also in no way is TP the only one to blame..the entire lot of them..bog, lawyers and Barchi needed to go. I could give a **** about merger...he didnt watch the video..but TP also needed to demand that he watch it

You’d think by now you’d realize that our lack of money dictates a lot of the decisions at RU. “Fire everyone” sounds great until the bill arrives.
"No, no ... Schiano will be fired by Monday. We should spend all weekend discussing his replacement!!!" <--- 90% of this board every Saturday night this season.

Pernetti wanted to fire him (a decision I disagree with, btw). Barchi said you can do whatever you want, but you can't have any more money (in other words, "You can't fire him.") It's laughable to believe Pernetti could tell the president of the university what to do.

The only mistake Pernetti made was not realizing faster that he was being made the fall guy.

And I'm pretty sure the university's legal council told him that he couldn't fire Rice.

Schianego obscures reality. Flood had no support. Flood had an unqualified AD actively trying to fire him from day one. Flood had to deal with a three ring circus of the pall cast over Rutgers with the Rice fiasco and multiple Julie flare ups. Not the best environment for success. Greg has been served silver, gold and platinum platters of resources over his 18 years, and has little to show for it in the 2.0 era.

I wouldn't say it was a gold, silver or platnum platter in the 1.0 era. 2.0 is a different story.

I'm fairly certain they told him they couldn't fire him for cause. Which means he could fire him, but the school wouldn't recover any of his salary. Which means he could fire him, but he couldn't pay a new coach. Which means Rice could be replaced, but only by someone who was already on the staff and part of all of the practices that ESPN were attacking Rice for on television.

Surviving years under the unqualified AD is one big win.
Beat an SEC team twice.-how many SEC teams has Greg defeated in 18 years?
Beat Michigan-when has Greg done that?
Had Rutgers ranked for 7 straight weeks.
Defeated a 10-3 Cincinnati

Beating sub 500 big name schools having rotten season..whoop dee damn do

Not a Greg fan but he beat Louisville who was ranked where?

Elmer blew a lead against a one leg qb

Greg is 100x the man and example for young man than pnc bank Floyd could ever be

He still did something Greg did not- won a share of a conference championship! (blah, blah, blah-with Greg's players.)---but with no boneheaded, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory play calls, and with infinitely less resources than Greg has been gifted. It's not about being related or a super fan---it is FACTS.
Fact, Flood wasn't HC material using Schiano as a comparison is setting the bar low.
Kyle wound up being an embarrassment to the program and that's a fact as well.

To be fair, that 2012 team should have done a lot more. They were rolling at 7-0 (3-0) and were ranked #18 in late October. From there they lost 4 of 6 to finish that year:
  • 6 turnovers in a Homecoming loss to Kent State
  • 3 touchdown road loss to a bad Pitt team
  • Blew a 2 (should have been 3) TD lead at home in the de facto Big East Championship game to Louisville
  • Lost in what was one of the ugliest bowl performances I've ever seen to a 6-6 Virginia Tech team
Completely wasted that season.
Sounds a little like the way the 2006 regular season player out .

It’s a ****** situation. He 100% should be fired based on performance - but we’re in debt that keeps growing, they’re making cuts to academics and other things, and the buyout is nearly 30 million so the optics/media shitstorm will be terrible.

Or thinking anyone at RU had any media savvy. It would have blown over in a week and the school totally overreacted.

Pointing to one win (checks watch) 2 decades ago! isn’t a winning argument.

And flood was well liked and did a lot for the school outside of football - Greg only cares about football.

I don’t know if Flood would have been successful or not (reiterating this - because you seem to struggle to understand it), but I don’t think he ever really had much of a chance.

he was a disaster his 2nd year after his first year freefall to end the season..that was before Julie was getting angry emails from rutgers fans

he was not keeping up with his recruits...he was labelled lazy..keep defending that and giving him a pass

Greg got us into the Big east..what did floyd do for rutgers...well liked by who? the players?..hahaha remember the credit card incident with the players

Former Rutgers head football coach Kyle Flood was not described by the NCAA or university investigations as "lazy," but rather as taking a casual approach to program oversight and rules compliance. [1, 2]
His tenure (2012–2015) ended amidst administrative scrutiny, disciplinary issues, and official sanctions: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Academic Interference: Flood was suspended for three games and fined $50,000 in 2015 after improperly contacting a faculty member to help adjust a player's (Nadir Barnwell) academic standing. [1, 2]
  • NCAA Infractions: The NCAA handed Rutgers two years of probation and Flood a one-year show-cause order. The committee cited a failure to monitor the program, a casual approach to rules, unreported drug tests, and unmonitored recruiting activities. [1, 2]
  • Player Conduct & Dismissals: Multiple players faced criminal arrests (ranging from assault to home invasions), leading to several high-profile dismissals. [1, 2, 3]
  • On-Field Record: Flood finished his Rutgers career with a 27–24 overall record (4–8 in his final 2015 season) before being fired on November 29, 2015. [1, 2]

Floods gigs at bama and Texas have probably made him feel more fulfilled about his career than being a HC at RU ever could. He was never going to get the support and fan following here than at those two elite programs and the difference in talent is pharaonic!

Honestly, GS 2.0 wasn’t all bad. I really thought we were going to turn the corner after we beat Miami in the pinstripe bowl. The problem was that we made one too many turns and became a full 180.

And you don't think that Keli Zinn has been on the phones raising money to offset those costs?

Unlike prior ADs, she understands what has to be done and how it needs to be done.

Definitely. Im not mad. I think he did a nice job getting us some respect and we’re light years ahead of where we were when he started. He’s just never gonna be able to out coach anyone in the B1G.
