More power to Cal and his kids expressing their views peacefully and demonstrating the power of democracy.
Would you prefer they do it the MAGA way and beat a cop over the head with the flag and attack the Capitol to express their views? Would you rather they burn down a police station BLM style to express their views?
Nobody has the power to control how people display patriotism in our democracy, nor should we. If you don't like kneeling, don't kneel. It's not communism....it's democracy.
Move to North Korea, Russia or China if you feel that strongly about enforcing patriotic flag observance. Maybe you'd prefer it there where you don't have a choice.
I would prefer they did not disrespect the national anthem or flag and that was my original point. I chose not to watch because of that. Most who are opposed to that would rather watch a game and not be disrespected by the team prior to it. What they do in their off time is their business but, during game time they should respect us as much as we do them. Nobody has the power to tell me I can't call them on what I see as disrespectful either.

I think using the military as an excuse to silence black players from voicing opinion is more disrespectful to the flag than burning it. And don’t give me this nonsense about it being ok for them to speak up off the court. You’re lying. You want players with no opinion or who reflect your opinion.

Never said that. People don't have to like the kneeling and are perfectly free to say so as well as assert why they feel it is disrespectful to the flag. That is their first amendment right.
My only complaint was calling them "Communist" for displaying their first amendment freedoms in a way that some don't like.
That's fine....express your displeasure but imo it just crosses the line when labeling teenagers as "Communists" for kneeling. To me, it is actually more "Communist" or "Nazi" to try and tell people how to display patriotism....but I'm not calling people that just because I disagree with them on this issue.

That is a really good way to explain how I see this team.. I hope Cal is as uncomfortable as most if not all the fan base. If I were in his position I would be ashamed to put this team on the floor

It's not the team that's so bad. It also is not the assistant coaches. Neither are the fans causing this disaster. Those are the things Calipari would like us to believe.

Why do so many on this board have such a dramatic problem with black folks expressing themselves? Honestly. I sincerely don't get it. It's almost, and I know this can't be true, that this board is filled with racists that exemplify the stereotypes of the south. And don't give me the disrespecting the flag nonsense, because that doesn't make any sense and most of these same support Trump who called dead vets losers, mocked a war hero and called our generals war mongers.
You are a joke. We are racists because we feel people could protest after the game or before the National Anthem that millions have died for. Take your CNN talking points and hang out with your Democratic Facist friends and your President with dementia.

If someone tells you why they are doing something and that it has nothing to do with disrespecting anything, that they just want to raise awareness for something and they 100% support the thing you are trying to say they are disrespecting and that is known and has been explained 1000 times. Then they do it and you still think it’s disrespectful, then not only are you incompetent but it also makes you look pretty ignorant.

If they had decided to raise awareness by kneeling while the UF band was playing the UF Fight Song....what type of response would that have received? EXACTLY. Because every "moran" out there knows the timing was done so as to disrespect UF. I am CERTAIN a technical foul would have been assessed to start the game. So you and I both know the reason for the timing being what it is. As we have all learned....no matter how many 1000 times it is explained as a sign of respect....it doesnt matter what the name Redskins says to its fans...it is how the "offended" see/receive the name or logo. So if you would try to be honest...it should equally matter how the patriotic among us SEE the kneeling rather than how it was intended.

How many of you find yourself in a deep dark part of your gut....find yourself in a situation like today, hoping we lose. Ever since the Kneel I basically stop caring about the team...and now watching this stihshow continue there is this little voice in my head pulling for us to lose. I cannot believe its come to that but just between us boys....I bet I am not the only one. The players aside from Allen are not likable at all and Cal.....oh boy I really want him to go. So if we can all keep a secret does anyone feel like I do. It must really get worse before it can get better. Spare me the "I'm blue till I die and will never give up ont them." Whatever. Then enjoy this rolling train wreck that will not improve as long as the current regime is in charge.
There is plenty to dislike and hate about the team. The kneeling and BLM aspect of it should register 0% in mind though. I understand there are a lot of older white guys on this board who don’t fundamentally understand what those issues are even about, but citing those as reasons for dislike is wrong in my book.

Like I said, plenty of other stuff to hate about this team. Primarily the coach.

