes really frustrating and makes no sense.

Damn, really wanted him to stay. He would've been a good one. He'll excel wherever he goes.

Do we pick up Hardy or Aiken for sure now?
Not if IQ comes back . IQ comes back we solid . Juzang is leaving as he wouldn't of played much , I mean he would played some but we are going to have the best SG and SF in all of HS coming in and that doesn't even put into account IQ .

We have a cultural problem at UK. Too many guys transferring out if they aren't instant stars and others leaving too soon HOPING to get drafted. We have very little continuity and I pity the poor next coach that comes in here with what will surely be a bare roster. This is why we never have any depth. Guys like Juzang don't want to stick around and develop so they leave and we get very little out of them in their 1-2 years. I guess we should all embrace the OAD and hope we get the superstars otherwise we will get very little from the non-stars and they move on anyway.

I had a bad feeling about a month ago this was going to happen. I expressed my thoughts in a thread and was given hell and called a troll.
I explained that I hoped he didn’t but felt like he was the type of guy who comes to KY plays a year and realizes that he doesn’t fit this system. Can’t switch all five positions on defense so he can’t stay on the floor. I mentioned Wiltjer, and Baker as examples.
He wouldn’t have started next and the incoming players would’ve moved ahead of him just like Whitney and Maxey started over Quickley until Cal just couldn’t leave Whitney on the floor.
This is why it’s hard to get a “shooter” to come here.

LOL he ain't starting over Clarke nor is he starting over Boston or IQ ( who you gotta believe is coming back with this news) . I understand this move especially if IQ is coming back.
Yeah, but why go to USC or Gonzaga and sit out a year? He won't be able to play next year with the immediate transfer rule getting pushed back.

Hate this. His experience and shooting would have been really big for this team.i feel I’m like he always hustled and loved having him on the floor even though his defense was not great at times. I was confident he would shore that up in year 2.

You realize every program loses 1.7 kids a year to transfers ( last time it was reported that was the number it could be up). UK loses less than that or around that as well. If we have problem everyone does. I think every single SEC team has had 1 transfer so far in the past 2 weeks. Hell Miss St has 5. If you really think there is a cultural problem you are so far behind the reality of cbb I don't know what to tell you.

I'll file this under "stupid decisions"

Even w/ Quickley back....we're running a 3 guard rotation next year. He'd be the 6 man and possibly start if one of the freshman are a bust.

Not to bash a kid...because Johnny was a hard worker and had a great attitude, but this screams "I want 30 shots a game" at another school. This new immediate eligibility rule is what's driving it...

Whitney quit and I thought Johnny saw how staying the course was beneficial..he saw Quickley rise from a bench player to SEC POY as a sophomore.

I don't get it..

Terrence Jones says hi
What a roller-coaster ride that was...

-Commits to Washington
-Changes mind
-Commits to UK
-Starts out at an all-American pace
-Falls apart as conference play hits
-Meltdown "F'n Selfish" game at Alabama
-Redeems himself down the stretch
-Returns even though he was a 1st rounder
-Gets in a wreck and runs from the scene
-Proves to be a consistent force and we win a title

When a player quits on us after a year (or heck, during the year) I couldn't be happier that they got it out of the way and are gone. Good luck, JJ.

Really disappointing. He found his own down the stretch.

It's hard for a kid to wait his turn. They think they're coming to KY to be one and done. Juzang had to come off the bench. Next year with Clarke and Boston--he'd come off the bench again. He can go to somewhere out West and be the focus of the team.

I have no ill feelings toward JJ. However, if a player is not going to be a one and done, I would like to see guys who want to play for KENTUCKY, whether it be 2,3 or 4 years. I do not begrudge a player if he has the opportunity to make millions after 1 year. Cal has done a good job of getting guys into the pros that weren’t expecting to be there: Jorts, Liggins, and Miller for example. These were 3 and 4 year guys. There’s no better coach or school for preparing them for the pros even if it takes a couple extra years. Look at Booker and Herro, nobody expected them to be pros this early.

With Quickley returning, we’d have Allen, Askew, Boston, Clarke, and Fletcher competing for time at the 1, 2, and 3. Brooks would be in the mix at the 3 as well. Quickley is a SEC POTY so we would need to find 3 more good players out of that mix of 7 to fill out a 4 man perimeter rotation. If 1 ends up as a star level player, we’d have an outstanding opportunity next year.

Juzang couldn’t play Cal’s defense so he struggled to stay on the floor. That isn’t going to change next year. Like it or not that’s why guys like him leave or don’t come here.

Tells me he's also worried about Allen.....:cool2:

I doubt he is worried about a guy who has injuries and has not played a single minute. He is worried about Boston, Clarke and maybe even IQ. Pretty simple really, he is not confident in his ability to beat out other guys for playing time, or he is not confident Cal is confident in his ability to earn time. Transfers are not a KY problem, they are a NCAA problem. Look at how many are in the portal, and only 1 UK guy. hell all mighty Duke has 3. Harvard has 2. Is there a problem at Duke ? No, just like there is not one at UK.

And people need to save the Baker story,as he pretty much left a position as a reserve for UK to be a reserve at Arizona. These kids now days if they do not get to be a starter, rather than work and improve and take the starter job, they pick up their ball and go else where.

I agree. He didn't look like a guy that even wanted to be coached. Often he had that "whatever" look on his face when Cal was coaching him.

ONLY reason I could see this happening is if he already knows quick or hagans is coming back and that he would be fighting Clark and askew For minutes... as much as he broke out at the end of the year he should know he was in for a much bigger role next year unless one of the above two were coming back.