I did not call them communist however, that is not uncommon for people on both sides to do. My point was it was not useful or wanted in the sports arena in general as will probably be supported by mods when they move this thread to the paddocks because of its content now as they have done in the past. Political nor religious themes are allowed on these boards in the sports forums which by the way should be the way they approach it on the floor/field.

Many, many people in this country feel that way. Look at the NFL and NBA having to back off because of dwindling viewership.

Everyone understands the issues. Stop the condescending nonsense. The issue is that they represent the University of Kentucky and everything its basketball team means to its fans young and old. They chose the timing to be the national anthem. There is a clear reason for that....and most of us do not like that happening when and how they did it. Stay in the effing locker room if you hate the Anthem. But when you wear KY on the front of your jersey you are on the clock. Protest on your own time and I will fight for your right to do so. That flag and that anthem represent a lot of folks who died for their luxury beliefs and free education as they bide time to get the hell out of KY if the NBA calls.

You literally just proved my point that you don’t understand the issue. You even said “if you hate the anthem...”. Do you think they knelt because they hate the anthem and hate and disrespect those in the military? Honest question.

I don’t ask that or make these comments to be condescending or argumentative, but I genuinely ask to challenge you to view it differently, because based on your response you objectively do not get it.

You can rationalize all you wish. Is "Braves" or "Indians" a derogatory term? Come on man. It doesnt matter if we explain 1000 times (your excuse) our embracing of a term....it matters only how the offended receive it or in your wokeness how you've been told to receive it. Do some research on the term and I don't mean researching on The View. So if you take it as a derogatory term than that is how you've been conditioned to receive it. 1000x explained should then make the "intent" outweigh your outrage. No?

You don't get to tell others what they find offensive. Kneeling during the anthem is offensive to people, period. If the argument was about yelling the n word during the anthem you people wouldn't bat an eye about why it bothers people and argue otherwise. Millions of Americans have said kneeling is offensive and all you clowns can do is argue that they should put up with it. Get the hell out of here with that commie nonsense. We will not bend or waver on this.

No one even said that black people kneeling is why their angry about it. Many kneeled of all races. This is not a race thing.

I respectively disagree. All the kneeling about police brutality was a race thing IMO. I've always been bothered that it seems to be protesting the country as a whole for some.

I'd argue there are varying degrees. It wasn't meant to be derogatory per se, but I think most agree using terms like that just isn't how we do business in the 21st century. Cleveland Indians...no, not offensive. That whole thing is lunacy. Redskins, eh, its not incendiary, its in that gray area. Its the same as what I said above. If most Indian nations are speaking out saying they don't like that nickname and that it bothers them, then thats good enough for me. Same for me as the flag kneeling....difference here is people supporting the kneeling are telling others they should be OK with it. OK. Go to the closest reservation and tell them they should be OK with being called Redskins. It isn't meant to be offensive, so it's all good right?

If you are a snowflake I can assume being called anything can be offensive. I suggested that you research the term. That is how they described themselves. I do not get offended when being called white although it is used as a derogatory term today by the woke. White Skin Privilege for example. Don't use "white" then because you are using that to be offensive. eyeroll

Its always been a race thing and they've tried to use the guise of police brutality to mask that because if you argue against it then you must be a monster who supports police beating up folks and an outright racist!! Which is obviously complete nonsense. Same for the call for unity...while using outright racism and divisiveness to push their agenda.

Most of us Joe Blows do want unity and to get along. Calling out the hypocrisy doesn't make people hateful or racists. Theyve gone about this whole thing the wrong way and try to use twisted logic to obfuscate the truth.

False. Your post is disrespectful in its self. Most of these older white guys on this board lived through the 60's and 70's and understand more than these kids of today and so do their parents. These kids have not seen racism and disrespect compared to that time and to assume we older white guys do not understand is ridiculous. Better read another book.

They know that many feel it is disrespectful and that in its self is like spitting in the face of those who want them to succeed. No one here wants them to fail or be unjustly treated and by no means are they. These kids actually have it very good. Most of which has come to light these days has been misrepresented and over played for political reasons. But to the point, no one is saying these kids can't protest, the timing of it does not sit well with many and to those of you on here saying people are using the military to shut black people up, how ignorant are you? This not a black thing or a military thing. You question our supposed inability to understand what this is all about yet spout this crap which really is way off base.
